Okay guys I need some help real quick to make sure this list is okay. My buddy is a power player and we are going head to head for a campaign at games workshop. he runs a Farsight unit so 1 battle suit for like two or three squads to lock down points and a few squads with meltas or flamethrowers. or the Farsight bomb even a mini bomb. I know tau crack tanks like paper but this seems the safest list with out trying to focus just killing tau.

Spoiler:
HQ/warlord.
Comp command squad wrath of Cadia (for fun fluff.) and 4 up armor
Chimera
lascannon

Troops
Vets Chimera
x2 plasma
Vets Chimera
auto cannon
x2 melta
Vets Taurox (its all I have left or it would be another Chimera)
x2 plasma
Montka Battle group command hq Chimera
lascannon

my plan is to use the Comands to order ignore cover on the las cannon and pick off his units while my vets charge in and smash a focused flank while doing my my objective cards tell me to do.
Montka battle group HQ is legal from my local games workshop guy and gives me three dice to role plus 24 inch order range.

Story behind my fear.
Spoiler:
So last week at the store he thought he was up against me and as we sat at the restaurant he made a list. like the ass I am I waited until he was done with his list then informed him he was fighting another friend who used orks and I was fighting a player using nids. he shrugged it off talking about all comer lists. when we got to the store and while I started my game I noticed he was not playing and "Making a list because he forgot" well he tabled the orks and then watched me play and liked my current list at the time had a tank commander in it. aside from power gaming he is a very smart player and a great guy but I want to make sure my all comer list will hold out against him. this could also be paranoia.. lol but who knows.

IG is good at low point matches. Many possible strategies, can spam tanks/infantery/Chimeras/artillery.

First - does the torney have any special rules, such as "no D weapons" or "no Forgeworld"? Secondly - what type of goals will they have? Take objectives, random or something else?

It seems that you have 2 HQ, 2 Chimeravets and 1 Tauroxvet.

My recommendation 1: Drop 1 HQ for a Wyvern! Kills hordes, kills stealth units and is always useful. Not to mention very cheap.

My recommendation 2: Pimp the remaining HQ with a lascannon, 2xplasma and a MoO/astropath (psychic scream against Tau should be interesting). Keep it stationary as a firebase (giving order to itself) while the 2 Chimeravets captures objectives or mobile forces. Park the Wyvern close to the HQ.

Such a list isn't tailored, fairly general and possible to expand.

No D weapons and no forge world and Maelstrom of War with the cards doing what the cars say. (sorry played last in 4th edition so I am learning a lot) both HQ had lascannons for "fire on my target" (ignore cover) but I do have a Wyvren and that sounds like a very good idea for swarms. I have a huge army but no astropaths or a MMO yet and I think its a "what you see is what you get" campaign. So no proxy units.

Thank you Superkuf I never thought to throw a wyvren in the list.
