I been eyeing rangers for a long time. Sure their head size on the plastics is a little intrusive, but nonetheless it has been drawing to me.

I see a few routes for a Rangers list:

-Grey Company
Can get 100% Rangers, obvious choice.

-Ithilien/Non-Ithilien
Must take WoMT, which is okay but not preferred.

-Black Root Vale
Must take other Fiefdoms, though I thought about converting some ranger models to represent Lamedon units to make it seem Rangers. However Fiefdoms are mediocre compared to the other options due to a lack of spear-armed archers and the like. They can take banners on their archers though!

Does anyone have experience with doing Ranger-heavy/pure lists and would know how best to approach them?

There is also the Arnor list. Rangers and Warriors of Arnor, plus some good Heroes (including Aragorn) and Rangers of the North.

AFAIK, the list doesn't require you to take WoMT but I don't have my book in front of me. Would the Osgiliath Veterans be a more acceptable choice to supplement the Ithilien Rangers?

However Fiefdoms are mediocre compared to the other options due to a lack of spear-armed archers and the like.

Remember, there is nothing preventing you from including a warband of Rangers of the North (with spears) along with one or more Feifdoms warbands. Remember you can mix any "Good" lists together, subject only to the Warband rules. The RotN would be fluffy "allies" for either Minas Tirith or the Feifdoms.

Yeah, I skipped over Arnor and went straight for Grey Company haha.

You do not have to take WoMT but I always forget that there are Osgiliath Veterans as well. Tactically, OVs are a little redundant if the Rangers with spears are F4, there are situations where it isn't but if they are in range of Faramir then they are in range of spear-rangers.

It would be fluffy to ally RotN along with the fiefdoms, not sure if I want to though.

I think I am asking a weird and pointless question because if I really want to go mass-rangers then I just go Grey Company. If I want to supplement with sword+boards then I just take Gondor or Arnor or ally.

I think I'd be going for the Grey Company Route for a pure Ranger list.
