Hi everybody

looking to make Tallarn fun list using models I have and I like. Although it is meant to be fun, I would not like to be tabled on turn 2, so please c&c

HQ

Tank Commander - Command Vanquisher, hull mounted lascannon, multi melta sponsons, heavy stubber, camo netting, dozer blade
190 pts
LR Executioner - hull heavy flamer, camo netting, dozer blade, heavy stubber
180 pts

Primaris Psyker - level 2
75 pts

Troops

1.Veteran Squad - forward sentries, tallarn upgrade (FW), 2 plasma guns, sniper rifle, sarge with plasma pistol
Chimera - multilaser, heavy bolter, heavy stubber, camo netting, dozer blade
Ministorium priest
252 pts

2.Veteran Squad - forward sentries, tallarn upgrade (FW), 2 plasma guns, sniper rifle, sarge with plasma pistol

3.Veteran Squad - forward sentries, tallarn upgrade (FW), 2 plasma guns, sniper rifle, bolter
Chimera - multilaser, heavy bolter, heavy stubber, camo netting, dozer blade
Ministorium priest
252 pts

Fast Attack

Mukaali Rough Riders Squad - Sergeant and 6 riders
145 pts

1. Scout Sentinel with Camo Netting, Multilaser and Searchlight
51 pts

2. Scout Sentinel with Camo Netting, Multilaser and Searchlight
51 pts

Heavy Support

Mawloc (I want to proxy Dune-style sandworm, preferably using Great Maw model from FW Fantasy range)
140 pts

1499 pts

Sort of tactics:
Go for cover, try to grab 3 objectives with vets, burn incoming enemy with plasma. Try to squeeze chimeras also in cover. In case of incoming assault units, sacrifice chimeras and sentinels as speed bumps, otherwise target enemy infantry. I know that plasma pistols are waste of points - however I have old metal tallarns and want WYSIWYG. Vanquisher targets enemy tank, splits fire with executioner - which is kind of all purpose unit. Rough riders are delegated to reserve anti tank duty, maybe they manage to charge something... Sandworm (Mawloc) deep strikes in case of castled enemy, otherwise tries to deep strike TEQ. Primaris joins one of the vet squads and provides rudimentary Deny charges. Still undecided which power to take.

Looks like a fun and varied list, but in all honesty not very competitive. I think the priests in the vet squads are an interesting idea - not seen anyone do that before. Priests are good, but I usually use them in blobs and conscripts.

I'll suggest a few streamlining changes:

Drop camo netting on the sentinels. They are not worth the points investment! Sentinels aren't the best units in themselves, but the camo netting for them is ridiculously over costed. I'd advocate dropping it from the chimeras also - it's generally better just to have more models on the table (which provide additional firepower as well as defense).

Are the heavy stubbers modelled on? Particularly on your command tanks they are a complete waste of points. Very few targets are good for executioners/vanquishers which are good for heavy stubbers.

As you said, plasma pistols on sarges are a terrible idea (I know you're using them as you have the models). Bolters are a lot better - dirt cheap and allows them to contribute to the squad's firepower more.

The saved points could possibly give you another unit of your choice. Regarding the primaris, have you considered using inquisitor coteaz instead? He'd gain you +1 wound, re-roll to seize, 2WC with access to telepathy, 2+ save, a good interceptor rule, some bonus shooting power and a daemon hammer. All for just 25pts more than the primaris. Also a wyvern or earthshaker carriage wouldn't be a bad shout.

Fully Painted Armies: 2200pts Orks 1000pts Space Marines 1200pts Tau 2500pts Blood Angels 3500pts Imperial Guard/Renegades and 1700pts Daemons 450pts Imperial Knights

Thanks for comments!

Priests are only there becouse I would like to convert Harad Abrakhan Guard from LotR range, Harad will be also my source of "Tallarn plastics"

However, basing on your remarks, I decided to
- Remove sentinels altogether. They were there mostly for the sake of models - I was planning to get old OOP FW Tallarn Sentinel on ebay, but it seems it is almost impossible to get nowadays.
- Replace plasma pistols with bolt pistols on vet squads (easy to cut and convert)
- Remove heavy stubber from Vanquisher (want to keep on Executioner as a protection in case of "Weapon Destroyed")

As I messed up points a little above (forgot to add priests) all the above changes put me on 1436, so 64 points free... maybe Hunter-Killer Misisles on Chimeras or maybe one Autocannon sentinel? Or some upgrade on Mawloc? I am not really familiar with Tyranid stuff.

I would love to take Cotaez, however I have utterly no idea for conversion that could fit the Tallarn theme :( Speaking about conversions - I desperately want to convert and field War Mumak of Harad, obviously would need to "count as" something, however, no idea as what should it count. Thinking about modelling artillery platform and lots of heavy bolters on his back and fielding it as Malcador Defender.

Sounds fun! I'd still say a 65pt wyvern would be a good buy If not, could trim some more points for some deep striking melta scions and count them as a camouflaged unit emerging from cover?
