Neophyte undergoing Ritual of Detestation

Greetings all, I've never owned Tau but always flirted with the idea of getting them for my next army and this might be a nice gateway drug but the justification is my GKs always seem to be out ranged and gunned when I bring them out and I have almost no Skyfire or non-melee tank busting options. I've only ever played with a buddy's Tau force, which was back during the gun-line 5e times, which I understand is not the current Meta, but think it might work for my purposes here, please PEACH away.

The list I slapped together is as follows:

GK - NSF

Libby - ML 3

Purifiers w/ Dedicated Rhino
2x Psycannon
3x Sword

Purifiers w/Dedicated Rhino
2x Psycannon
3x Sword

Terminators w/ Dedicated Land Raider
1x Psycannon
3x Sword
1x Justicar w/ Master Crafted Hammer
Land Raider w/ Twin Linked Lascannon + Multi Melta

2x NDK w/ Heavy Psycannon, Incinerator, Greatsword/Fist and Tele

TAU - ALLIED DETACHMENT
1x Commander
-Multi-Spectrum Sensor Suite
-Puretide Engram Neurochip

10x Kroot Carnivores w/Sniper Rounds

3x XV88 Broadside
-Advanced Targeting Systems
-Twin Linked Heavy Rail Rifles
-Twin Linked Smart Missiles

I have had a huge amount of success with the Purifiers using Psycannons on medium to light armor and high toughness units with the option to drop cleansing flames for mook control, but I'm not sure if I'll need them, the Termies with another Psycannon, the Multimelta on the LR and both NDKs with Psycannons since I'm bringing the Tau detatchment specifically for long range STR 8, AP 1, Twin Linked shots. The plan is to have the Tau Commander attach to the Broadsides so they get Ignores Cover from the Sensor Suite and alternate between Monster Hunter and Tank Hunters from Puretide Chip. I'm not sure what (if any) weapons to drop on him since he'll be mostly used for granting Ignores Cover and detaching to charge and melee anything that gets close to protect the Broadsides. The Broadsides are also each packing Precise shot (although I could dump this for Skyfire if I needed it), again, to make sure I have some STR 8 AP 1 instadeath for MEQ special weapons or attached HQ units.

I went Kroot rather than Fire Warrior for the 10 shots of Sniping to pick off special weapon units or targets of interest, but I end up losing access to marker lights for the Broadsides to use. Broadsides get 3 shots, at AP 1 and are twin-linked, so I'm not too concerned about it, but I don't have a lot of playtime with Tau to know.

As it stands I've got another 26 points to either gear up the Commander with weapons, a pair of markerlight drones, or upgrade the Terminators with Halberds.

I did a Gk tau allies list once was very good, I used the Tau to supplement where the Gk fell down.

id take down the Land raider and either deepstrike them or place them in a storm raven - more guns and better speed once on table.

regarding the kroot I always find 1 hound helps wonders and there only 5 pts being able to reroll the side you come in on almost guarantees they come in where you want them.

with the points your putting the commander with the Broadsides so no need for weapons as he will lose the use of the MSSS however 2x flamers would work well for the 2D3 wall of death if they get charged, if you can find 9 pts somewhere (landraider for stormraven frees up a few) you can ad a tetra which will be more than enough marker lights as you wont need to remove cover (MSSS) this would give you an almost constant 2+ twin linked. tetras are also Fast so can be good for late game obj capping.

Careful I have CDO it’s like OCD but in alphabetical order LIKE IT SHOULD BE!!!!!!

Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

I want to preface this with this is meant as constructive criticism. I'm not trying to be a dick and I'm speaking as a tau player.

I'm sad to say but your Tau detachtment isn't adding anything that you're looking for. And it is not points effecient at all. 10 sniper shots bs3 and 3 s8 ap1 twin linked shots are not going to do much at all. Tau(you'll learn more as you play them) is not generally about one shot guns. Volume of fire is the name of our game.

And a cc tau commander? I've never heard of anything so silly. You never ever want to be in close combat. The goal if anything is to kill things with bs2 overwatch.

What you really want is a y'varha battlesuit. This baby has a sick amount of firepower and mobility(both make it a superior choice in the meta). And maybe even a squad a tetras for marker support. I would say a drone net formation but you seem to want to stick with primarily grey Knights. But that's probably overkill since the I picked the y'varha specifically because it doesn't need marker support. With a s6 ap2 double tap 6" torrent flamer AND a heavy 3 haywire 18" s7 ap3 gun you will slaughter MEQ's or tanks with ease. Then fly away because this thing can move a silly distance.

I would take for a allied detachment a tau sheildline, 12 firewarriors and a cadre fireblade. You can move 6" one the sheildline, re roll missed 1's, and reflect damage. Oh and you get 24 shots at 30" or 36 shots at 15" thanks to your fireblade.
