Greetings all, I've never owned Tau but always flirted with the idea of getting them for my next army and this might be a nice gateway drug but the justification is my GKs always seem to be out ranged and gunned when I bring them out and I have almost no Skyfire or non-melee tank busting options. I've only ever played with a buddy's Tau force, which was back during the gun-line 5e times, which I understand is not the current Meta, but think it might work for my purposes here, please PEACH away.
The list I slapped together is as follows:
GK - NSF
Libby - ML 3
Purifiers w/ Dedicated Rhino
2x Psycannon
3x Sword
Purifiers w/Dedicated Rhino
2x Psycannon
3x Sword
Terminators w/ Dedicated Land Raider
1x Psycannon
3x Sword
1x Justicar w/ Master Crafted Hammer
Land Raider w/ Twin Linked Lascannon + Multi Melta
2x NDK w/ Heavy Psycannon, Incinerator, Greatsword/Fist and Tele
TAU - ALLIED DETACHMENT
1x Commander
-Multi-Spectrum Sensor Suite
-Puretide Engram Neurochip
10x Kroot Carnivores w/Sniper Rounds
3x XV88 Broadside
-Advanced Targeting Systems
-Twin Linked Heavy Rail Rifles
-Twin Linked Smart Missiles
I have had a huge amount of success with the Purifiers using Psycannons on medium to light armor and high toughness units with the option to drop cleansing flames for mook control, but I'm not sure if I'll need them, the Termies with another Psycannon, the Multimelta on the LR and both NDKs with Psycannons since I'm bringing the Tau detatchment specifically for long range STR 8, AP 1, Twin Linked shots. The plan is to have the Tau Commander attach to the Broadsides so they get Ignores Cover from the Sensor Suite and alternate between Monster Hunter and Tank Hunters from Puretide Chip. I'm not sure what (if any) weapons to drop on him since he'll be mostly used for granting Ignores Cover and detaching to charge and melee anything that gets close to protect the Broadsides. The Broadsides are also each packing Precise shot (although I could dump this for Skyfire if I needed it), again, to make sure I have some STR 8 AP 1 instadeath for MEQ special weapons or attached HQ units.
I went Kroot rather than Fire Warrior for the 10 shots of Sniping to pick off special weapon units or targets of interest, but I end up losing access to marker lights for the Broadsides to use. Broadsides get 3 shots, at AP 1 and are twin-linked, so I'm not too concerned about it, but I don't have a lot of playtime with Tau to know.
As it stands I've got another 26 points to either gear up the Commander with weapons, a pair of markerlight drones, or upgrade the Terminators with Halberds.
