All week we’ve been talking about the World of SMOG, and in today's final installment we take a look at The World of SMOG: Rise of Moloch. The second game set in the alternate history of London will pit the Gentlemen of the Unicorn Club against The Cult, a sinister group led by the mysterious Nemesis.




so it looks like this is the new CMON KS, BGG seems reasonably happy with the first one with a rating of 7.1/10 https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/168433/world-smog-her-majestys-service

but that was was more a traditional boardgame than a minis boardgame, with all the excellent sculpts they've got from the SMOG range I hope this one is more minis focused, but not long to wait and see

and from what's been show minis are going to play a bigger part in this one


EDIT: Well the start on this one was delayed (presumably too many other projects still ongoing) but the uptick in facebook postings suggests it will be coming soon

Here are the different main factions from the game: The Cult and its members, The Gentlemen of the Unicorn Club, and the twisted family from the Grotesque Company Circus. The Nemesis will have a lot of help to complete their evil plans, but the Gentlemen are a force to be reckoned with. Only time will tell how this story unfolds.

Is this affiliated to the old SMOG 1888 range of miniatures? A shame that range was discontinued.

CMON bought up the rights from Smartmax as far as I know, so the games are set in that world

(I'd really like to see some of the sculpts come back even if it is in CMON plastic)

Ah, good new then. Re-releases of some of the sculpts would be ideal, their Holmes was a stunning miniature. If they can use some of the same sculptors and move to plastic, that would be excellent.

I have the original Smog 1888 game, the one with the fold open "poster" style play mat.

Was it called The Thirteenth Hour? I don't remember anymore! It was just an excuse to play games with the delightful figures.

The miniatures were amazing (maybe one day I will get around to painting mine), they were nearer to 54mm so presumably they will be smaller this time round, so obviously not as good

Cautiously optimistic about Rise Of Moloch, but it has such big boots to fill, at least in terms of miniature quality.

Really hoping that they don't mess with the aesthetic and go all comic book style like Massive Darkness. That would be perverse.

I backed World of Smog: On Her Majesty's Service on kickstarter and I have to say I love the game. It's pretty unique from the board setup (using actual rotating dials), to the figures to the world itself. Very pulp victorian steam punk with a fantasy twist.

I look forward to seeing where this kickstarter goes.

The figures that they have resculpted from the old range look reasonably good, but I'm really disappointed with the style of the new sculpts.

Technically they are fine, not great but not terrible, but for me they fail to capture the aesthetic old the old smog range.

Also, I'm a bit burnt out on CMON Kickstarters, I already have hundreds of their PVC figures that I will never get around to painting.

Maybe I'll feel differently at some point during the campaign, but at the moment I'll be passing on this.

The SMOG range had some amazing sculpts in it... but I'm not quite sure about some of these. Hopefully they'll have some of the other awesome old ones waiting in the wings (the "Canopic Beast" is one of my all time favorite minis!).

I really want to get those minis, even though I have no interest in the game.. Yet

Looks...OK-ish, but with the TWISTED Pledge Manager closing in January, I think all of my Steampunk Hobby Funds for 2017 are spoken for!

Surprised it's only 16 days. Maybe they wanted to keep it smaller in scope?

It seems like they've moved to shorter campaigns on their B titles. Given the funding curve that these game projects follow I think it makes sense, cut out some of the lull in the middle and keep people more involved.

Reminder set . Not usually into steampunk, but cmon making it means it gets a glance. I wonder if Rising Sun will be soon and that's why they are doing a 16 day goal.

Wait is this in 54mm? Or are you saying they are remaking that line in 28mm for this game? I couldn't see a size on the KS page.

I assume the minis are the same size as all the other CMON boxed games and they're scanning or resculpting the 54mm figures. Most of the stretch goals do seem to be drawn from those existing designs so far.

EDIT: I asked and they're in standard CMON 32mm scale. They said lots of the existing 54mm ones had been digitally sculpted originally so scaling those is easy.

That makes it a bit more tempting, as the TWISTED Pledge Manager is about to close, and the rest of my hobby budget for Q1 is going into that.

Can't link from my phone, but newstretch goal attained and first add on which lookalike a must have for me. Top hat wearing gorilla (2 actually, one is a KS exclusive version of the same model)

No idea about the game, but Wolsung has a character creator and Twisted may have one in the future, so I'm tempted just for the figures!

Heck, you could even use them for Strange Aeons, or even the Rogue Stars ruleset could accommodate them...
