From Wargamer on Tour:

pretty traditional these days for Battlefront to bring a few rapid prototypes of some of the new plastics we can expect to see over the coming months. This time was no exception and we had a few of the new Mid War plastics we can expect to see on shelves in early 2017.

The models are rapid prototypes based on the CAD data that will go to the toolmakers, assembled and then given a quick coat of primer. They are used to make sure that the model will look right and go together correctly. Much easier than staring at 2D printouts of components.

Here's hoping for some plastic infantry to match. Would love some plastic 8th Army and/or Gurkhas.

As an early/mid war Brit player, I'm just as ecstatic as can one be just with the Crusader and Grants. Hopefully the Universal Carriers come fully optioned.

I'm an old 8th Army player (back in v1 and v2 days!) but I already plan to replace all my resin/metal Grant tanks with these beautiful new plastics. I'd gladly do the same with my 8th Army Infantry if they released a plastic set for those.

I see mid war lend/lease Soviet Grants in my future.

I'm kind of surprised by the plastic Universal Carrier since the resin ones are pretty cheap.

Carriers are fairly small in comparison to a tank. I would put them at a minimum of two per sprue versus one tank per sprue.

Possible that it makes all the various modifications like the Wasp as well.

I gotta say, their British plastics for Team Yankee are quality work, went together incredibly smoothly without a giant mess of parts.

I've been waiting for the PSC 15mm Universal Carriers and 88mm Flak for I think over 2 years now - having both been sat on their 'in the pipeline' list, yet as far as I can tell they're vapourware. If Battlefront get these into the shops before PSC then I'm afraid PSC will have missed the boat - I only need so many of each.

Hoping we'll see Valentines in Plastic at some point, but those Flak 88s are magical.

My guess is the infantry. TY metal infantry would seem to indicate that BF has decided metal infantry is not the direction they want to push in.

In the follow up interview with Pete from Battlefront on the WWPD podcast he specifically said no more plastic infantry for the foreseeable future.

He also said that Italians were getting a couple plastic models. The M14/41 tank seems an obvious choice. Not so sure about the other. The AB armored car? The Semovente 75/18 assault gun?

I seem to remember some mention of a plastic Semovente. The M14/41 and Autoblindo AB41 are no-brainers for plastic, in my opinion.

A shame about a lack of plastic infantry, but plastic tanks, etc. are much more viable especially considering how expensive it is to build Italian armies atm.

Makes sense. Plastic models are only cost-effective when you're going to sell a lot of them. And they've already done most of the obvious "mass purchase" infantry choices. Off the top of my head, the only major infantry-type that's still missing and that would probably sell lots in plastic is Soviet SMGs.

Well, Italian infantry are kind of 'mass purchase' but not as to the same degree as the Soviets - as are Romanian infantry.

Indeed, I bought one Brit Mechanised company and some Milans and I'm about done.

There just isn't the need for that much infantry, especially when you have to spam unholy amounts of APC's/Helicopters to cart them about in.

I'd guess we might see a few more metal boxes for specialist troops like Para's or Spec Forces but plastic boxes just don't seem necessary.

I think most of us are talking about FOW, not TY. I know would have loved to see them release MW British 8th Army and MW German DAK infantry in plastic. Oh, well, maybe Plastic Soldier Company will release some plastic infantry for North Africa? I know they already have some sets out for LW Europe.

I hate plastic infantry too fragile and are a bitch if you ever need to rebase them. 28mm is ok, 15mm is too small for me in plastic.

You need to buy lots of infantry to build those armies (since they use battalion-sized infantry lists, like the Soviets). But there aren't that many players. So while your average US player will only be buying a few platoons worth of infantry versus your average Romanian player buying a few companies of infantry, there are a lot more US players than there are Romanian players. So the US stuff can be manufactured in the quantities necessary, while the Romanian and Italian stuff isn't.

They don't even sell the big Romanian infantry box anymore.

Which is a real shame since getting into that army can be a real pain.
