Hello all if you have seen my last post the one asking about the size of an arachnid warrior bug then you will know I've decided to dip my toe into the starship troopers game this will be sort of the working progress both with the miniatures and the battle reports that will follow but before I get ahead of myself I will first tell you what will be happening Christmas time I will be buying some of the books of eBay as well as miniatures for both mobile infantry and arachnids (mainly the elite arachnids) I will have for then proxy toy spiders for now but thanks to Stormonu who very kindly sent a link to some paper craft arachnid warriors I will fingers crossed I'll be using them instead next year will be when more meat will be added to both armies and hopefully when the battle reports start up it'll follow sort of the way my 40k battle reports do where it'll mainly be big point games however the first few will be smaller games just so me and we'll any of my friends can get into the swing of it

Also I forget to ask (same thing I asked on when I asked for the size for the arachnid warrior) what sort of battle reports would you like to see plain battle reports? Or campaigns with back story added to it?

For Starship Troopers, a "Band of Brothers" sort of running campaign report seems like it would be a good fit.

There's someone doing battle reports for All Quiet on the Martain Front on here (can't remember who at the moment) whose battle reports I love to read because of the small bit of story that proceeds them. Most of his battles aren't linked, but the story bits are, and it makes it a bit fun to follow their escapades (of course, the humor also helps too).

Good Luck!

It never ends well

Ah awesome thanks Stormonu I will have to admit the first report will be a small game with us getting used to the rules but will still be posted just to show off the battle report style and other such things but after that each one will have story and also as you suggested sort of a running campaign which will more than likely focus on the mobile infantry commander (which depends on who it and who knows maybe even more than one commander will be joining in ) fingers crossed it'll all be started next year and thank you Stormonu

Are you using the official MI marines? Or different ones? If you're open to the later, I recommend puppetwar's basic stryker models. They've also got variants with the heavier grizzly style armor as well as the jetpacks to go along with those rules.

Sounds like a cool project! SST was reportedly a good game and theres a wealth of alternate minis you can use if you're not too attached to the movie interpretations.

If you're doing battle reports a bit of narrative is always a good thing. This is assuming that it's a nicely written battle report with good pictures. I've got exactly no interest in sitting through video battle reports or written reports with no pics.

Were you already aware of the partial range of SST figures (some slightly modified) that are available from Rebel Miniatures?

EDIT: Just saw your other thread and looks like you're already aware of the Rebel figs. When looking for stand-ins for other minis, you might try posting a picture of what you are trying to build and approximate dimensions. Then folks with a bit more knowledge of obscure mini lines can give you some suggestions for alternate figs that might fit the bill.

Best of luck with this project!

Hello all got sort of an update the spider bugs I bought to use as workers showed up and I'll be honest very unimpressed by them but however they will have to do for now so I will apologise for them looking the way they do (they are also different from the photos to which really annoyed me)

I suspect hornets. Those pics actually look like hornets, with tyranid warrior heads and arms...

Have you heard of mantisflies and scorpionflies?

Pretty obscure though, so you're unlikely to find models. Stormonu's conversion idea sounds like a much safer bet.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

Also to note the reason for the moblie infantry having more points was just because other wise I wouldn't of had much in the way of an army

Your collection is coming along nicely.

Great find on the animated versions - wish they'd finished that series, the animation was a bit rough, but they had a good story going - and skinnies!!!

Yep got about 40-50 moblie infantry just building them platoon at a time for now more than likely going to add some skinnies in and yeah I was pretty lucky some people want stupid money for them and yeah it's a shame :/ I was looking forward to a bug finale when I last watched them and yep also found the campaign with them in the best personally (I apologise haven't seen them in ages) and need to find the roughneck models

Hello all I apologise when it came to my first game it went badly mainly due to the massive body count for the arachnids and their allies, and due to a few rules that I disliked a little (so I've redone one just so the moblie infantry have a bit more of a chance) there will be an update and a series of smaller games all linked together in a campaign style similar to how the roughnecks episodes go

Hello all I've been thinking on the starship trooper miniature game a little (I will admit other projects have taken over) and I thought I would ask the question which has been bugging me would you guys care if I used 2d paper miniatures or the 3d arachnid warriors (that's if I can do it i won't lie I'm shockingly bad with card and paper miniatures) I ultimately want to play the game but the cost of arachnid warriors for example and there being no clear alternatives has kinda got me stumped

Welcome back!

I don't think we have the right to make the call what minis you use. If you're having a hard time getting actual plastic arachnids or something to sub them in, you could try other model lines (for example, GW's hormagaunts or genestealers) and go with the story they've evolved their form to better fight humanity (like we've seen in some of the later trooper movies)

Also this may help with the 2D models (at least, cut down on the work and get you playing faster):

https://tuliushostilius.deviantart.com/art/1204-Starship-Troopers-1-6-528568177

It has one arachnid warrior on it, but you could cut & paste it into some sort of graphics software and quickly make a page of them. Double-sided, lot less work than a full 3-D paper model.

Let me know how it goes - I've got a copy of the box game collecting dust and I need some encouragement to break it out and play it

It never ends well
