Hi all, myself and a fellow blogger are going to attempt to roll out at least one (hopefully more) Blood Bowl article(s) to celebrate the release of the new box set. The article(s) will be on www.midwestwargaming.com.

I'm not currently in any BB leagues so rather than write about the release from my perspective I was hoping I could get some opinions from active BB players:

1.) How do you feel about GW picking up the game again?

I feel like I've heard two sides to this. Some people are negative because they feel it is a horrible maneuver for money grabbing. On the other side, some people are just happy that the game they've invested so much time in is being noticed again.

2.) Will you be buying the new box set? If not, why?

3.) How long have you been playing Blood Bowl?

4.) What do you like most about Blood Bowl and hope GW never changes?

-Thank you to anyone who responds!

My opinion below, may very well differ from the majority however!

1. Whilst I am glad that GW are revisiting the old SGs and I hope they continue support this time rather than just releasing a box a a nostalgia cash-in, personally, I couldn't give a toss about BB's re-release. The game was doing and has been doing just fine all these years without GW's help

2. No. The scale creep really annoys me. It means none of the new models will fit with my existing teams and none of the new models will fit very well on my custom-built pitch.

3. Since circa 1994

4. The rules, I think. I'm glad GW chose not to re-write the rules - I think they are something that contributes to the ongoing appeal of the game.

I really wish they'd make an astrogranite pitch in the current scale and without the big, sliding slope.

@dgwhite87

1. I'm okay with it. I've got the 2nd Edition version so getting the updated stuff will be nice.
2. Yes. New Orcs and templates, mainly.
3. On and off since it was first released back in the 90s.
4. The ease of play and (comparatively) low barrier to entry.

@filbert

1. You don't really need the new box if you have the previous edition so I expect a lot of people feel as you do.
2. I thought the board's grid was supposed to be the same dimensions. Did I misread something? As for scale creep, I understand but the new figures are incredible and would likely stand out against your existing figures anyway.
3. Heh, you're old like me.
4. Hopefully any changes will be published as a separate .pdf for those with existing sets.

I'm still undecided. I've been playing since the 90's and have everything I need. It will be good to be able to pick up some new teams at a reasonable price (getting a full high elf team from eBay, even with waiting for bargains, proved costly). However, if it turns out that the only way to get a game is with the new rules, I might not have much choice if I intend to play.

The new board does have the same amount of grid squares, that's true but what I was driving at is that should I ever decide to get any of the new models, because they are larger and on larger bases, they won't fit on my lovely custom 3rd Ed board as well as looking out of scale with existing models. I was interested in getting some of the big guys models (i need a Treeman for my Wood Elf team) but not if they won't fit and look completely 'wrong'. It's annoying because I can't see any reason why GW would do this other than to invalidate all the existing models in an attempt to get people to buy the new stuff and that really strikes me as a dick move.

1. The models look great! Technology is much better now then when I started playing. I worry about gdub not making all the teams available from living rulebook 6. Their comment about making more teams if theres interest sounds more like a threat.

2. My area isn't showing interest. I'm considering it if I can find someone to split with.

3. 2nd edition through living rulebook 6

4. Balance, complexity and campaigns. Some teams are legitimately better then othrrs, but I think the longer a team plays and gains skill this starts balancing out.. I hope they don't dumb stuff down. Running a team through a league is the best.

I hope the books are alternative fields and stuff to expand game.

Hi, we may know each other from gaming events, possibly

1.) How do you feel about GW picking up the game again? -- Brilliant! Screw the money grubbing whining--that can be said for any product. It's selling like hot cakes and is a great first release for iconic specialist games. That it looks better, stays in same old off-Fantasy world, maintains its humor and plays even more smoothly is wonderful. You can play at any level you want, though BB shines at league play.

2.) Will you be buying the new box set? If not, why? I got a review copy a month early for podcast but I would, and will buy the campaign book, new dwarf team and others I like. We found you can play the game with your existing team using living rulebook and it still works. Happy all around. Easy to play. Our last league of 20 had 18 who had only ever played video game. I don't do video games but apparently it's very very similar.

3.) How long have you been playing Blood Bowl? First played in 1995 my Chaos Dwarf Team (still have), also played dwarves, lizards and Norse.

4.) What do you like most about Blood Bowl and hope GW never changes? The humor, scale of competitive aspect but whimsical dirty tricks and fouling
Look forward to your article. Please post a link when up.

1) It's about bloody time!

How GW could have left BB on the shelf (or not as the case may be) for so long perplexed me.

I'm also a little confused by the complaints; We have a huge BB following at our club but even the biggest Grognard has welcomed NuBB as this can only attract new blood to the leagues. It also refreshes and codifies allot of the community changes. Finally new models, who doesn't like new models - FW star Players = win to me.

2) Ordered as soon as my local guy said he could get it for 25% off + Dead Zone + Dice.

3) Started playing BB in 1986. First edition was the first GW (or indeed any "wargame") product I ever bought. I sort of left it behind when 2nd Ed. came out with it dropped cardboard pieces for new fangled 3d miniatures. Alas my team of Judges and Fatties could no longer be used without ridicule.

4) Jim n' Bob - or more precisely the wacky Cabalvision addicted world that is attached to the game. The last remnant of late 80's/early 90's un-PC GW that still remains pretty much unchanged.

Also can we get some love for Jervis Johnson who wrote the dammed game. These boards have often been filled with (mostly) undeserved Jervis bashing over the years but BB is a testament to his ability and not insubstantial efforts to keep the game alive over the years.

1.) How do you feel about GW picking up the game again? - its a great game- like many of the specialist games it deserves a bit of love and brings an important aspect of GWs appeal to a new generation. I have no doubt it will be re-established as a player favourite for a long time to come. It might even bring some old curmudgeons back into the fold!

2.) Will you be buying the new box set? If not, why? -No. But mostly because my gaming and spending has been seriously curtailed by the onset of fatherhood. Part of the inevitable cutting down of my collection was selling off my 2nd ed. Blood Bowl box set. (But not my Goblin team) so maybe some time in the future.

3.) How long have you been playing Blood Bowl? My first game was only in 2009 or 2010 or thereabouts. Not that long ago. Before I had kids anyway. It was a game I was aware of since school but had never played. I bought a 2nd hand box set and started a charity tournament.

4.) What do you like most about Blood Bowl and hope GW never changes? - the thing I like most about BloodBowl GW couldn't change if they tried. It is by nature a natural tournament game.
My take on it was to get 8 willing participants to raise entry sponsorship of £20 each to enter a base cost team. Any money raised over that amount could be converted to in game money to spend on your team. It was a hit. We had a great knock out tournament and raised over £300 for charity! (I think it was a local community project) That's always going to be what BloodBowl means to me. Even if it was never my favourite game, (Maybe cause its very hard to win with Goblins.) its still a very special and unique one.

I'll second that. While I thought the original rule book that I had was a Terrible terrible horribly designed book to use I still loved the feel and style of the whole thing. The humour inherent in the rules and charcters and the comedy fluff were a big part of my enjoyment of the game and should be rightly celebrated. Credit where its due for sure.

1.) How do you feel about GW picking up the game again?- Ambivalent. I was playing it just fine before.

2.) Will you be buying the new box set? If not, why?- probably. i never had an actual, real board so I want one of those. Mine have all been homemade.

3.) How long have you been playing Blood Bowl?- Since 3rd edition I think.

4.) What do you like most about Blood Bowl and hope GW never changes?- Hmmm, good question. I like that it is a serious game that takes skill in the form of risk mitigation, but still has a sense of humor and fun and just a bit of randomness. I also love playing seasons with XP and upgraded players.

1.) How do you feel about GW picking up the game again?

I'm glad, its about time...I always saw blood bowl and liked the idea but never got into it. But the dated metal sculpts held me back, the only team that appealed was chaos dwarfs because they always had a certain charm. I am concerned that they are trying to cash in on the nostalgia, and their comments on whether they will support the game or not are very vague. Basically if it doesn't make money I can see it going down the same path it did before. The thing is if they don't offer reasonably priced models and flesh it out then peoples interest may not hold.

2.) Will you be buying the new box set? If not, why?

Yes, and any of my favorite teams that get models i'll also have to buy (nurgle, lizardmen, chaos dwarfs, chaos in general)

3.) How long have you been playing Blood Bowl?

About a month.

4.) What do you like most about Blood Bowl and hope GW never changes?

The alternate old world setting, the fact that it doesn't take itself too seriously. And a tried and true rule-set that hasn't been ruined.

1. Overjoyed, having just the other day got my hands on the box, was very very happy to see they`ve taken the space hulk approach and just tidied up a few rules here and there with no really major changes. Bodes well for a possible BFG revival too.
2. Er yes........
3. since the edition with the poylstyrene board (many many many years ago......late 80's???)
4. its the comedy game....such a fantastic sense of silliness about the whole thing (and a nice line in very groanworthy punning with the names)...great to see jim and bob back!
