HI!

We've been working for over a year now to design and develop a new miniature strategy game called Chronicles. We are currently heading towards a Kickstarter to begin in 2017, and we are looking to get the word out as well as find people interested in helping us with our closed beta.

The Game

Chronicles is a fantasy, miniature strategy/war-game based in the world of Indagar. There are currently 7 described Factions, 3 of which we hope to have available for the Kickstarter. Chronicles presents a unique ruleset and play system which seeks to combine the best of larger scale games and skirmish level games into a fast playing and "less math" dynamic. Like most other war games, you will select a faction, get out your minis, build an army list, and engage in any of many scenarios, which we call battles. Models and game rules are based off of the lore of Indagar and present unique rules and interactions which provide for a very tactical game. In addition, Chronicles is a maneuver based, tactical game meaning your ability to out play your opponent is far more weighted than luck of the dice.

The OCRPG

In addition to the miniature strategy game, Chronicles also offers a companion system known as the On-line Community Role Playing Game (OCRPG). This is a first of its kind innovation which uses the concepts of a social media platform to allow players to engage off the table-top, with the intent to build the ongoing story line as well as create a tight knit community. Using seasons, players interacting in the OCRPG through art, narrative, politics, and military will drive the story line. Our faction leaders and decision makers will literally be real players!

Closed Beta
We are currently in a closed beta phase and are looking for people who would like to get involved with Chronicles early on to help us refine the game. Our closed beta is going to offer rewards including early access to models, helping to develop the game, and also potential seats on faction leadership when we head into our first season.

If you are interested in getting involved, please contact me: neil@chroniclesthegame.com

Kickstarter
We are hoping to go to Kickstarter towards the end of Q1 2017. To do that, we need to have first built up a following of players who are interested in seeing this game and the corresponding OCRPG concept move forward. So, please, join our mailing list, like us on Facebook (/chroniclesthegame), follow us on Twitter/Instagram, or subscribe to our upcoming Youtube channel. We can use this to gauge if we have enough interest in Chronicles to launch.

The first internal alpha version of the OCRPG went up to our live servers today. Being worked on now by UI design chief to make it look pretty.

This will include the gateway to the on-line army builder so we can build armies easily for the closed beta. Also includes the social app, profile, and administration functionality. Excited!

Our Wave 1-2 Minis are now coming back from the painters, and we should be on the road in a couple of weeks visiting our local stores to try and drum up demo games and excitement. We've also picked up some new closed beta testers this week and are doing a rulebook update to match.

We are still looking for more people for closed beta. If you are interested in helping us make our game awesome, let me know. We'd love and could really use the help. We are instituting a closed beta rewards program which will involve early access to at cost models, free starter boxes, and potential access to slots in faction leadership for the OCRPG once we launch. Get in ouch if interested, and we'll ship you a closed beta pack if you want to follow through.

Meanwhile, here's our intro video. Enjoy!

This week, we've been working on updates for the website! Faction pages will be coming soon. We've also got the wheels turning on our first Ramal Nations designs. The Raiders and Kasene are in the works first as we move towards that starter run.

Like the idea, minis shown look good, game looks promising. However, I'm not so sure about the online interaction and social media drive behind the game. Many games have tried to incorporate apps, programs, ipads, social media, etc, and they usually arent very successful. However, it looks like the online Drive is just for the storyline, which casual gamers could stay away from if desired.

It will be interesting to see where this goes. My eyes are on this one.

I think you'll be pleased with the Online Community RPG element, because it's not trying to pigeonhole some sort of tech into Chronicles: The Game, but is rather a platform designed for an entirely different purpose. The OCRPG is basically an entirely different animal than the table-top game. You can definitely play Chronicles: The Game and pay no attention to the OCRPG if that's what you dig, or you can actually just participate in the OCRPG and not in the table-top game at all.. and of course both. So, like you, I've also seen groups try to pigeon hole some tech solution into enhancing their game product, but the OCRPG is intended to actually be its own kind of product.

The real purpose of it is to build the community around Chronicles AND develop the on-going story line of Indagar. We're long time gamers, and have seen many great communities spring up around games over time, fan-driven. So, the real goal of the OCRPG is to give a meaningful outlet for that. Say, you are into painting minis, maybe you are into writing fan fiction, maybe you are a guy that likes to host game nights or tournaments, maybe you are the guy who runs his own fan youtoube channel or podcast, any number of things. The OCRPG gives you a company supported outlet for that, rewards you for it, lets you in fact build a role playing character around it, and then use that character to drive the story line and your faction. Literal figures in the ongoing story line will be represented by players in the OCRPG. For example, the literal King of Arkland will be an actual player!

So, in short, you could totally be into just playing the miniature game, and totally disregard the OCRPG. Likewise, however, you could just totally be into the Chronicles community, like to further it, want to help write the Chronicle storyline, and not even play the miniature game at all. Point is, the OCRPG isn't intended to be some kind of tech add-on for a minigame but an entirely different "thing" on its own.

Closed Beta has been moving along nicely over the last few weeks. We're definitely still in an innovation stage right now, highly focused on increasing the fun of the game while maintaining its current highly tactical depth. We're also looking for more inputs from any would-be game designers out there who are interested in help us with beta testing. The application is on our website: http://www.chroniclesthegame.com
