Greetings all,

What are your thoughts thus far on the upcoming Munchkin CCG? There is a brief interview with designer Eric Lang on the Board Game geek
Website here:

It's going to be interesting ... potential for a light drafting game has me more than a bit interested. More importantly, it won't play
as the original Munchkin. Faster, different art, dynamics and interaction.

Ehhh. Could be fun or a fast cashgrab based on the namesake.

Every game is a cash grab, especially in the Munchkin realm where quality varies a lot with relatively fast-paced release schedules.

I'm hoping they put a lot of time into it on a development level; they have some serious competition these days.

With Eric Lang as the designer, this could be good. I'm tentatively interested.

But the Munchkin kind of has me gagging.

It's also Kevin Wilson, who also designed Descent.

Gameplay looks to be 1 vs.1, with your playing monsters to make your opponent lose all his 17 hit points. Each turn, you gain a level and resource points ("nuggets" in the video) to spend on cards. Monster cards are played face down. Etc. Etc. So different mechanics than Munchkin.

Pretty obviously, Real Boardgamers (tm) are incapable of watching a video and looking past the theme, so will ignore the game. Meanwhile, the Unwashed Masses (tm) will need to be able to understand the mechanics, which may be beyond their obviously simple minds.

I love Eric M Lang (probably vying w/ Bruno Cathala as my #1 designer. Tho Jamey Stegmaier should be up there, too...) and I love Munchkin.

But a Munchkin CCG/TCG? Ehh...

Seems to defeat the some of purpose/spirit of Munchkin.
