I'm sure that there must be some of you who either remember the original Mordheim: City of the Damned boardame, or the video game Rogue Factor put out relatively recently.

Given the time frame chosen (~ 300 before Magnus the Pious becomes Emperor and leads his assault against the incoming Chaos Horde), I have to wonder of all the various factions combing through the ruins of the city.... who "won"?

Was Mordhiem rebuilt before the Storm of Chaos? Or did it just further degenerate for the last 300 years?

In the Empire armybook (pre-2012) it stated the Grand Theogonist and several knight orders burnt the city to the ground not to long after the place was damned.

So the winners are the few souls who successfully got their goods and escaped and Belakor who eventually escapes the city which was his unholy prison.

What's worse, the Gotrek and Felix novel "City of the Damned" revealed everyone who died there had their souls trapped in the city as well. They're described as letters on a page overlapping one another as they're slowly merged together into a otherworldly horror.

With Felix's run in with a female spirit on fire that combusted anything she touched, it's safe to assume their tortured souls also were affected by the city burning down and thus had additional agony put upon them.

Probably don't want to think about that when playing the games and your brave little mercenary finally dies after losing several body parts and still carrying on despite being surrounded by Skaven and undead.

What would you expect from a huge warpstone site? It's amazing that it didn't collapse into a Chaos portal.

Do you feel sorry for the mercenary whose greed drove him to the City of the Damned? It cries out to the wicked and the wretched- thieves, murderers, and scoundrels. Men who spill blood for coin. And there is a lot of blood on his blade....

Actually - my favorite faction to play whether on the boardgame format or on computer was the Sisters of Sigmar. Reminded me a bit of the Sisters of Battle from 40K.

I followed up on their fate since the time of Mordheim.. practically decimiated. Some fell to Chaos, some just died, and a surprising number ended up in the service of the Cult of Morr.. (no reason given as to why though).

Interesting - where did you find the references post Mordheim to the SOS?

But if I understand this correctly - the Skaven clan that descended on Mordhiem like a pack of cocaine junkies never went beyond their number 3 position amongst the Clans.

Not saying anything bad happened to them, but the whole Mordhiem affair seems more....neutral.. for the factions you mentioned.

Its been a long while - I made a list somewhere but I remember pulling from a small passage from a Codex, the Warhammer Fantasy RPG line, and a comic book... I vaguely remember the comic involved some sort of Lahamian infiltration of a segment of the Sisters of Sigmar....

Clan Eshin? They have a very ambiguous place in the Skaven world - slightly off to one side (and preferably behind you with several poisoned knives).

IIRC A lot of the warpstone that was gathered went to power Vlads invasion of the Empire? So he was quite pleased.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Mordheim was not a place to get ahead, it was a place to harvest wyrdstone and get away from. The winners are every faction that learned this made their fortne and escaped with it.
Vald von Carstein is known to be in this category, and for the Skaven the correct approach was the same as their usual modus operandi.
The Sigmarites lost as they tried to remain and cleanse, and the Sisters of Sigmar were later considered a heretical order.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

If I recall correctly, they were already under suspicion due to the fact that some could manifest some rather idiosyncratic uses of Hysh.

As this was before the time of Magnus the Pious and Archmage Teclis' meeting (I think 300 yrs before in fact), this would have definitely raised some eyebrows.

Mordheim is set around the turn of the second millenium, The End Times were five centuries later, and the Colleges of Msgic had been operational for three centuries by then.

So Teclis organised the colleges two centuries after the Mordheim crisis. I see no reason why you couldn't have a Bretonnian damsel, a wood elf mage or a magickal scholar from Araby, all would have access to the 'colleges' of magic prior to Teclis.

Hmm? I think you missed the point i was trying to make.. about the Sisters of Sigmar and the charges of heresy made against them.

Since Mordheim takes place before Magic got the Imperial seal of approval, it would make sense why the rest of the Sigmarite clergy would be very wary of the Sisters, since they were displaying powers that would have been associated with Witchcraft. I don't see what would necessarily make them freak out about Hysh, but some of the premonition/precognitive abilities that the Sisters displayed may have been them channeling Azyr.

As for the Bretonnian Damsel/Grail Maiden and the Wood Elf Spellsinger - i vaguely recally reading they accessed a different form of the Lore of Life, one that shielded them from the influences of Chaos. So yeah, i make no quarrel with the concept that they could have been around at the time.

Same with any mage coming out of Araby, Ind, or Cathay...

I was commenting on the timeline, I didnt challenge your supposition regarding the religious status of the Sisters.

"Won"? This is Warhammer. If someone 'wins' the game stops and they have to blow it up and reboot it.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.
