Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

I will be going up to San Francisco this weekend for their Kubla Con's Golden Gargant RTT. 5 Rounds of 40k fun!

I have blown off the dust of my Nid army and I want to try them out. Here is what I have:

Hive fleet Beowolf

Hive Tyrant +1 Str, +1 BS, 2 TL Devourorers, Wings

Hive Tyrant +1 Str, +1 BS 1 TL Devourores, 1 Venom Cannon, w/2 Tyrant Guard

Dakka Fex x3 (Carnifex, +1 BS 2 TL Devourorers)

12 Genestealers

8 Genestealers w/Enhanced Carapace

7 Genstealers w/Enhanced Carapace (they would be 8, but I lost one somewhere)

14 Spine Gaunts

14 Spine Gaunts

14 Gaunts +1 Str, Devourorer

1 Ravenor

Gunfex w/ +1 BS, Barbed Strangeler, Venom Cannon

Gunfex w/ +1 BS, Barbed Strangeler, Venom Cannon

Basicly this list is to see how good the Devouror is. I have a lot of them, so I can put out a ton of firepower. I took a lot of genestealers as troops because of my lack of synapse. I then added a few spine gaunts for target priority test to help out the genestealers if they need it. The big downside to the little gaunts is in an escalation mission. The will start on the board, and they might run away if anything looks at them funny. I will need to hide them for a turn or 2 until momma comes on to the table.

Why not take some Zoanthropes to help out your Synapse problem instead of the stealers without Carapace? Or a third Gunfex?

You might even want to consider going with the psychic choir. If not, I'd take Shadow in the Warp on your walking Tyrant to at least stop some of the psychic powers that will be flying your way.

Also, if you are planning on running your small guys out in front of your big guys then I really think it is necessary to take a CC winged Tyrant in order to lock up some enemy shooting units in CC.

Luckly for his gaunts there were no escalation missions (given that the missions were v3 RTT ones). He played well with it and deserved the win - Overall Champion. I'd really like to rematch him on a table with more than 10% terrain and mission (v3) that doesn't severely gimp the Attacker from the onset.

How quickly they forget...

The 3rd game was Scouting Engagement where you only start with 2 troops on the board.

But in that round I played a Tyranid player that just ran at me as fast as he could.

I think to win 5 games in a 5 round RTT/GT style format you have to get somewhat lucky, and I had more than my share. For example: In the 2nd round I fought a Blood Angels player on a table with a lot of terrain that broke up his fire lanes, so his Baal predators and Tornadoes could not concentrate their fire. In the 5th game I played a Tau army with no cover on the table, so he had no place to hide his kroot. He also could not use the tactic of moving out from behind cover and shooting his crisis suits, and then moving back behind the cover.

I took pictures of all my games (except the last one where I ran out of memory) and I will post a full batrep on Friday. I hope you put your input into your tactics and your thoughts durring our game.

I can't wait to see the batrep with pictures! I wasn't able to compete in the Golden Gargant because of work and rehearsals, but I did get three old Carnifexes at the monday morning flea market to use as elites, so I can try my hand at Godzilla nids.

No problemo...I look forward to the batrep and re-living the trauma of having a lone guardian scream for "help to be rescued" from behind your massed bugs.
