What is the source of the image?

There are some very talented sculpters out there who have been providing FW quality Epic miniatures for years.

These look great, thanks for the picture But some more info would be helpful

This is the source, wont last long though: http://boards.4chan.org/tg/thread/50657862

It seems they are saying that the models are scanned FW models that have been 3D Printed and then cast by someone.

Well if it's from some garage caster it just proves that 3D Printers can and will replace GW current business plan in the future.

I've been toying with the idea of having a mold 3D printed in steel and then use it to cast plastic bases. Cost would be about $1000 for it compared to the $5000 - 10 000 it would normally cost.

Looks like a garage cast of some sort to me. Just google Epic Horus Heresy and you'll see loads of these presumably scanned and reprinted miniatures.

Still, I can't wait till Forgeworld put out the new Epic....

Although I can't fault the attempt by the recasters. You can see the level of detail is a little blotchy and the paint job and base are not up to FW standards.

Looks fine to me, and certainly better than the 90's Adeptus Titanicus models I still have.

I'm hoping the Epic we do get isn't too ridiculous in price, I'd like to pick up and expand the small collection I do have.

It never ends well

I think you shoul reread your own post.

"It seems they are saying that the models are scanned FW models that have been 3D Printed and then cast by someone. "

They are not 3D printed models, they are casts made from a 3D printed master, huge difference and probably a necessity.

Looks more like a 30K Warlord to me . Love the little Angron in the corner.

Anyway, didn't we see one of these months ago on a FW display?

I'd be surprised if it was something that'll ever get an official release. I've heard they're aiming for a larger scale for the new edition of Titan Legions, or whatever it is they'll call it.

Contemptors and that land speeder is also new afaik.
Lower Right seems to have Angron if I'm not mistaken

Wow! The rumors about the return of specialist games have been going on for quite some time. 40K/30K epic is the one I am most excited for, and if it was done to this quality, I'd happily purchase 10 different armies.

It's going to happen. The game will be called Adeptus Titanicus and will be in 8 mm scale, instead 0f 6 mm.

Looks pretty good to me, it's small scale and details look great. Being able to actually use models and play the game is way better than waiting years for FW just to play "Nostalgia shelf stocking" (IE putting models in a case and going "someday I'll play!")

I wasn't dissing the model. Just I'm really looking forward to see what FW do with epic. As nice as this model is and as cool as it is to see a well scaled 6mm titan next to 6mm troops. The image strikes me as not being a FW paint job

Thing is, if Epic is going to work as a game system, it needs to be supported by GW, preferably through FW.

These models look really great, but if they're going to be difficult to come by, then the majority of players will not consider collecting and playing Epic.

These are the infamous "forum-ware" models which are basically fan-made 6mm copies of GW/FW's 28mm scaled models.

I don't know if there's multiple people making copies of that Angron figure, but it is certainly available from at least one 'enthusiast'. I can attest on account of, umm, a friend of friend.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

The very existence of these models proves that Epic does work as a game system despite being abandoned by GW over a decade ago.

It is difficult to get these particular models because they are scans and therefore not legal to sell. Looking more closely at them I think that at least some of the models are from the Defeat in Detail range from vanguard miniatures, their not termies are linked lower down.

However how about some:

Tau

Orks

Marines

Basically most 40K armies can already be well represented using third part miniatures without having to go undercover to get your hands on some forumware, which isn't actually all that hard to do and covers everything from Necrons to Primarchs.

Got to say I like the quality of the Forum-Ware stuff but it is expensive. I picked up a warhound for £50. Reavers are around £100 and I saw a Warlord go for £170.

Good thing for me is that due to other projects I was able to make several more for personal use meaning the £50 wasn't for a single model.

I wonder if the Forum-ware models are roughly the correct scale as the new 8mm titan's will be. Any ideas? Anyone with a Forum ware Warlord know the height of it? The new Warlords are supposedly going to be around 20cm in height going by the current rumours
