So I have decided to get into Infinity, and am now asking for informed advice as the best approach to make my investment. I'm not new to miniature gaming so I always go by the tried and true tested way of buy the mini's you like. This has always served me well.

So I like Ariadna and Haqqislam. So would the Red Veil set be my best option?

If you can wait a bit, the Haqqislam set will be released by itself soon.
The only downside to that would be you not getting the Al Fasid model that's included in Red Veil.

Regarding Ariadna...
They're slated for some major overhauls to the model range/factions. Specifically the French stuff(Merovingian Rapid Response Force) and the Russian stuff.

We don't know exactly when all that will happen though.

I will say this: Buying the minis you like is totally a valid way to do it. Just wanting to make sure you're informed up front and don't feel cheated later on if a much nicer revised sculpt comes out.

To expand on this, the Al Fasid does have a model out that's not in Red Veil. But that specific model will stay in the Red Veil box. So you won't be able to get a HMG Al Fasid unless you buy that box or proxy. Or manage to find one for sale from someone that bought the set but doesn't want the Haqqislam models, but those models limited to the box tend to go for a higher cost because a lot of people want them.

That said, I don't think it'll be too hard to find a buyer for the Yu Jing side of the set. Plus it gives you some nice cardstock terrain if you plan on gaming at home.

Or you could get it from the Shae Konnit split minis thread like i did. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/442723.page He even ships to your part of the world so getting the starter and Al Fasid separately should be do-able.

If you can find a buyer for the YJ, that probably is your best route, along w/ a few other solo models or another Haqq starter (of any type) you want to mix in, if you want to go w/ Haqq.

If you want to go w/ Ariadna, and want to try a sectorial, you can get the USAriadna box (if that sectorial you want to try is USAriadna lol). Both options should get you to a full 300pts for ~$100ish (presuming you can find buyer of YJ half of RV).

One of the top things I like about the game - basically everything has its uses or is viable in some way. The game is truly more about tactics and decision-making than list-building.

The USAriadna box is nowhere near 300 points.

The only way to have made it more is if you got the version with the dismounted Maverick and fielded her as another Foxtrot FO.

Additionally:
Caledonia(the British/Scottish expedition) is slated for revamps soon. Supposedly next year we'll start seeing the first of it. I know there's been mention of a new starter for them, so it might be a 300 point box.

All good. It's a sore spot for me, since that "Army Box" while a great deal money wise...is awful points wise.

yeah, I can definitely see that.

At least the good thing about it for prospective new players is all the peripheral stuff that's included. So it potentially can be a good starting point for OP if he wants to try a sectorial. Get that army box + the Ranger force pack and/or some solo models. Still a relatively cheap entry point.

Generally the suggested purchase list for someone getting into USARF was:
-USARF Army Pack(includes the Ranger Force pack)
-Grunts box
-Traktor Mul box
-Dozer Engineer with Traktor Mul Control Device
-Hardcase
-Airborne Ranger with SMG

That now can also include the Marauders box, the Mavericks box, and the Unknown Ranger(generic release) blister as well.

I have purchased Red Veil. It seems like a good way to learn a complex game and if a friends wants to try it I have a second army out of the box.

I will keep all the models as YJ is high on my list of armies to collect as well. Haq will be my first list to expand upon so if anyone wants to recommend next purchases for Haq that would be awesome.

I'd recommend to buy the Haqqialam Support Pack with which you'll get a, I think Ghulam, Doctor, the Najjarun Engineer and two G: Servant Nasmat bots.

Also a good investment because you'll use them pretty often ar the basic Haqqislam remotes:

And after you got some more experience you might want to use these Guys (and annoy your opponent ):
Spoiler:

Saladin's Strategos L3 gives you the ability to use his lieutenant order as an additional regular order and forces your opponent to deploy his whole army at once whilst you can keep two units as reserves

A Fiday uses his Impersonation and can manage to kill your opponen's most valuable troops.

A Viral Sniper Rifle forces your opponent to make two BTS rolls per hit, that's way better than the normal Sniper Rifle

ssuming you bought the Support Pack, you could play them like this (Troop can be proxied by...):
Haqqislam
