I've always liked the idea of collecting different chapters but not enough time nor money to do so. When the Deathwatch was created a few years ago, I created a 10 man squad using the metal parts that were available then. With the new plastic Deathwatch releases, I finally had the time, money and ability to create a Deathwatch Army.

I work on the rule of cool - I don't build to game, just for the love of converting, modelling and painting. Some of my models have illegal weapon load outs e.g. bolt pistols, but I can't see how the most ELITE Space Marines can not carry side arms!!. Whenever I see a useful Space Marine part on ebay or bitz sites I get it as you never know when you will need to use it! So without further ado:

Silver Skulls Deathwatch Veteran

This trooper was made from the new Deathwatch Veteran Kit which has a fantastic amount of spare pieces to make loads more troopers when added to my bitz box. Rather than the usual standing pose, I went with a kneeling pose.

Blood Drinkers Deathwatch Veteran

This Chapter Badge was easy to make. I used a Blood Angel Shoulder Pad and added a Blood Drop taken from another Blood Angel part.

Relictors Deathwatch Veteran

I used an old Warhammer Shield Skull for a chest piece and a skull from a Thunder hammer to make the Relictors' Chapter Badge.

Space Wolves Deathwatch Veteran

I really enjoyed making this veteran. I've never painted a face and hairstyle like it before and it was far easier than I thought it would be.

Iron Hands Deathwatch Veteran

I had purchased the Iron Hands robotic legs years ago and had used it on another model. When I was creating my Iron Hands veteran, I canabalised the part and added a FW Iron Hands Torso and Helmet to really emphasise which Chapter the veteran comes from!

I've completed 32 Deathwatch veterans so far and will add more to this thread in the near future.

Some more Deathwatch Veterans:

Emperors Swords

This is a Chapter I made up. The shoulder pad was from the Dark angels range. I really enjoyed painting the face on this one.

Mentor Legion

I made use of the Deathwatch Veteran Upgrade sprue on this trooper

White Consuls Deathwatch Veteran

This Chaptor badge was a fairly simple conversion from the Raptor/Mentor Legion Shoulder pad.

Emperors Spears Deathwatch Veteran

This Chapter badge was sculpted from milliput.

Salamanders Deathwatch Veteran

I loved making this Veteran. I think twin thunder hammers looks super cool and thoroughly in keeping with the Salamanders Chapter.

Till next time, Phil.

Some more Deathwatch Veterans:

Howling Gryphon Deathwatch Veteran

I love the shotgun Veterans. I imagine these troops in front of a horde army dishing out the Emperor's salvation!!!

I love the heraldry on this Chapter badge.

Genesis Deathwatch Veteran

The shoulder pad was made from milliput. I sculpted an upside down triangle. Once dry, I shaped and sanded it. I then added the symbol with more milliput. I shaped and sanded it once dry to what you see here. I'm very happy with how it turned out.

Charcadon Deathwatch Veteran

The shark was sculpted with milliput. I let the rough shape set for around 1 hour and then with a new scalpel, I cut the shape of a shark out. It's not perfect, but I'm overall happy with this sculpt and paint job.

Red Wolves Deathwatch Veteran

I used lots of Space Wolves parts on this one. Black and red shoulder pad rather than the usual colours.

Blood Angels Deathwatch Veteran

I think this is the one of the best faces I've ever painted.

Storm Giant Deathwatch Veteran

This was a simple conversion, a thin piece of plasticard cut in the shape of a lightning bolt. Simple but really effective.

Mortificators Deathwatch Veteran

A press mould skull made this Deathwatch Veteran into a Mortificator.

Fleshtearer Deathwatch Veteran

What else is better than one chainaxe? Two chainaxes!!!

Imperial Fist Deathwatch Veteran

This was made years ago when the original metal head, shoulder pad and bolter was first released.

Brazen Claws Deathwatch Veteran

I opted for this way of painting the shoulder pad instead of the usual quartered version.

Ultramarine Deathwatch Veteran

Imperial Paladin Deathwatch Veteran

Black Templar shoulder pad painted in the Imperial Paladin chapter colours.

Angel of Vengeance Deathwatch Veteran

I raided my Dark Angels bits for the shoulder pad and my scouts for his sniper rifle.

Sons of Orar Deathwatch Veteran

This was an Ultramarine symbol press moulded and then carefully whittled down to fit and then stuck upside down. Simple and again, I think very effective.

Ultramarine Tyrannic War Deathwatch Veteran

I got this model from ebay. With a few Deathwatch bits added, another trooper completed.

Till next time, Phil.

I think overall it is impressive as all hell!!!

So many awesome deathwatch marines!

Only small criticism I can make is the Relictors marine looks very odd with the big cartoony skull stuck on his breastplate.

Still, hella good work in total!

More reinforcements:

Lamenters Deathwatch Veteran

This shoulder pad wasn't difficult to do - time consuming, but not hard. A small layer of milliput was smoothed within the shoulder pad frame. It was allowed to almost dry when I used a clean scalpel blade and gently pressed the chequerboard design. Once dry, a small ball of milliput was made into a flat disc. Once dry, a small heart was sculpted out of milliput. To finish, I carved a small blood drop out of a thin piece of plasticard. Simple, but effective!

Raptor Deathwatch Veteran

I made this a number of years ago but swopped the shoulder pad to a raptor one when the new plastics came out.

Imperial Fist Deathwatch Veteran

Crimson Fist Deathwatch Veteran

Blackshield Deathwatch Veteran

I wanted to paint this Blackshield's shoulder pad with the base layer of his disavowed legion. Which chapter could he come from????

Marines Exemplar

Simple conversion - bottom half of the Novamarine shoulder pad removed and a plastic skull stuck on top.

Ultramarine Deathwatch Veteran

Another kill squad:

Omega Marine Deathwatch veteran

I turned an Ultramarine symbol 180 degrees and then added a skull to make the Omega Marine badge.

Brotherhood of a Thousand Deathwatch Veteran

This shoulder pad started with a small disc of milliput. Once dry, I carefully sculpted a capital letter M out of milliput.

Death Spectres Deathwatch Veteran

I used a Deathguard crossed scythes icon with a skull added to make this shoulder pad.

Fire Lords Deathwatch Veteran

The shoulder pad was based on a Word Bearers icon. I added an imperial fist icon to finish.

Deathstrike Deathwatch Veteran

This icon was sculpted from nearly dry milliput and a sharp scalpel blade.

Blackshield Deathwatch Veteran

Iron Lords Deathwatch Veteran

This shoulder pad started as a Nova Marine. The bottom part was filed off and then an imperial fist icon was added.

Red Hunter Deathwatch Veteran

White Minotaur Deathwatch Veteran

Marauders Deathwatch Veteran

More reinforcements!!

Blood Angels Deathwatch Veteran

I made this vet years ago from the original metal deathwatch head, weapon and shoulder pad - a simple conversion.

Hawklord Deathwatch Veteran

I loved making this Marvel - Ironman pose!!

I almost went cross eyed painting the scrolls on this one!!

Tauran Deathwatch Veteran

Black Templar Deathwatch Veteran

Regards, Phil.

I will do a group shot when I get everything finished, but I still have most of a bike squad and multiple terminators as well as more Veterans to start painting!!!

More veterans:

Black Templar Deathwatch Veteran

I made this veteran years ago when the original metal shoulder pad and bolt guns came out.

Blood Angel Deathwatch Veteran

Lots of Blood Angel parts were used on this marine. I decided to use an older jump pack mark on this one and bend a deathwatch icon over the top.

Invaders Deathwatch Veteran

I decided to use a Mk III marine as they look cool when armed with boarding shields! The invaders icon was made from a spare plastic skull and a star sculpted from milliput.

Sable Swords Deathwatch Veteran

I used 2 Dark Angels icons swords chopped and bent to fit on the shoulder pad. I thought some extra fuel tanks would help bring more righteous fury on xeno scum!!

Masters of Proteus Deathwatch Veteran Biker

The Chapter badge was sculpted from milliput. I used a spare outrider bike and parts from multiple kits to make this vet.

Till next time, Phil.

Knights of the Raven Deathwatch Veteran

Update time.

No conversion needed on this shoulder pad - a simple paint job was all that was required.

Dark Angel Deathwatch Veteran

A quick conversion from Dark Angel parts I had in my bits box.

White Templars Deathwatch Veteran

I wanted a special force vibe for this guy - I added a few bolter magazines across his chest to make sure he never runs out of ammo. The shoulder pad was sculpted out of milliput.

Dark Angel Deathwatch Veteran

You can never have too many heavy flamers to kill the xeno scum!!!

Brazen Minotaurs Deathwatch Veteran

Just a simple paint job on this one.

Dark Hunters Deathwatch Veteran

The shoulder pad was again a simple milliput sculpt.

Salamanders Deathwatch Veteran

Lots of ammo on this veteran.

I've just finished my 100th veteran. I'll post more over the next few days.

Regards, Phil.

Really sorry for the late comment on this thread, but I just wanted to say how great these Deathwatch Veterans look! You've clearly put a lot of time and effort into them and the artistic style is quite refreshing - bold and decisive is a nice change from the usual grittiness of 40k minis. Some of the poses of these models are fantastic - there's a great dynamism to the running models armed with close combat weapons or pistols, while some of your other models exude a palpable aura of menace, like the Dark Hunter's axeman or the Salamander with the infernus heavy bolter.
Great stuff - keep it up!

Do you know what your sin is, Malcolm Reynolds?
Ah hell, I'm a fan of all seven.
But right now, I'm gonna have to go with wrath.

Thanks Drakeslayer for your kind words. I have been very busy lately and finished lots more Deathwatch Veterans and I'll post these over the next few days:

Crimson Fist Deathwatch Veteran

Simple paint job to convert this from an Imperial Fist to a Crimson Fist.

Iron Knights Deathwatch Veteran

I sculpted the shoulder pad cross out of milliput and have since made a mould to make different chapters with similar designs. I added lots of spare magazines as I feel you can never have too much ammo!!!

Flesheaters Deathwatch Veteran

This was a fairly simple chapter badge to make. Once a thin layer of milliput had almost dried, I used a scalpel to cut out the shape of the badge. I am really pleased with the result.

Doom Warriors Deathwatch Veteran

I haven't done many plasma weapons, so I thought I'd go overboard on this veteran! I used a Sternguard shoulder pad as a base and then extended the tail feathers from milliput. Once dry, I added a lightning bolt from milliput and finally a small skull to finish. Simple to do, but painstakingly slow!

Carmine Blades Deathwatch Veteran

The shoulder pad was made from a skull and blood drops made from milliput.

Herald of Ultramar Deathwatch Veteran

The shoulder pad started as a Blood Angel icon with a star sculpted over the middle. Easy to do.

Storm Hawks Deathwatch Veteran

I cut a lightning bolt out of thin plasticard and added it to a Raptor shoulder pad. Again, a simple conversion!

Rampagers Deathwatch Veteran

I used an Imperial Fist icon as the starting point for this chapter badge. After placing it at a 45 degree angle and then added some plasticard lightning bolts.

I'll add some more soon.

Regards, Phil.

More updates:

Blackshield Deathwatch Veteran

This was made years ago when the original metal head, shoulder pad and bolt gun were released. I went with an "Alien" type weapon by using a metal SM Scout Heavy Bolter.

Imperious Reavers Deathwatch Veteran

I used an Ultramarine shoulder pad as the base and then used a sword from a DA icon and carefully filed it until it was the same depth as the UM icon. When added together, a striking chapter badge was created.

Iron Hands Deathwatch Veteran

I used a backpack from the Devastators set to differentiate this marine.

White Scar Deathwatch Veteran

As with the Blackshield veteran posted earlier, this was made from the original metal parts and a metal White Scar shoulder Pad.

Shadow Wolves Deathwatch Veteran

Went overboard with wolves on this one!! I don't plan on making anymore Space Wolves conversions so I thought I'd try and use as many SW parts I had in my bits box for this one.

Imperial Talons Deathwatch Veteran

The shoulder pad was sculpted out of milliput. I've made a small mould so I can do other chapters with the same icon in the future.

Blood Swords Deathwatch Veteran Biker

The bike was taken from the DA Dark Vengeance box set and equipment was added to allow the biker to scout ahead of the main deathwatch and survive.

The shoulder pad was created by filing and carefully bending a sword from an old DA icon and then adding 3 blood drops made from plasticard. Again, simple but effective.

Novamarine Deathwatch Veteran

I love the bases that I've found for the Assault squad - fun to paint up!

White Scar Deathwatch Veteran

Skull Bearer Deathwatch Veteran

I used an Armorcast missile launch part on this trooper and I am really happy with how the "blast" has turned out.

Consecrator Deathwatch Veteran

I used a modified Dark Angel icon to make this chapter badge.

Deathwatch Chaplain Cassius

Deathwatch Mantis Warriors

This chapter badge was sculpted out of milliput.

Deathwatch Iron Snakes Veteran

This Chapter Badge was made from a small amount of milliput.

Deathwatch Aurora Veteran

I converted a Sternguard shoulder pad with a small amount of milliput to make this badge.

Deathwatch Black Consuls Veteran

This is a slightly converted Raptor shoulder pad. I’ve since added a heavy bolter backpack to finish this.

Deathwatch Celebrants Veteran

This Chapter Badge was made from a mould of the star I made for the Herald of Ultramar and some converted Dark Angel icons.

Deathwatch Iron Champions Veteran

This Chapter Badge was made from a converted crux terminatus icon.

Deathwatch Imperial Stars

I used the Heralds of Ultramar star mould to make this Chapter Badge.

Fairly simple. Black undercoat was followed by GW black all over. Grey was then used as an edge highlight.

I prefer to weather my normal chapter with sponged on silver along the edges, but I wanted to give my Deathwatch a pristine appearance.

It's been a while since I last posted anything, but I haven't been idle!

Blackguard Deathwatch Veteran

A small amount of milliput was used to sculpt this Chapter Badge.

Avenging Sons Deathwatch Veteran
Again, a small amount of milliput and patience was used for this Chapter Badge.

Disciples of Caliban Deathwatch Veteran
I converted a Howling Griffons to make this Chapter Badge.

Storm Callers Deathwatch Veteran

This Chapter Badge was fairly simple to make from milliput.

Blackshield Deathwatch Veteran
This was made from a Limited Edition marine that I picked up from ebay.

Emperor's Warbringers Deathwatch Veteran

Guardians of Celeres Deathwatch Veteran
A small skull mould and a small amount of milliput and patience was used to make this Chapter Badge.
A Ravenwing Meltabomb rack was added to this veteran's backpack.
I wanted this veteran to have a Special Forces vibe, so I added lots of pouches to his chest.

Excoriators Deathwatch Veteran

This Chapter Badge was an Imperial Fist icon with small milliput lightning bolts added.

Blackwing Deathwatch Veteran
Milliput was used to sculpt this Chapter Badge.

Crimson Guard Deathwatch Veteran

Hammers of Dorn Deathwatch Veteran

An Imperial Fist Chapter Badge was used as a base with a hammer and laurels sculpted with milliput.

Soul Drinker Deathwatch Veteran

A Blood Angel shoulder pad was used as the base for this Chapter Badge. This is prior to the Soul Drinkers decline!

Heralds of Vengeance Deathwatch Veteran
A skull mould and a scyth sculpted from milliput was used for this Chapter Badge.

Knights of Gryphonne Deathwatch Veteran
I added more ammo to this Vets chest.

Astral Knights Deathwatch Veteran

Storm Lords Deathwatch Veteran

A Skull mould and some plasicard lightning bolts were used for this Chapter Badge.

Although I haven't posted for a while, I have been busy on the modelling and painting front. Without further ado.....

Deathwatch Centurions

This shows a group shot of my 4 Centurions. Over the past few months, I have decided to model dead Genestealers on the bases of the majority of my models to give the base a boost and to help make them pop!

This is my Heavy Bolter wielding killer. I can just imagine him crunching the Genestealer and grinding them under foot!

This is my siege drill killer. I really enjoyed hacking and carving the Genestealer so the Centurion's foot has totally crunched down to bed rock.

My Heavy Support Centurion. I feel he is shouting "Who's next".

Finally, my Grav Cannon Centurion. I buy lots of bits but unfortunately, I couldn't get the usual weapon sponsons and engine, so I made some alternatives instead.

This is a close up of the shoulder pads I made for all of my Centurions. Let there be no doubt that these are Deathwatch.

Deathwatch Land Speeder

To take down as many of the horde as possible, I loaded up this Land Speeder with 2 Assault Cannons.

I hate edge highlighting!!!!

Deathwatch Terminators

I decided to arm this Tartaros Terminator with Twin Incinerators. I used Grey Knight Incinerators, tubes made from Green Stuff Industries Tentacle Maker and a shoulder pad from Shapeways.

This former Death Guard still loves his Power Scythe. I liked sponging on blood on his weapon.

This is my Iron Father/Techmarine with servitor. I love the blue contrast paint - it really makes power cables pop over a white base coat. What's better than 1 Volkite weapon? Obviously, 2!!!!

This Mortificator Tartaros utilises vicious hand held Chain weapons........

I loved sponging the blood on this one!

This is a Sons of Medusa Terminator. The Death Guard models are wonderful and I highly recommend them to everyone.

This is my Howling Griffon Deathwatch Terminator armed with a Rad Missile Launcher. I have bought lots of FW weapons over the past few months and have converted them all to fit my Deathwatch Terminators. More to follow soon...…….
