Excluding the HQ units which tend to come with individual bases, what bases do you use? I was thinking of using the GW small square bases and then using movement trays for them. What do you use? I've also seen people using magnets on their bases, how viable is this? Even using four in a row on the old GW long bases (again magnetised). How is that actually done?

Sorry for all the questions, brand new when it comes to models with no bases or group movement outside of Warhammer Fantasy which was donkeys years ago.

Thanks

Alright, we'll call it a draw

Edited in view of "base them however" being the method.

Well, some of this depends on what other game systems you intend to use your historical models with? Since Hail Caesar doesn't really care how you do it, you may want to base your minis for a different system you play that does care about it.

I see. Ignore what I said then and base 'em how you like.

I don't play Hail Caesar YET, but I would do the classic troops as 4x4 minis to base. 40mmx40mm for infantry. Same as Black Powder. Isn't there a suggestion in the Rule book? I know I went through fits trying to decide how to base my ACW minis. So I feel your pain and indecision. I just did what it said in the BP rulebook. I had to buy warlord bases to do so, rather than the Perry Mini bases they came with however.

I don't have the rulebook as yet, I'll have to press further and see what people come up with. I love the models so started painting them before I started getting into actually playing it

I know the models aren't actually removed individually either (Wound counters/markers) so whatever formation they go into they could potentially stay in that formation but I like flexibility in that regard. So possibly magnetising is probably the way to go but I have no idea how to do it on movement trays etc. So I was looking for inspiration and ideas from what folks already have

Fenrir has the recommendation, but it is not required that you do it that way.

The book has 120mm to 160mm unit frontage for your basic infantry in 28mm scale. Any bigger and the units can get a little unwieldy on the table top, especially if you play on a 6ft table.

I feel the need, the need for speed.
