In news & rumor, I've seen several mentions of Adeptus Titanicus coming later this year (October?).

However, from what I have read it looks like it is going to be a slightly larger scale (10mm vs. Epic's 6mm) and it's unclear if they will also be doing the vehicle ranges. It does sound like they don't intend to be including infantry. Someone quoted "they don't want to be redoing 40K in smaller scale" - which is odd, because 40K has essentially become Epic...

Its 8mm, although to be honest the original Epic miniatures were always on the large side for 6mm so there may not be all that much of a difference.

It's not really a new version of Epic, its a revamped version of Adeptus Titanicus which is what Epic eventually grew out of. Supposedly the rules aren't going to be changed much if at all.

At present there are only going to be new Titan models, the Warlord is all but certain to be in the box but I wouldn't be suprised to see a Reaver or a pair of Warhounds either. If it does well there are plans to expand into tanks and infantry, basically replicating the original development of Epic.

Not much is known beyond that although it is supposed to be released this year.

There is no great desire to redo Epic. While we may get more games at the same scale – such as a massed tank version there is no desire to see a combined titan/tank/infantry battle. Basically they don’t just want 40k at a smaller scale.

I'm glad that GW don't appear to have plans for Epic proper. I don't trust GW at all these days and as it stands the 2 main Epic rulesets are well cared for by an active community and third party manufacturers.
This re release will bring in new players at least and hopefully plastic Knights at some point. Forumware ones are expensive...

Well GW said epic wasn't appealing because they didn't want to do a down scaled version of 40k. Titanicus I can understand because of the focus on the titans and potential for a unique game. But IMO epic just isn't necessary right now, and I don't want GW to overdo it and end up with a bunch of specialist games they can't support properly. They are already going slow with the Blood Bowl reboot, the last thing we need is more games not getting the attention they need and deserve.

I'll happily add Warhounds to my Battletech forces.

The other Titans will be too big, but as a fan of big stompy robots, I might be playing this.

But epic isn't just 40k with smaller game. It's BIG battles as opposed to platoon scale skirmish. You don't get big battles by just upping model count. It will just be big skirmish.

I would love for Epic to get re-released in 6mm scale. If 10mm then that would be really annoying as I've no intention to re-buy armies.

As for being just small 40k, that is quite far from truth as far as game play goes. As tneva points out, the view scale is different. You wouldn't able to do epic in 28mm scale without using a floor space of a hall for "table".

Well as above, GW said its going to be 8mm with whatever they release. Which is about the same size as the 6mm stuff out there, so no issue

I'm fine with them not redoing it. Plenty of third party stuff and a community keeps it alive.

I'll be in for AT, but EPIC 40K would be fantastic, and probably the only 'mainline GW' game I'd buy moving forward.

Unless by some miracle they manage to fix 40K in 8th...

Due you mean Epic in general or the 'red headed stepchild edition' that was Epic:40k

I for one would like to see a usable and playable 40k game, or at least one in the same setting. By far the easiest way to go about this is to rerelease Epic:Armageddon. Not that this will happen of course....

I really liked Epic: 40,000. I'll happily play any version of Epic. and as good as Epic: Armageddon was, it's the worst one for titans. They came off very poorly in that iteration....

Huh? The ones here http://www.net-armageddon.org/page/rules

are very good. Warhounds atleast one are taken in many marine lists. IG usually take one. Sometimes also Warlords are taken.

That's just imperial titans though. Eldar have great ones, as do chaos. Not sure how you think they were bad?

Quality models for decent prices.

Throw in NetEPIC rules and your set.

I rather not trust GW with a game that's been supported by the fans for soo long with no issues.

It sounds like GW is unwilling to commit to having to rebuild the whole epic range. Makes sense, stores are crowded enough as it is, don't need to fill them with all the bits and bobs from a rebuilt epic range... to say nothing of the cost from all new moulds.

So they're doing the big box thing like with Space Hulk, Warhammer Quest and Bloodbowl, re-releasing an old favourite as a limited issue release, with some specific add on boxes released later on.

It isn't that the titans are bad for their points, it's that they're not as interesting as they were previous versions of the game. Unless you take a Titan list you can't customise your weapons, and titans have a defined role in the game (Warlords and Gargants march up to plonk between two objectives for T&H, Warhounds skirmish along the flanks to set up a blitz grab). This isn't a complaint about the game, because it's truly excellent design to see everything, including titans having a clear strategic role in the game.

But it does mean that they feeling of insane power as you smashed whole formations turn after turn is gone with this new edition. I wouldn't want Epic Armageddon touched to bring that back, because it would destabilise the very clever balance already in place in that game. But a seperate game which focuses just on titans, makes them kings of the battlefield and returns all their fiddly rules detail- that would be welcome.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I'm fine with them not redoing it. Plenty of third party stuff and a community keeps it alive.

The main thing for me is that many want to buy original models instead of 3rd party stuff (almost same or not). The fact means that it is hard to get new players interested. I have enough models to last me a lifetime but new players don't. This partly applies to rules as well as they are not in one single book and instead in websites and pdfs. I mean I love the game and mostly play it, but I'd still want support from GW.

I can see that. I got involved in it a few years back because two friends got ahold of third party stuff/ebay when it was in full swing and not C&D on all third party stuff. After that it was a long road of ebaying and finding "the guy" who knew "a guy" to get the third party stuff. It is a big pain to try and get stuff. I actually reached 21 EPIC armies at one point I was so into it. I love it and think its one of the best systems, but have since sold some off. Now down to 14 armies and cant bear to get rid of.

It is not the same. Besides most people prefer to decide what they play based on the army and not availability.

I have 3 epic armies and I play netepic gold rules.

Marines - I can find anything I need, official, 3rd party, none are an issue.

Tyranids - basic plastics will set you back £70 or so per swarm box.
The metals keep getting brought up but some lovely nob who then tries asking triple the value due to them being in short supply.
Just a hint, but zoanthropes go for £12 for 3.
This guy has over 50 for sale at £15 each model now, while the rest of eBay is dry.

3rd party infantry can come from onslaught miniatures.
The bigger stuff has no real decent stand in models.

Necrons - all troops are from a Czech store.
Destroyers are converted, monoliths come from Spain or Russia.
Pylons come from anywhere I can get them as I've not seen one in months.
Either way, there are no official models.

All in all, I rather have the original models.
However, due to mainly greed of 2 certain ebay user stores this isn't always possible.

However, for the armies that do the have models, or newer 40k put into epic;

Vanguard miniatures is your best bet.
John there stocks a full onslaught range.
His own range of models.
Between the 2 they cover most epic units.

And the prices are also great.
Then to top it off its stupidly quick at arriving.

You can usually find stuff still in blisters if you are so inclined and the entire Epic range can still be bought from Ebay if you don't mind rarer items being very expensive.

Some people are just far too fussy.

Sort of. There is a fuzzy line between being overly fussy and not being willing to pay over the odds. Rank and file troop types, especially Marines and Ork boyz and plentiful on ebay but the metal vehicles/tanks etc are increasingly difficult to find and with few 3rd party alternatives. The ones that you do find on ebay suffer from ridiculous mark-ups. Tyranid stuff is even worse, some of the prices are horrendous. I can't honestly believe that people actually pay that money for them but I continually see them listed for those prices so maybe they are?

I mean that people are overly fussy if they need to buy brand new GW models.

On Ebay at the moment there is a lot of metal Epic stuff for reasonable prices, even relatively rare stuff like Eldar.

There is even an Imperator Titan for £50.

Forumware massively expands the available models as well, some of it even ends up on Ebay.

Ease of access is a big one for many people starting a new game. While I don't necessarily have a big problem buying stuff off ebay, I know I'll have a bigger issue convincing others to start a game with OOP models, especially if some of those items are becoming rare and expensive.

Does it? Perhaps I'm not asking the right questions, but a lot of the stuff I see is made in single batches, low production runs and if you weren't in the right clique at the right time, then you won't get any. Fair enough for those that got them, and I understand the reasons, but it doesn't increase the amount of available models to me.

I'm waiting until I see some actual miniatures; Epic's "scale" was all over the shop. Even within a single edition, Infantry were "bigger" than vehicles which were "bigger" than the official buildings. With this forthcoming game being restricted to Titans only, that means I might be able to just add them in to my existing Epic armies with no real issue.

It is unfortunately very much dependent on who you know for obvious reasons, although I would imagine that most people who are active in the Epic community would have at least 1 contact who can get them some black market toys.

There is at least one operation that has an online catalogue that is regularly updated with sculpts that are at least GW quality and the sculpts themselves are well made from the examples I have seen.

That's kind of part of the problem. Not everyone is going to be or wants to be part of the online community just to play a game. Only a fraction of wargamers are actually an active part of the online community for the specific games they play.
