Hi there! Looks like you've got a pretty neat painting style, however to get the most out of feedback from the rest of us you may need to tweak your photos slightly. The first few are quite dark where the models are concerned and it's hard to make them out. Sometimes photographing white can be as tricky as painting it. My experience is to try and use natural light where possible, unless you can afford to invest in a light box.

Followed your advice and edited my original post to include the new photos with better (natural) lighting on a wood background.

Those photos are much improved- your models look great! I especially like the grave wardens and the rust effects on them. It's a great contrast against the white armour.

These are damn nice. Love the Deathsroud man. I've always been strict on the type of green I liked on my 30k Deathguard and it was always that murky, yellowish green you see often - but this, this is definitely very nice.

The weathering you did on the Deathshroud, in particular the belt that hangs down in front of his crotch is awesome.

Those are simply gorgeous. Mortarion is nicely weathered, and looks suitably corrupt. Decius, on the other hand, is clean as ever. The Green on him is rich and beautiful, and i'm so happy to see Decius finally in modular form.

@gummyofallbears (nice name btw) and @JustaerinAtTheWall - the minty green is just white and greenskin (army painter equivalent of whichever paint GWS use for Orkz). Typically I'd not do a minty green trim on my Death Guard but like JustaerinAtTheWall kinda pointed towards - Decius is clean, or rather, to me he is supposed to be clean (at least til Nurgle gets a hold of him). I wanted him to look like he belongs at Nathaniel Garro's side, and in Flight of the Eisenstein I recall Nathaniel Garro having his sword cleaned by his failed-marine adjunct. I kinda just assumed from that Garro's armour would also be clean (compared with his Barbaran brothers) and that the same would be the case for Decius and the rest of Garro's command squad.

I really do need to get a hold of that Garro model and convert him to be the original Death Guard Captain (remove the proto-Inquisitor symbols).


@IR0N - Thanks! Initially my using this green was kinda laziness/lack of money (I didn't have any dirty army green/yellowed green, couldn't afford any and didn't want to keep mixing it). But to be honest this deep green has grown on me... even if they are looking a little bit like green World Eaters

Converted myself some more walky-armour (I like Death Guard Dreadnoughts - since Death Guard footslogged more often than not in the fluff I figure their armour should footslog too)

I've not named him yet (welcoming all ideas).
I've made him look a bit generic deliberately so he can fill multiple Centurion roles (all the while still carrying The Barbaran Thurible - because -1T to everyone in 12" is fun)

Speaking of which, I will probably be using him mostly as a Praevian in a squad of Vorax Battle-Automata. I have this amusing idea where I take a Praevian with Rad Grenades and The Barbaran Thurible (-2 Toughness to anyone he gets into melee with) and then Irad Cleansers on the Vorax (-1 Toughness to any unit they wound). For a whopping total of -3 Toughness which will make hordes of GEQs weep as they just vanish off the board 'cause alchemical warfare is fun.

I wanted to try some World Eater-level gore on one of my Deathshroud. I think it turned out alright. Perhaps a little over the top but I kind of like the way the blood contrasts with the armour and even the base. It draws the eye nicely.

The blood effect on that deathshroud guy is awesome! REALLY looks like the guy's been through it!

Believe it or not, I like the blood effects, it's done very nicely and has great sourcing from the scythe.

I also love the centurion, what is the cloak made of?

Finally a fresh (sort of) new addition to my Death Guard.
I have about 30 Plague Marines incoming too. The Pallid Hand will be my 30k army in 40k form!
I also got a Light Box so will he rephotographing my way through my Death Guard (these photos are all rather dated at this point, I've completed a few more models).

I love the teal flames. How did you do it?

I love the HH stuff - really good looking (even though I find the green a bit too...emerald green?). The new stuff, well...I can't stomach most of the new releases, so I'll poke in every now and then to see proper old school Death Guard

The flames I did with an airbrush. Started with an ash grey base, airbrushed a transition into a green/blue and then highlighted with a top-down coat of teal.


@Elbows, well you're in for a treat then because this post is mainly going to be a dump of all of my updated Death Guard with new photos from the light box I'm using now (I'll do Mortarion tomorrow). Honestly, I didn't like the Emerald green either so I've been systematically revisiting all my old models to give them a fresh new coat of muted green.

Really great stuff so far, i actually really love the boody death shroud, no grave Wardens?

More progress on the 40k front! Painting them up as the Pallid Hand Vectorium. Slowly. Taking each model one at a time, which is gonna make the entire project take a while since I have 24 Plague Marines to chew through... oh well, it's worth it!
