Hey all,

So I've only played X Wing about once or twice using a FA starter set, but this month there is going to be an event in the area for the game. The rules are simple; 1 Ship, maximum 35 points. for 1v1 games.

Last time the event was run, it was won by a Tie Defender, but I don't know the list details. However, I spoke to the guy who won, and he recommended either the Defender or a Protectorate Starfighter.

I quite like the look of the Starfighter, but I wondered what more experienced players think. Should I go with either of these options, or should I pick something else? What upgrades should I take, and what Pilots?

Preferably I'd like to pull extra cards from as few sets as possible, unless someone can suggest a good place to pick up single cards

Are there any restrictions on named pilots or uniques?

It's only 29 points, but Omega Leader + Juke + Comm Relay + Stealth Device when you know you're only facing a single ship would be nasty.

I'll look into that I believe that if you're under points, you will obtain some kind of advantage, but I'm also unsure what that advantage will be

Although seriously, I do prefer more speed and agility, but I reckon having more damage potential will help in a 1v1 game

A couple other ideas:

Darth Vader + X1 + ATC + Stealth Device + Lone Wolf - 35 points

Tomax bren + crack Shot + Agent Kallus + rebel Captive + Lightweight Frame - 32 points

vader with and auto-reroll a turn or a Bren with an auto focus to hit or evade, crack shot and you'll hand out a stress every turn they shoot at you.

Vader, VI, EU, Title, ATC 35pts

Well, there is always Echo w/ VI, Advanced Cloaking Device and Collision Detector.

Or

Maarek Stele (Defender) w/X7 title, Twin Ion Engines and VI.

Carnor Jax w/ Title, Autothrusters, Stealth Device, Push the Limit.

Use your actions to get close and stop them from using Focus or Evade tokens and lay some range 1 hate. A bit risky due to him being PS8 and not 9.

The Inquisitor w/ Title, Autothrusters, Push the Limit, Proton Rockets.

Good at range, and can throw out 5 dice at range 1.

On a side note, does anyone know a good place to pick up X Wing cards? I only have a couple of the ones listed here, such as Darth Vader, but it seems like most of these builds will require me to get a few blisters.

Yeah, there is a number of eBay sellers. I like one guy above the rest, but there are plenty of them out there.

There really isn't one. Most of the cards that you don't already have a dozen copies of cost almost as much as buying a whole ship, especially once you include shipping costs. Most of the time you might as well just buy the ship it comes in.

Yeah. Rather than pay almost 17$ for a copy of Autothrusters, I'd rather get another copy and a ship for 25$.

well you do get 2 x Thruster cards, yep it still sucks but maybe one day they'll fix the Viper

One can hope. 2020 will come around, after all.
