So... I just bought the torch and the blade and wondered what was the best strategy/growth path from that box-set.

The Malifaux Child is an awesome totem for her. Purifying Flame doesn't really add that much, but the Child summoning additional flame walls can help control the battlefield in a really big way.

You might find advice in a lot of places regarding the Papa-in-a-Box strategy to give Sonnia unending positive twists to damage flips; be aware that the recent errata got rid of this trick. Adding Papa Loco and Francisco can still be a strong addition though (Papa for the positives to damage, and Francisco for the +2 to her defense and will).

If you are looking to expand your collection your next purchase should be the Perdita crew box. This gives you Francisco (best bodyguard in Guild) and Papa Loco (great for buffing Sonnias damage). It also will give you another master and all the models you need to make a great crew for Perdita.

For new Sonnia players having Papa out of the box is a little dangerous because he can explode when killed and do some serious damage to anything around him. A good player will use this against you, so sometimes just focusing before your flameburst with Sonnia during the game can be almost as effective as a Papa Loco.
