Morning Dudes,

Just before Xmas I got roped in to do a "quick" display game on short notice down at my local Recon show in Pudsey.

The Spanish Civil War collection was on top of my piles of Really Useful Boxes and needed minimum prep time, so SCW it was, not a chore as it is one of the most fascinating periods of history.

I've included pics of the game along with a brief scenario and AAR. Any excuse to get the glorious Empress Miniatures stuff on the table.

These look great. I do SCW in 15mm so It's good to see someone else interested in the period.

I see you're using your own rules. What to the counters represent in the game?

Hi George,

SCW does seem to be getting more popular, a very interesting period.

Counter wise we use the wooden circles for ammunition use, the green are for hits on vehicles (you get a bonus for each 1), there are also black counters
for ammunition being moved (ie from depot to unit or between units) which aren't in the photos, love a good counter

Ammunition. The last time I saw something like that was in A World Aflame. Those were also for inter-war years. There must be something about that period and ammunition. I should read up on the subject more.

Setting the East Ablaze also has low ammo rules. It's more about the militia nature of the forces than the period.

Any read up on SCW will give you an idea of the ammunition difficulties faced, mostly but not exclusively on the Republican side.

At Jarama the British Battalion Machine Guns had the wrong ammunition sent to them and when it did arrive it was not belted up so that had to be done before the guns could get into action. Units could go into action with as little as five rounds a man.

Rules wise we are home brew but the addition of Ammo rules certainly makes you think about when and what to fire at.
