To make it short: I like Reiklanders in Mordheim, so i am going to do a Reiklanders Warband.

I hate their colors though and really like middenheim's.

So - how do you stand to warbands which are painted the "wrong" way?

Is it ok to paint em blue/white and still claim them as Reiklanders?

I already talked with my group and the really dont care at all how my guys colors are :-)

Another member of my group suggested I make up a story like "They come from reikland, but the work for some nobleman from middenheim (thus the colors). They still prefer to use long ranged combat over brute strenght, and the captain takes only recruits who underwent military training in reikland (so i will be using reikland-list)."

The Carroburg Greatswods wear scarlet and they are from Reikland.

As above though, paint them how you like.... there is something about Red and White though....

It really depends on the feel you're going for. As you mentioned, there are tons of ways to give some interesting background to your aesthetic choices, and blue Reiklanders is far from the weirdest thing I've seen in a game of Mordheim. If Blue and white gives you the feel you're going for, go for it. If it feels too Middenheimy, you could add other details to the models to distinguish them further from a typical Middenheim warband.

This is my experience from all the miniature games I've played for almost two decades: paint everything and anything exactly how you want it!

I've seen no exceptions to this experience.

It's Mordheim. It's not like they are State Troops marching in with matching uniforms. They are brigands, deserters, ne'er-do-wells, and knaves, who just happen to be from the Reikland. Hell, they might even be doing it deliberately to throw blame on those damn Middenheimers.
