I've been wondering how to use the Upsilon as something other than a Palp shuttle.

Perhaps with target sync and a couple of bombers/sfs/TAPs?

I'm also liking the idea of Stridan w/ coordinate, experimental interface, inspiring recruit and Fleet Officer along with PTL Carnor Jax or Soontir (who could push from the coordination and then reveal a green and do those shenanigans). With Omega Leader to round out the list perhaps? Or maybe a sf/striker instead? (I have no experience with them)...

Or maybe even swarm leader and hyperwave along with an FO mini swarm with comm relays?

It's not that I think Palpatine wouldn't be good. It's just the points for Palpatine on an Upsilon-class don't seem to allow for two other strong ships...

I had this crazy thought about running:

Starkiller Base Pilot
Collision Detector
Mara Jade
Hyperwave Comm Scanner
Ion Projector

Starkiller Base Pilot
Collision Detector
Ion Projector

Starkiller Base Pilot
Collision Detector
Ion Projector

100pts

personally if it was 2 points cheaper i could do some series ace stuff with it

Hammock for the decimator.

On serious note you can get a decent TL support with striden + systems officer. Or operation specialist. Double starkiller base pilots + patrol leader for a 40 heath large ship fest.

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case.

Palp shuttle with a 4-dice gun and white turns, optionally upgraded to Kylo Ren because his pilot ability is insane. Until Palpatine is nerfed/banned it's just too obvious an option to consider anything else.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Yeah but you're taking 10 points out of your typical palp list. 10 points less for you aces is a fair bit don't you think...?

I didn't say the new shuttle is an auto-include, just that if you're taking the new shuttle Palpatine is the obvious upgrade choice. All the various ideas about support crew that isn't Palpatine end up being nothing more than bad Palp shuttles.

Agreed. Maybe a Palp Swarm might be coming....

I think I kinda disagree with the idea of all the other options being just bad Palp shuttles... (or at least with the idea that given the points invested already, that adding another 8 is a good idea).

For example, Stridan w/ systems officer and pattern analyzer runs to 36 points. But it gives a free TL at R3 and can coordinate (also R3) after taking a hard 1 turn. Palpatine can only change 1 die, where this build can give rerolls and actions which could be more useful.

And it's 2 points cheaper than the cheapest possible Palp Upsilon, which is not insignificant. Combined with Carnor Jax and the Inquisitor (or other PTL aces) and you're potentially getting a lot more than changing 1 die result per turn. For the Jax/Inquisitor build, you're essentially getting PTL back, plus an action, on both ships with no risk of BMST.

I tend to agree that the fleet officer- experimental interface- inspiring recruit (7 point) combination that initially tickled my fancy probably isn't better (or at least enough better) than Palpatine for 1 point saved. But there are, IMHO, options that make sense.

Dormitz and 2 starkiller base pilots with FCS and HWCS can counter-deploy any list and throw a lot of red dice.

Yes that's the more practical way of doing but sadly it doesn't involve bombs !

Dormitz with HWCS and FCS, and two Glaive Squadron Pilots with x7 and Crackshot. i've been loving the alpha strike with this list, defenders are naturally tough, and its nice being able to put your opponent on the back foot as soon as the game starts
