I've got a whole bunch of Warlord Games Native American Woodland Indians in a cupboard ready to be painted, plenty of period Redcoats and French infantry, and plenty of miniatures that could pass for colonial American settlers.

So, I'm wondering if there is a ruleset for skirmish games for this period? Say 10-30 models a side for battles in the forests of North America.

I know that Osprey do a 7 years war game at skirmish level, but I think it's European in nature, and Warlord Games' Black Powder do a supplement for this war, but I'm not sure if it's skirmish or infantry marching in line.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for any replies.

I think Muskets & Tomahawks, by Studio Tomahawk, the people behind Saga, is exactly what you're after.

Black Powder is very definitely a ranked up regiments type of game.

Yeah, I checked Muskets & Tomahawks out and it looks good. I'm going to order it.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Full disclosure, I've never actually played it and know almost nothing about the period, but I've heard good things, and I like Saga.

Muskets and Tomahawks is great, we have had a few battles all to an enjoyable game and conclusion.

Saga is a bloody good game, so it being the same company fills me with confidence.

I can recommend Sharp Practice 2 from Too Fat Lardies. It covers this period and gets a lot of great reviews.

If you want an even smaller skirmish game (about 10 models max on each side or less), check out Ganesha Games' Song of Drums and Tomahawks.

You guys are going to bankrupt me with all these recommendations

I'll check it out. thanks.

Was also disappointed to discover that Warlord Games does the Woodland Indians box set in plastic!

The metal minis are very good, but give me plastic minis over metal any day of the week.

The Warlord plastics are the old Wargames Factory ones. Excellent figures.

I would suggest muskets and mohawks, now being published by Rebel Minis.

It is a Two hour Wargame Title and so a bit like marmte you wil either love the system or hate it.

However, as like all their rulesets, once you get used to them they are idela for quick pick up and play games, and usuually you can pplay through several scenarios in the one sitting

I want to suggest Donnybrook as well.
