Hello all!

For a while now I've been wanting to do some gritty skirmish style stuff with Age of sigmar .I like the openess of the system and think there is some really great potential for awesome INQ28 style modelling in there.
Now it seems I'm not alone as the great and mighty Ex profundis has kicked off AoS28 over on his blog!

So with that in mind, It seems a good idea to put all my efforts into one place for any one else who is interested in AoS skirmish and converting to have a flick through and giggle at.

To kick off we have the leader of my warband, Sir Bry'n the Blessed. Knight questor and hero of the free peoples beyond the great marsh.

Fluff.
Spoiler:
Sir bry'n took up the questing life after his first reforging. In his moment of death he saw the skies beyond the great northern marshes turn the colour of ashen bones, and from them came a shadow that enveloped the realm of beasts. He saw a great kingdom beneath the setting sun , sunken into the ancient swamp land, and in it he saw the last few remnants of a great and mighty people torn to shreds by some foul and unseen horror.
For many days he trekked alone through the great marshes, until he at last came upon the sight of his vision.A fishing village of rotten wood and broken marble, set upon the sunken roofs of grand and ancient buidling. At it's centre a great cathedral, whose copper dome rose from the water like the head of some terrible beast.
When he made his way into this small town he was greeted with awe and terror, for these people lived far beyond the frontier of sigmars new empire. They thought him a knight of old, as depicted in the crumbling frescoes of the sunken temple. They pleaded with him to slay a great serpent and terrible spawn that plagued them every day at the setting of the sun. He took their quest and was rowed deep into the flooded marsh lands, to a vast and ancient palace of white marble and tarnished gold.
Within lay a beast of chaos, a wretched thing half bird and half sea serpent. For 2 nights Sir Bry'n fought it, until at the rising of the third days sun, she plunged his blade into it's heart.
He returned to the town mortally wounded, waiting for his reforging as he slipped out of consciousness....
..But the reforging did not come. He awoke instead within the ancient temple, lying within a huge rowing boat ,freshly made and bearing many lanterns and banners.stripped of his armour and bearing for the first time in his life, a scar.
The townspeople had tended his wound, not knowing of sigmars magic and not wishing for their saviour to die, and in honour of his deeds they had painted for him a new heraldry, the vengeance of the rising sun, to commemorate his slaying of the demon thing that had brought them near to death."

And a wizard. Base model is the luther hex psyker, had to carve off his mask face and sculpt him a new one, plus re do some of his robes and staff head. Also grubbied him up with some liquid green stuff to stop him looking too slick in his journey through the great marsh.

That's all for now, I have some men at arms conversions on my desk and a special pet for Sir Bry'n, One that suits his rugged northern stylings.
Hope you all enjoy.

"There are many secrets that draw the lost and desperate to the realm of shadow.
Some come to hide, others to search for lost treasures in the sunken libraries and mist filled ruins of the great marshes...
Others however, Come for the shadow itself.
The wizard going by the name of Therin is one such traveller. For It is whispered that he seeks the lost secrets of the Mystaricum, The mythical temple of the order of the blind saint, Who in the age of chaos hid themselves through magyk and deceit deep within the mist seas of the shadow lands.
Others claim he is a spy of sigmar Sent to follow rumours and stories of a dark and terrible force gathering in the darkness, Or to find the fey Aelves and see what they are hiding beyond the eyes of curious gods.....
None truly know what great and forgotten secrets Therin seeks, All they know is that he has decided that the quest of Sir Bry'n the dawn knight coincides with his own, For now...."

Great stuff so far! Both models are full of character and have a nice grimy paint scheme to them. I think what I didn't like about AoS the most was the overly bright colours, clearly with a more realistic paintjob they look awesome

Really good bases as well btw, very swampy looking.

Quite a hefty update since I negelcted this thread in favour of the AoS28 facebook page,But no longer!
First up we have my converted witch hunter. Not a member of my knight questor warband, He is a free agent and will most luiely act as an NCP/random event in any games.

Spoiler:
The realm of shadow is not the most ideal place for those who follow Sigmar's light.
Faith can be misled by foul spirits, prayers become lost and trapped in the all encompassing fog, turning to foul whispers on the chill wind.
Those who come to the shrouded land following the light of the god king must be hard and brutal to survive, their faith must be unbreakable, for nowhere else save the dread realms of chaos will
they be so very isolated from all that is good.

Reinhold Heillbrand is one such traveller. A witch hunter by both trade and choice, Heillbrand is known as the scourge of spirits, For he makes it his lifes work to vanquish those who would invoke the dead and the chaotic to corrupt the rightful lands of the God king.

Heillbrand has come to the realm of shadow fresh from the purging of Excelsis, where the seers and secret merchants talk of ancient mysteries soon to be resolved and long lost truths to be rediscovered deep within the realm of shadow and mist. They speak of rites, both holy and corrupt, and a lost isle among the mist.
They speak of the Mystarikum.
To Heillbrand, they speak of corruption, And he would see these rumours quashed.

He will seek find the Mystarikum first, Before that misguided Stormcast and his peasant rabble, before the servants of the dark gods or the skulking Aelves...
He will find the Mystarikum and ensure it remains hidden.

I've finally got round to getting my many peasant followers of Sir Bry'n the dawn knight built and now that my dissertation is handed in i can look forward to painting them without guilt!
There's also a little rough lay out for something darker and more sinister that stalks the empty halls and crystal still marshes of the mystarikum....

And finally I've been playing around with some rough warscroll card idea,Mostly just for the core unit stats, But once i get hold of some good grain paper I can try out a laminate back for changing unit profiles.

I've also started a blog between now and the last post where all of this is being posted with more regularity and expanded upon, So if you're interested check it out!

Wow! Such characterful and gritty models! I particularly like the marsh bases, may I know what you used for the water effects and the shrubbery?
Also, those cards ooze Warhammerian character, grand stuff! Will be monitoring this thread.

Shrubbery is just army painter tufts with a bit of ink soaked into their base. The water effect is secret weapon wet effect mixed with a pale pigment.

Cheers for the feedback!

LOVE the war scroll cards. I read tarot and your drawings have more character than a lot of the decks that big-box stores are peddling. Hope to see some more of that, really fun work. Cheers.

Excellent looking models, the conversions are really characterful.

What you've done for the Warscrolls looks wicked too.

Cheers for the kind words!

The latest addition to the warband is Burik and Huund, Old guards of marshes end and now travelling squire and soldiery to the dawn knight.

Spoiler:
Marshes end is a quiet place.
Built atop the jutting spires of a sunken city of marble and copper, It rests on the
horizon like a crown of broken jetties and rotten wood houses.

To the south lies the great marsh, vast and featureless save for a few places where dark and terrible things still dwell, and around this sits the black wood, a forest of such depth that some say daylight has never touched its floor, and the ice and mist have become cruel....

To the north, the nameless sea.Calm and mist covered, it stretches to the grey horizon.
No one comes to marshes end save for those who seek the silence of the end of the world or the occasional restless revenant, risen from the cold mire.

Or rather, that's how it used to be.
As news of the Mystarikum has spread across the realms, So marshes end has found itself visited by many strangers, some mighty, some insidious....

It is Burik and his trusty guard dog Huund who had for many years kept the towns borders safe, watched the marshes mists for signs of foul spirits and patrolled to the edge of the blackwood
when news of nameless horrors spread.

Now Burik has taken up with the dawn knight, and has declared himself the Moonguard.
Where the dawn knight rests, Burik watches over him, acts as squire and for his part helps him in combat.

Accompanying him is Huund, Guard dog of the long since banished mayor of marshes end.A loyal and battle scarred beast, Huund has become a companion of all in the dawn knights company,
None more so than the wizard Therin, whom he takes great joy in
guarding, If only for the heat the wizard can conjure on cold nights.

And for a bit of fun I painted the best miniature games workshop have ever produced...

I love this miniature and could wax lyrical about it for hours i'm sure. Needless to say it was a joy to paint, Plus being so bright and small it gave me a good chance to mess around with my mini photography set up (read-smart phone lamp and piece of card.) to get a half way decent photo.

As always I've put a little bit more on my blog with a break down of model parts and a quick go through of painting.

All C&C welcome!

A small W.I.P update. I decided to break from humans and convert up something a little darker, weirder and more obviously related to the realm of shadow.
To that end I made this, The Wampyre.

Spoiler:
Not a true Vampire like those that serve the death god, The Wampyre is a revenant spirit bound to it's body by the living shadows of the mist shrouded realm.
These creatures are used to fight invaders and haunt those who stray too deeply into the mists of Ulgu.
Where a vampire can be refined and calm, Even good, A Wampyre is a creature without soul or warmth.
An automaton of the realms own temper, and it's strength and ferocity waxes and wanes with the ebb and flow of the dark lands energy.

This Wampyre has long since haunted the town of Marshes End, Lurking in the darkwood and draining those who lose their way of life and soul.
Now it follows the Dawn Knight to the Mystarikum, And as the Shadow realm fights to keep the secret isle hidden from these new invaders, So does the Wampyre grow ever more dangerous to it's unsuspecting quarry.

My latest addition to the warband .
Dainna the huntress.
She's built from a sister of silence body with perry footknight arms and head and an old bretonnian shield.
I'm really happy with the way she came out and might actually add a couple more similar characters to represent her hunting party.

As always I've got more of a breakdown over at http://mystarikum.blogspot.co.uk/

Spoiler:
Throughout the realms there are countless kingdoms.
Many are but ruins of their ancient glory, their power only just returning after
a thousand years under the heel of chaos.
Most are little more than dust and memory.

Yet there are a few that still stand strong....
Deep within the realm of beasts there stands Themyskyr, City of the hunters.
For countless centuries it has shone in gold and silver, Like a crown
Atop the very mountains of the far lands.

From this land Dainna has been sent, for a city as ancient as Themyskyr remembers much,
And whispers of things long since thought forgotten have reached it's gates.
Dainna is the huntress of the bronze tower, Chief warrior and champion of the city.
She is charged by the council of the city with the Destruction of all monsters and invaders that would see Themyskyr toppled,
And it is a task in which she has never faltered.
Her victories in war and the hunt are beyond count.
None has stood before her spear and lived, Be they warrior or beast.

Now she hunts a new quarry,
For the rumours say the ancient Mystarikum has revealed itself.
This has caused unrest in the chambers of Themyskyr.
No where else are the powers of the ancient cities as well remembered,
and no where else is the power and danger of the lost Mystarikum truly known.

Dainna will do what she has always done. She will hunt her prey, she will strike, and she will be victorious..
for Themyskyr.
