Subject: GW are seriously doing Adepticon this year.
Not only are GW 'supporting' Adepticon (no idea what the definition of supporting it actually is. Financial? Not calling it names? Some kind of ultimately needless official sanctioning? Who knows!)....but they're sending Design Studio staff to run seminars..
And said Seminars? Are going to include sneaky peaky at upcoming Studio, not Forgeworld goodies for the first time in a long, long time.
So, you Colonial Devils you, we'll be expecting our Glorious British Efforts at Weekenders and that to be reciprocated with top notch reporting from those of you attending.
Or there'll be consequences*
*Being British, consequences will largely take the form of witty snubs, drive-by mild disapprovals, and a withholding of new Red Dwarf episodes.

Fed up of Scalpers? But still want your Exclusives? Why not join us?
Ha! I'm on a waitlist to try and get in a painting seminar run by the well know Duncan. Would love to have gotten in but those spots filled up quick. Hell, all the 30k events sold out in literally 5 minutes of registration going live.

Is this a joke? First of Rules Writing? Like really? Then it's with Robbin Cruddace? Well this should be interesting.
Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.
Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

A full GW stand sounds like a good idea.
The last time that AdeptiCon was at the other hotel, they had 2 or 3 authors doing signings. They have had a Forge World booth for at least the last 3 years (I only stared going 3 years ago).
It's great that they are doing seminars, though. Too bad I couldn't get into one. Someone go and report back!

"Haha, but seriously folks, it's very simple. Just ignore the last 30 years of wargames rules, and pile as many special rules on as many miniatures as you can. The hard part is getting people to suck it down and call it 'character' and 'tactics' ...and that's not very hard."
But let's face it, any satire we can come up with can't hope to match the reality of GW - whether driven by studio or sales - giving a seminar on rules writing.

Part of me wishes I could be there to watch him when someone brings up the Tyranid Codex. I doubt he'll squirm, too professional for that, but I want to see some part of him die inside knowing that there are angry gamers with hundreds of scuttling miniatures that would love to feed him to them and that only a portion are arrayed before him.
Among other factions he's toyed with.

I mean, fifty bucks is on the line.
There's no rule that says I can't.

I've been calling that seminar 'the roast of Games Workshop' since I heard about it. Fun fact, it sold out faster than the VIG did.

Keep it up. The swamp of negativity got old in 2005 lol. There are people that still enjoy the hobby and what not and appreciate reading the positive stuff.

I'm not as cynical as HBMC (I think) but it's this kind of thing that's sending me that way.
GW's Adepticon seminars are a discussion point, which is what this board's about, but upbeat? Positive? It could be like Montgomery Burns holding a seminar about 'Your friend nuclear fission'. It's a thing. It's an unusual thing for modern GW to do, and it might be nice to watch a guy painting a mini, but what does it change? GW tell you what they're doing, but in person this time, and you either swoon in ecstacy or take them to task for the tyranid codex. It's neutral news, at best.
Call me when GW abandon sales-based rules writing and start playtesting. I'll even waive 'across the board price drops'. Then we'll talk about 'upbeat'.

It's a very positive step for me because these seminars look awesome! I would love to attend any one of them. Can't wait to hear the reports from them and envy everyone who gets to go.
Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Do you complain to news services when you read an article you know you're not going to agree with?

Y'know, because there's only really one objective, acceptable way to respond to this news. Please report any other forms of response to your local inquisitor.
Skepticism aside, at least it's cool to see them participating more in the community in some fashion. Yeah, they probably won't address meta issues (but when have they ever?) but at least they're willing to interact more.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

I'd encourage a constructuve dialogue there. Not asking soft or easy questions, but avoiding rhetorical and hyperbolic.
I agree. You know there will be some of those questions though. And I hope someone brings a camera in to record it. Even a taperecorder so we can get actual reported reasoning or explainations for somethings they did to push design.
I may be bitter about my dinosaurlocust, but I'm still interested to listen.

Now I would get a Warhammer Twitch subscription if they showed the that.
