Pestilent Plague Marine with Blight Grenade

Cork, Ireland

Spoiler:
This is a story based on my custom chapter of Space Marines that I write for in the Crusade of Fury 2. It is Celtic themed and I wanted to write about them from outside CoF2 for quite a while.

NOTE: Combat scenes and character building is where I tend to fail, this "Series" will be me attempting to improve in these areas

Nyle found himself sludging through the fetid mud that acted as a path back through the desolate village he considered home. Everyone else had evacuated in a hurry, hell he had too but he forgot Gilda, one of his few possessions that he considered even remotely valuable. Having made sure Cedric and Edna were safe Nyle rushed back through the sinking mud and hollow shacks to his shack that he had lived in his whole life. Nyle popped his head in and surveyed his old dwelling “No Purple Giants” Nyle thought to himself as he rummaged through the window around the back of the house. Gilda as usual sat by the dying flame near the stove covered in her own feces with a slight grin her face. Nyle let out a sigh of relief and kicked the pig prompting it to stand, before he lifted it under his arm and took off out again, it is not wise to disobey the Purple Giants.

Talfryn Siors had sounded the evacuation of the futile village a mere hour ago. The Eldar made planetfall under the shroud of dusk and have been terrorizing various rural areas for an hour or two at least. Anticipating an attack here, Chapter Master Baltair Seoc sent Talfryn and the fourth pack to lay an ambush for the heinous xenos.

“Ardan you cover the flanks, Faolan you cover the rear. We push deep and hard ensuring that these pathetic Eldar feel the wrath of the Emperor’s Angels of Death”

Talfryn’s massive power axe, Moralltach, hummed dimly as the fourth pack stood vigil, eagerly awaiting to defend their home world, eagerly awaiting to smite the insidious Eldar that were insistent on raiding those under the Emperor Hound’s protection.Moralltach humming all the while, then suddenly a scream set the village into a blinding light of fire and commotion. Ravagers and raiders flooded the sky as kabalite warriors and Khymeras began to land eager to sate their bloodlust and their empty cargo holds. Talfryn rose and turned to his restless brothers

“For Aspen Brothers ! For the Emperor !”

They entered a scene of chaos and carnage, beams of las fire lashed out at the approaching craft sending the fleet scattering, particularly the troop transports who hadn't a chance to drop down their eager compatriots.. Poisoned shards showered the village while Talfyn eagerly engaged the encroaching horde of Khymeras, slaughter them in droves. Large cleaves sent many of the vicious demon dogs crashing, often in pieces across the battlefield. A shot of a lascannon pierced a circling aircraft downing a particularly lavish ravager sending it spiralling towards the mouth of the village, right towards Talfryn, His command was swift and clear

“ Disperse ! ”

Honor Guard Madra was sent sprawling for the nearest source of cover as the ravager nose dived right up through the center of the besieged village sending some tactical marines flying. Recovering, Talfryn made quick work of any arrogant eldar foolish enough to stay in close proximity to the savage marine, Ardan Rymus, Talfryn’s captain quickly ushered his honour guard to cover the flanks as they pushed further into the Dark Eldar’s already pressed lines which quickly turned into a fighting retreat with Talfryn piercing through the Eldar ranks leaving Ardan, Faolan and others to finish off any Xenos surround them. Seeing the tide turn tactical and assault marines alike began to reinforce the push and quickly put the Eldar to flight. Just as a bloodsoaked Talfryn was about to run down the nimble Eldar when a call came in over the vox

“My Alpha, Two Incubi and a high ranking member of the strike force are assaulting our position requesting support immediately !”

“Feth, All squads do not engage repeat all squads DO NOT ENGAGE !”

Rushing back over the corpses that were now strewn across the battlefield Honour Guard Madra returned to a scene of crimson. The incubi were making quick work of whatever assault marine were foolish enough to get in reach of their mighty Klaives, dodging around the hacking marines and punishing them in one foul, precise swing. A third Eldar armed with a splinter pistol and a wicked power sword of Eldar design.

“Faolan, Emyr take that one, Ardan you’re with me”

The veteran marines clashed with the warriors of Khaine parrying and striking but were no match for the twin masters of the klaive. Talfryn made a risky maneuver to break the stalemate, charging the towering xenos Talfryn adjusted his course slightly to the left which luckily was where the Incubus sidestepped sending the two warriors crashing to the ground. Ardan quickly took advantage and drove his power sword through the skull of the struggling Eldar. Arising to assist their hard pressed brother’s Faolan and Emyr, Honour Guard Madra slowly formed a ring around the lone Incubus who began to twirl his Klaive keeping the marines at bay. Emyr was the first to approach, raising his storm shield and bashing at the steel tornado that swirling before his very eyes. The Incubus was stopped in his tracks and the Angels of Death moved in yet the Incubus was not done and still managed to parry a series of blows and struck out at his foes in one last desperate overarching slam into Talfryn who just managed to redirect the force of the blow. The lone Eldar had vanished, no doubt fled during the fight. Talfryn turned to his jaded brothers

“Ardan, my old friend, have a landspeeder sweep for that lone Eldar, I suspect that he may have information, after you are done with that return to me, we are long due a drink”

Ardan grinned and nodded “One landspeeder coming right up”

“Faolan get our injured brothers onto the thunderhawks and back to Morga Dun”
“Aye sir, i’ll see it done”

This left Emyr and Talfryn alone who made his way towards his new brother.

“You did well brother, now all ye need is a proper beard and you’ll be a proper Emperor’s Hound !”

Emyr smiled but was quick to correct his Alpha

“Actually Talfryn my beard tends to itch, a lot. I think i’ll remain clean shaven for now”

Feigning disappointment Talfryn shrugged “ As long as you down our enemies by the hundreds Emyr you can groom yourself however you damn well please”

The two marines shared a chuckle before returning their attention to the charred village that lies in their wake. Fields once tended to and harvested by hardworking villagers now lied charred and burning. White washed, thatched houses that once acted as the backbone of rural societies now lied destroyed and bloodied. Entire communities that had lived in the same spot for generations now face starvation and perhaps extermination if the Eldar are not driven out soon. The Eldar kicked the Hounds where it hurts, and Aspen is feeling it. Emyr turned to his Alpha seeking answers that neither marine possessed

“Think Aspen can recover from such a large scale and daring raid ?”

Talfryn did not answer right away, he pondered considering what to say “Yes, it will, in time. Aspen is fractured by nature however and is not as advanced as most of the Imperium. So yes it will recover but not as easily as we’d like”

Ardan returned to break the lingering silence “Two landspeeders will be combing the nearby woods and the surrounding area, they’ll find that cur soon enough”

The old dog grinned “Good, good. Now I believed I promised you all a drink …..”
