Welcome to my Bolt Action project log!

I've been playing table top games for years, mainly 40k, and I recently decided to dive in to Bolt Action. I got my hands on the Band of Brothers starter kit and have begun assembling the minis starting with the German grenadiers. I got this set not only because it was a good deal, but because I don't know of any Bolt Action players in my area (though the local game store tells me they have a few players who show up now and again). For now I have a friend or two who want to give the game a go once I have everything put together.

I'll be using this thread to catalogue my progress as I build this kit and a gaming table themed around a rural village or farm. I've ordered a few odds and ends for the project and found a store that has a great selection of miniature scenery so I'll be putting this together over the next month or so. I plan to expand my respective Wehrmacht and Airborne forces as well, possibly even adding in some British elements later on.

Here is where we are at as of today:

So far I am mostly enjoying putting the Warlord miniatures together. They are, however, a bit lacking in terms of variety and some of the arms are a bit frustrating to work with. Flash lines weren't too bad overall and the plastic is hard enough to prevent the weapon barrels from warping which I was worried about. We'll see how I feel about these minis after I build the remaining 29 troops and the Sdkfz.

If anyone who checks out my thread lives in or around the St. Paul, Minnesota area please feel free to PM me or leave a reply as I would be happy to set up a game sometime!

Thanks for droppin' in!

Looking like a good start chap. Be sure to post the airborne up and what you think about those minis as haven't got any yet.

Will do xKillGorex. I'm looking forward to putting them together!

Progress has been slow between work and some unhealthy Fallout 4 related binge sessions. I'm hoping I get bored with it soon, but as of right now my "James Bond in a nuclear wasteland" gig has really got me in a rough spot. And with Mass Effect Andromeda right around the corner I need to get this project moving before my motivation really takes a dive. I should also mention that I just got a new PC the other day...so a Civ VI session is highly probable. All that said, I got a nice little present in the mail the other day that is going to be a great addition to the game table aspect of this project.

It isn't everything I will need, but it is a start. The remaining supplies should be easy to find at my local game shop. For now I've settled on a 4'x4' table with a ruined farmhouse set up with defences on one half and some walls on the other half to create a nice little attacker-defender scenario. I'm going to draw up some rough designs when I have time to kill at work and once I'm satisfied with those I'll snag the rest of the supplies I will need.

If you have read this far, please pray for a speedy recovery from my gaming addiction. It's bad folks...

Ha I hear you on the gaming, I have a big fear that progress on my bolt action us will cease when ghost recon is out in a few weeks.

The good news is that Bolt Action is a great gateway game to learn miniatures war games. Being based on a more cinematic World War II makes it pretty easy for anyone to create a picture in their mind's eye. The rules are pretty simple. I especially find it easy to for new players as you can tell them their are literally only six actions a unit can perform and they are all on the Order Die. I also like the fact you can pretty much mirror any nation with another so if you know your force you know your opponent's which is good for teacher as it is harder to forget anything and good for the novice as they can watch how you use your units and learn how they should use theirs.

If you have family or friends with even the slightest inking of gaming interest you can teach them pretty fast. I must have taught half a dozen people how to play Bolt Action at this point and some of them never even knew miniatures war games were a thing.
