I may as well start with this image

Does anybody know of any other army boxes that GW produced around this era? I know of the Dark Elf one. But other than that I'm still hunting down the others. Oh and the Orc & Goblin one.

These army boxes are from 1995/1996. The Warmaster box is much later - these were still sold in GW stores around 2001-2002. I believe there were 4 of them (Undead, Dwarfs, High Elves and one other).

Yeah it was a boxed army like the ones shown above. It had... a sorcerer of some kind, a dreadnought, the 10-man metal CSM squad, I think a terminator squad, I'm not sure what else honestly,

Ye these are the other ones I'm really trying to find out about. Find out about and buy :p

How come more people don't love these boxes? Maybe its just people don't talk about it as much.

There was a Dark Eldar box. Had a Lord, 5 Incubi, Wych Squad, 2 Warrior squads, a Warp Beast pack, a Talos, Ravager and one or two Raiders.

Space Wolves. Eldar. Skaven, Chaos, Empire, and Orks, and orks and goblins... There is a wood elf, and dwarf army, as well. This was around the time that they started getting their plastics production up to speed.

They started them at the midrange of 2d edition 40K, and continued till the next two years, where they changed the box formats, from those solid colors- to the brown borders...

People honestly loved them for 2d edition, but they were just a starter. Some of the boxes had crap choices, and didn't fit the cookie cutter army lists that were out there.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Argh nice, so maybe dam boxes then. Humm I've never seen seen half of these boxes and I've been looking for them for the last 2 years

I guess that is similar to now days tbf, the start collecting are currently based on what is best in the game -> sells more. I'm much of a lore kind of guy, I don't pay too much attention to the rules.

I wonder when they stopped putting retail boxes in the army boxes, thats when I stopped trying to collect them :(

The further down the rabbit hole you go, the more obscure things you find like:

Love it! Stuff from that period will always be what 40k is about to me. Rose tinted glasses and all that I guess but it was just so much cooler.

It was a different time.
This was pre-plastics, and the castings were on par with the game. Not like later with the skully skull skulls, and the over the top detail infested stuff like now. The books, the figures, the character were all rough, but the soul of the game was right there in it.

Some of the things in that Strike Force are plastic, like the umm... the uhh... back... packs?

There was an Eldar one. Can't for the life of me remember what was in it and I can't find a picture of it either.

The terminators, and the bolter-carrying marines in the devastator squad, may be plastic.

That Space Marine Strike Force really spans the range of 2nd edition; the Captain was released in 1990 for 1st edition (as were the Devastators and perhaps the tactical squad), the dreadnought first appeared in that style when 2nd edition was released, and those scouts were nearly the last things released for Marines in 2nd edition.

I've got the complete contents of the Devastators and Imperial Guard box sets, but not the actual boxes.

That Eldar Box looks to be a special release for 3rd Ed Eldar, specifically the sub-Codex that had rules for the various specific Craftworlds.

Not the 2nd Ed Eldar army box I'm afraid.

Mid 2nd ed 40k-3rd ed days for the 40kays stuff. Box logos are the giveaway on those. Makes the fantasy ones around 5th ed ... Certainly I've got some of the HE stuff from those days.

I still have a lot of my eldar from 3rd ed and earlier, but there's no real love for the spazz marines of 2nd ed. Unless you were a kid in those days, I guess (I was in my mid-late 20s back then).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

H.B.M.C. is right. In 3rd ed, GW released Codex: Craftworlds which let you run Altaitoc, Biel-tan, Iyanden, Saim-hann, and Ulthwe. What I recall, Biel-tan could take Aspect Warriors as Troop choices. Ulthwe's 1st two Guardian units were "professionals" and so got +1 BS or WS (player's choice). Also, Ulthwe was the only craftworld which could take a Seer Council. IIRC, Ulthwe was limited on the number of Aspect Warriors they could field. There were similar special rules for the other craftworld, but since Ulthwe the one I starting to build back then, only Ulthwe really stuck. {Never finished and eventually sold it off.}

Anyway, GW briefly sold starter armies for the Codex: Craftworlds book like the Ulthwe one hutber posted above.

Argh o man, of course it was the special ed boxes. I hadn't considered that they would have only come out with craftworld. This must be why I'm struggling to find it anywhere.
