I've been eyeing up the Lost and the Damned army recently, and I had some questions from those who know more than I:

The Lost and the Damned was introduced as part of the EoT campaign. Do you think the same fate will fall upon this list as the SoC armies (not official in GW tourneys)?

What are your thoughts on the power-level of the LatD, compared to Slaanesh Chaos, vanilla marines, and Guard?

What parts of the list are most competative (so that I can avoid/use what I need so that the list is the right 'power')?

What is the best way to make use of a Keeper of Secrets in a LatD army? I am torn between including an Aspiring Champion in my Mutant units, or putting one on a Bike and rolling around with the Hounds.

Do you enjoy playing with/against LatD; why or why not?

Thank you for any responses, trying to avoid building another CoS that everyone hates - lol!

What's with the recent popularity of the LatD? I remember for the first year or so since it came out I was one of perhaps 2-3 people on Dakka to play them(and the only person at the three stores I frequent).

Anyway, I love playing my LatD(I'm tempted to do a second Force Org chart just to do more conversions). The list is far from the most competative out there, but some of the better units I've found are small units of Traitors with Lascannon/Plasmagun and large squads of Plague Zombies(or really any mutants). Any of the other three lists(Emp's Children, 'Nilla Marines, or IG) easily outclass the LatD. If you're just looking for a powerful army, stick with them. If you want a modeller's/converter's dream, definitely do the LatD.

I'd think the best way for a Keeper is to put your possessed Champ(since a bike will do nothing as you can only attach Champs to Traitors or Mutants) in a unit of Traitors mounted in a Chimera(w/ Extra Armor and Smoke, of course) or an allied Chaos Marine Squad with Champ in a Rhino(w/ Smoke and Extra Armor) to get the model as close as possible quickly.

LatD?
In my opinion one of the strongest, if not THE strongest, list out there.

It has cheese which the unobservant do not see.

HQ: Aspiring champions all the way. Put them in mutant squads, and you have a 24 ish wound general that can't be picked out easily. Power fist, bolt pistol, mutation, personal icon, spiky bits and mark of undivided (ld 10 with a re-roll mutants.. yes please).

EL: 3 obliterators. Add a cubic butt ton of firepower to the list.

TR: 2 units of 24 ish bloated mutants combined with the AC above means you have mass and survivability. Give the boss a power fist for 4 str 6 attacks as well, 5 on the charge.
2 units of 5 traitors with autocannons gives you some firepower and infiltration to take table quarters. Their low points value means you don't care about them and their autocannon means they can't be ignored.
2 units of 5 CSM with tankhunter and a lascannon to provide a little more anti armor.

FA: Hounds give a turn 2 charge and can be character assassins. Furies are great for popping up where you need them and getting a good assault. Rough Riders do the same thing as hounds, but more better on the charge. (20 str 5 I5 attacks on the charge for 110 points?)

HS: 5 chaos spawn just to scare people (they keep your obliterators alive).
2 pieplates of your choice. I favor 2 Leman Russes, but YMMV.

A list like the above has 5 lascannons (2 at str 10), 2 autocannons, and 2 pieplates. That's a good amount of shooting, especially when you figure that the obliterators can change their configuration depending on the opponent.

Your HtH troops will rarely be outnumbered and get a re-roll. You have 13 scoring units which is hard to whittle down. You have redundancy within the list, so multiple units can accomplish the same objective. Plenty of fast movers (hounds, rough riders, and/or Furies) can get turn 2 charges to stop enemy infantry shooting.

As far as playing against, most people don't notice the cheese because there's nothing obvious. LatD can outshoot Iron Warriors, out assault blood angels, and outmaneuver alaitoc. Probably the best army there is in the hands of a competent general.

As far as greater demons go, leave them at home.  You don't need them, and they're a waste of points in the A/C and what the A/C does for the mutant squads.

find one of my lists and run wild with it..... Aspiring champions suck.... the DP, GD combo works the best... throw in three basilisks, 3 guard squads, 2 marine squads, one with MOCU and a champ with chains, and 2 squads of bloodletters.... and not only do you have a deamon bomb army, but also a SAFH

Angron- crushing the theme and fluff of armies one horde at a time.

*Yes, already banned in the UK when it recently dropped EOT.

*LATD are the "Go to" list for converters and creators of variant armies.  They have the ability to access a wide variety of vehicles and squads, which can represent many things. LATD has been used for genestealer lists, AM lists and other lists due to this variety.

*Personally I like to think of it more akin to a demon world army.  The various levels of muties and hounds represent your generic lighter strength demons, with conventional demon packs for the "elite" demons.  Modelled properly you could have an entire force of demons (the lighter squads able to summon the elite demons) and demonic engines.

I'm loving the LatD list more and more everytime. I have done about 7 diffrent line-ups and I'm reading other set-ups that are diffrent from mine. This list is so flexable. Need it fast, done. Need power, done. Need numbers, done x2.

I like the idea of an all traitor army, not the most Ld friendly army. ;~)

I have played a game or two with a squad of Chaos Spawn and they can do alot.

Anywho...

Lost and the Darned = Lots of fun and potental!
