I found out there's a book shop here in Delhi that will bind books in leather and I'm thinking of doing some of my RT era books.
Anyone ever done it, any thoughts?

No I haven't but depending on the cost, it might be something worth looking to. May I ask what kind of price he is asking for that service?

Around $10 a book, granted this is in India.
I've heard of people having their comic collections bound in the US but never tried it.

I saw a chap in the swap shop that was selling a leather bound RT rulebook and others. It looked looked really nice and I was sorely tempted but the price was high for what was a standard rulebook.
Obviously taking advantage of cheap Indian labour is good if you can access it. There's some really skilled craftsmen there.
And at $10 a book it's a good idea, especially as the already questionable binding on. RT books is probably taking a pounding in the Indian humidity/heat/pollution.

10 bucks a book? Hell I would go for it. Use a old codex or something to test out his work and see what its like before moving onto the Slaves to Darkness and First book of the astronomican.

You'll need to be careful.
In order to prepare the spine, it's likely they'll have to shave the side of the pages down.
Depending on the state of the pages themselves, that could go quite wrong, and lead to them being mangled.
I'd suggest first perhaps picking up a cheapy copy online, and giving it a whirl with that. If you're happy with the result, then go for it. But don't risk your treasures themselves!

I agree with this. Do something you don't mind losing first. And then go to town.
Communication is key, especially if there is a narrow margin before the words and letters start. I have a 4th edition HackMaster rulebook and a GM guide that I had spiral bound. They were paper back and started falling apart from over use. I talked to the guy about not losing the words and he did an excellent job chopping off the spine and leaving just enough room for the holes for the spirals.
No regrets here! I would have loved to have spent $10 each to make them leather bound!

Nothing like a professional rebinding like that, but I do the opposite. I'll take a new rulebook down to fedex/Kinko's and have the spine cut off and the book coil bound so that it lays flat or you can turn it to any page and leave it there. Incredibly handy, and only costs about $6. You can also have multiple books bound together that way, or remove and add pages. I had all the Warmachine MK1 rules bound together, and I had the Mortals, Deamons and Warriors of Chaos all bound together with a few pages from Storm of Chaos back during 6th ed WHFB. Very handy for gaming, not so much for restoring collectors books

That's an incredibly cheap price. I have been looking to get my Necromunda books rebound with a luxury finish on them and it looks like it will be very expensive (but also worth it). $10 a book seems like a steal.

Seems almost too cheap...

This is what I do for some of my old BT books that are absolutley falling appart. Rebinding seems nice, but coil binding is cheap and it's nice the way the pages lay flat. A buddy of mine at a printing shop did the same for some PDF rulebooks I bought. They are wonderful!

At Delhi prices you would be silly not too. Not only would you be saving the quality of the pages you will be increasing its value more than what you paid. I think you should hold onto your collection, but if you went to some wargames trade fair for example in the UK or USA someone would pay top dollar for a leather bound copy. Go for it!
