Just starting out and am between the Yu Jing Starter Pack and the Red Veil Box. Haven't played any or watched any games IRL, but am looking forward to soon. I am basically starting from scratch but have the PDF manuals needed and have watched a TON of Youtubes.

I can tell you have zero interest in HaqqIslam army and would likely sell the miniatures to fund more Ju-Ying models.

Any benefit of the Starter Box over the Red Veil models for a newbie? I like the Ninja model in Red Veil, but understand that the weapon she has is not something that is "have to have". I'm not at the point where I really care about "exclusive" models or anything like that.

I also really like the Wu Ming Assault Corps models and would probably need a hacker type model and a long range sniper type model. Would that be a good way to round things out to get started?

Well currently the two Yu Jing starters available are both Sectorials, which are specialized armies within factions that they tend to only encourage for advanced players. Next month should (hopefully) see the release of the YuJing half of Red Veil on its own.

Personally, I'd suggest going for Red Veil, especially if you can either find someone to purchase the Haqqislam half off of you. It'll come with dice, templates, some starting tokens, terrain, and a quickstart rules book that'll ease you into playing. It's simply a better value, and probably an easier base to build off of for later.

The Ninja with Tacticool bow also represents the Killer Hacker profile, which is pretty good.

You should have no trouble selling the Haqq half of Red Veil. I would recommend getting Red Veil instead of the Yu Jing starter.

If you like Wu Ming, get 'em. As noted by Loki, the ninja can proxy as a hacker, or any other ninja, really. I've seen a variety of recommendations for expanding the Yu Jing. The Su Jian seems a popular choice.

This would be the Su Jian and Wu Ming box and the Yu Jing Starter. Some of the models are used as proxies, but that's just fine. This is a very playable 300 point list in ITS scenarios ( ITS is the official tournament system) and for other play.
