I bought a older star frontiers RPG a few years back and found 40k miniatures in the box set that had nothing to do with the game.

What is some of the strangest things you found??

Bought a used copy of axis and allies at a garage sale which I later found out had come complete with a mummified dead mouse inside. That was kinda gross.

Wasn't a board game but I went to a garage sale a few years back and purchased a half built RC model with the box and a few extra boxes with mixed RC gear because the owner couldn't remember what went with what.
Found
*A mummified rat - not bandaged, just completely dried out.
*Original TMNT comics, sadly issues 5-12 rather than the almighty issue #1, still, massive Turtles fan so I got em framed.
*Zippo lighter.
*Metal shangeye/slingshot.
Cool stuff but not enough servos for all the plane's mobile flaps. Win some, lose some.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

Got a copy of 2nd Ed Space Hulk.

Turns out it was in French. Did not notice that when I paid for it. Luckily the guy included a CD which contained PDFs of every single Space Hulk article ever written for Citadel Journal and WD.

Huh that is odd.

Over here there's a store called The Works publisher outlet

http://www.theworks.co.uk/?gclid=CI2V2r70m9ICFbEV0wodCuIM8g

who mainly deal in books but also shift games, crafts stuff and so forth.

All at a big discount -- think it's repossessed or bankrupt stock or so forth.

They were also selling french editions of 2nd edition Space Hulk wwaayy back.

All the local gamers -- then GW staff included -- bought loads of them .

On topic :

I bought a 2nd hand copy of Vampire : The Masq RPG years ago, and stuck it on the shelf for use as/when.

Picked it up 2 or 3 years later and whilst flicking through found a hand written letter from a woman writing to, it seemed, her husband/boyfriend explaining why she'd been unfaithful and didn't really love him anymore and hadn't for some time.

That was a weirdly voyeuristic and uncomfortable glimpse into the lives of people who one assumes I don't and never will know.

I actually burnt the letter , just in case really, having seen far too many farces revolving around misunderstood letters and the like.

mentioned this to another friend a few years after the fact and he gave me a bit of a funny look and asked me a few questions about it.. seemed to know some of the details without being asked.. he knew the people...

.. and had in fact been playing in the campaign that the letter had in fact been a prop for

Not really weird, but picking up used RPG books and boxed sets I tend to find people's old character sheets and campaign notes.

Except for the occassional part of other games nothing spectacular (or gross). I often end up with some extra when winning a 'warhammer lot' on Ebay UK - including cards (2nd ed 40k, 4th WFB, Epic etc) and random metal figures of unknown origin.

Knowing that game I would have automatically assumed it was a prop rather than erring on the side of caution.

I have found desicated and stale food in lots I have brought.

Chunks of bagette, dried chilli/mince/stew covering books and sprue.

Cat sick and hairballs on some sprues I brought from Ebay, those went straight into a bucket of bleach. Couldn't give bad feedback though as they were an absolute steal!

I went into a used video game shop to buy a copy of the PS3 Duke Nuke'm game (don't judge, it was $6). Instead of Duke, I had some WWII combat game (can't remember title). Pretty good game. Next time I was in town I splurged another $6 to get the Duke I wanted.

Personally, I'd view the cat sick as a hidden extra cost. There's always time and labour spent in removing unwanted material: glue... paint... feline ejecta...

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

I've has a couple;

I bought a few eBay lots of un-used Epic plastic infantry sets, one IG, One SM and one Ork - all described. I paid a fair amount for each (£25-£35) but wanted to start fresh armies for each so what the heck. Each came with the original receipt and a pile of metal Epic Tank models as well - so basically an army in each. The Ork one amongst other things had 10 of the original Killer Kan models which sell for like a tenner each. So a brilliant buy but the weird thing was each box had the original receipt in it so the seller can of ben unaware of everything in each to list it fully?!?

The second thing I got recently was a copy of original Heroquest, sold cheap as it was incomplete; the GM screen was missing. No big deal as I just wanted to play with my daughter but on opening the box and lifting the plastic tray lining it there it was underneath. Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Well, I have had nothing quite so bad as these, but my own raised an eyebrow or two in surprise.

buying a used copy of Advanced Heroquest from my local Oxfam shop and I found, hidden amongst the plastic skaven (including some white plastic ones with separate heads) a bag of metal Skaven models, all Oldhammer. Amongst them where a few Clanrats, Plague Monks, Stormvermin, Two first edition Ratogres, a first edition Assassin, two Grey Seers with Warplock Pistols, a special character Greyseer from one of the White Dwarf campaigns, and most notably of all a Praznagar the Prince of Pain model!
All this for a tenner!

Another time I was in my local GW when a lady came in. She had some of her sons old stuff an wanted rid of it. the manager directed her to one of the local clubs, but before she went I mentioned my interest and gave her my number. A few weeks/month later and I got a text: "Are you still interested in the models".
Yes I commented and we agreed to meet outside the GW. when i asked how much she wanted (me being young back then and on a limited pocket money budget) she said she didnt want anything.
And so did I acquire three Citadel boxes filled with old models. I cannot remember everything, but there where about 20 old Graveguard (or something along those lines) in one of the boxes, along with Skaven giant rats, old plastic skeletons and the like. I was really grateful, as one can imagine.

Very nice at the time. Warhammer Regiments - 10 of each race shown, so 60 miniatures for £9.99.

Bought the DOOM board game used - opened but unplayed. Going through it, I found an old lead Reaper DOOM "Marine with Shotgun" model (primed gray).
Never played the game. Eventually sold it. Probably at a minor loss.
Later sold the Marine for $70 or so on Feebay.

Just remembered I got a box of old minis from a friend of my mother's who was giving them away. I knew there was a 2nd Ed Predator in there, and some random stuff. Didn't bother opening it for over a year. When I finally did found all the original 2nd Ed Legion of the Damned minis (minus the Ltd Ed. Sergeant, sadly). Pretty happy with that.

Bought a used copy of Chrono Trigger for my SNES a while back. Always loved that game, and lost my copy many many moons ago.

Was shocked that New Game+ was not activated. It doesn't deactivate even if you delete all the saved games.

I know it's not tabletop gaming, but it was a game, and it was weird.

Got a box of assorted gaming minis from a friend. It included three Rogue Trader dreadnoughts, a collection of WH40k Epic models, (including a Titan that I sitll have), and a dozen Space Marines from second ed and older. All in all, a pretty sweet haul. Most of it's sold now, but the dreads are still in my collection, along with half a dozen of the Dreamblade minis, which made great DE conversions.

I once bought a second hand 2nd hand Ultramarines codex and a Raymond E Feist book from a local book store.

At the time I was studying plant structures in Biology and pressing leaves using books. Coincidentally I found some leaves inside both books and brought them into my class.

Turned out it was Cannabis. Queue one awkward phonecall home to the parents . . . . . . .

Well, I guess even stoner potheads can enjoy Feist.
Must admit he's one of my favorite authors, and it should disappoint me that someone sullied the pages of his book in such a way but...I'm trying to mellow in my old age.
