An unknown location in the Warp

Ahoy fine Dakka denizens! It has been many a year since my last post on this fine forum and now it is time once more.

First up, Fluffwall!

This time I bring with me word from the faraway planet of Vinrot in the southern reaches of the Segmentum Tempestus, mere lightyears from the edge of Imperial Space.
Vinrot is a Shrine world and the primary Imperial hub of the unusually peaceful Dreiachter System (more of this and a map will be uploaded here soon..) which is a safe distance to the Eye and the Maelstrom as well as encroaching Tyranid Hive Fleets and thus a relatively safe space in the Imperium.

Vinrot is ruled by a council of the Ecclesiarchy under an Arch Priest, elected from the eldest of the faithful on the planet. It includes three large hive cities and many shrines, monasteries, convents of the Adeptus Sororitas and a few manufactorums. The population are made up of mostly faithful and a working class, producing large amounts of ship parts for the Sector's Battlefleet as well as raw materials for export, sourced from the large forest areas of the planet...

Also noted have been strange occurences around holy sites, where entire defense bastions made way for smouldering craterscapes.. in the hives there have been large scale riots and street warfare between elements of the Planetart defense force who overnight declared itself free of imperial jurisdiction and attacked and burned Sororita shrines and quarters.. an odd scent is in the air, like oily copper in the vast mudflats and marshes of the northern continent, where the labour camps lay, unforseen occurrences transpire...

(to be continued)

Starting the pictures with some old ones. Here we have an anti-armour squad of the Reserve Guard (this planet has no dedicated Imperial Guard regiments as the Ecclesiarchy is in charge of defense and militarization utilising its chamber militant of the Sisters, and thus only holds three relatively small regiments of quasi-Guard as a reserve).
Note the squad's sergeant who appears to have been in communion with the Ruinous Powers already, despite less than a year having passed since the first Bearer pilgrims have begun their work. One arm has mutated and he appears to have developed an enjoyment of carnivourism.

Next is a picture of a Sentinel of the Guard's dedicated Reconnaissance Company, with standard equipment. No warp tainting to be observed.. yet.

Hey! Thank you kindly, fine Dakkaite! I got the wings from a friend who plays Tyranids and I attempted to make them work for a warp-mutated Sorceror, turned out alright! Now if only I could make him stand on his flying base without needing blu-tac to hold him in place....
I also really enjoy your Khorne converted army, my friend. Grand stuff there.
For the Ruinous powers!!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Alright, moving to the Exalted Outriders. This squad is tasked with anti-armour duties with their two meltaguns and combi-melta. I am not sure which patron god they serve, but an affinity to Nurgle makes sense on the tabletop for T6 fun. Made of two SM bikes and one CSM bike with bits and pieces from various kits added. Photos are not so great, I will have to work out a good way to take them. If anyone has got tips I would gladly receive them.

Nice start r3n3g8b0y.

Although I cannot see the images in the post immediately above this one, looks like the links broke.

Hmmm indeed they are hidden from the inquiring eye.. I thought using the coding with the link to the Dakka gallery would bring them up in the thread, no?

Thank you Dr Cheese. I seem to have managed to display the biker squad finally, but the lighting could use improvement. I may play around with (heresy) camera flash..
In the meantime I will update this thread with some more pictures of various contingents of the Planetary Guard, specifically those elements which have decided to cast off the Imperial rule.

First up is a Demolisher of the Heavy Support Regiment. On Vinrot there are only two of those heavy regiments (as mentioned earlier, the Ecclesiarchy makes up the main military force on the planet) and one of those has been nearly completely destroyed, whilst most of the other has gone rogue.

Next up are some old (dating back to 2009) models which I now run as Chaos Cultists, or Veterans in the Lost & The Damned army list from Forgeworld.
They are escapees from the large prison complexes on Vinrots northern continent and have now taken to looting of the anarchical hive cities and some even worship the dark god Khorne...

Alright! Here be some Khorne-adherents of the Legion. They used to be but raiders and corsairs, moved on from the slow grind of the Imperium. Most of this squad were wandering lone space wolves who have over the years trodden from the path of loyalism to the Imperium. Eventually betwixed by the promise of grander powers, they have found their way into the Word Bearers legion. As they have not been lengthily exposed to the warp, they are relatively unmutated...so far...

All the models were converted from second hand loyalist SM and bits I had laying around. All legs were cut and remodelled to be in dynamic running poses to reflect their bloodlust.. the Blood God does not allow slow advance when it comes to taking more SKULLS!!

The rest of the squad is to follow..

Alright, a little update... Here is an old model which I am adding to the Word Bearers Host. I am not sure what gaming universe he is from, but he turned into a CSM with little conversion work. Now I shall add some cloak or similar to him and paint his armour dark red. His brazier could also use a bit of a makeover..

He will be a Dark Apostle, leading the way in the dark, literally and proverbially. Any comments and ideas are always greatly appreciated!

Thank you, Evil Dr! I bought the model in a small hobby shop down here many years ago and cannot remember for the life of it what universe he came from... It's a metal model and did not come with the backpack, combi-bolter or brazier, they are all later additions... He looks baroque and slightly larger than standard CSM, so it fits well as a venerable, old zealot.

P.S. Boy, do I agree and feel with your display picture... very apt indeed!

Cool looking warband, and nice dig on that last apostle, gives the impression of a veteran whose body has been mechanized limb after limb, battle after battle.

Thank you kindly, fine people. As I mentioned, I was not so happy with his armour and brazier and painted both again in order to bring him to life and in line with the army a bit more. Here is his updated form (I still need to work out how to take well lit photos... harder than I assumed it is! ).

Also underway is someone no Word Bearers Host could do without: A Daemon Prince. Kept him quite out-of-the-box like, safe for the addition of more skulls (for the skull throne) and a bit of chain around his waist. One of the leg armour pads was also missing, so I cut a Chaos Warrior shield to fit his right leg. Those Chaos Warriors will hopefully feature here soon as well.

Comments & criticisms are welcome as always.

Cheers, good sires!

The traitor guard were once condemned to prison labour camps but once anarchy spread through Vinrot many of the labour complexes were destroyed and the inmates freed to join the rebels. They kept their prison suits!

The blending was actually done by the Prince's previous owner.. cannot claim that to my name! I will add washes and more higlights to make it more "mine", however.

So then! Here be some WIP shots of old mate Daemon Prince (without a name, because I have in mind to add him to the force once someone rolls a 65 or 66 on the Boon table and then he'll be him!)

He's got a base now with simple skulls added. Was going to make it super busy and complex but decided to keep it in line with the rest of the force (meaning mud and shrubbery).

Also working on some Rapier platforms, but since I have not many lascannons laying around I am going for a singular cannon per carrier and add plenty of cables to make it twin linked and AP1 somehow... not sure yet how to mount them onto anything yet; will probably go for a tripod setup like the IG heavy weapons teams, rather than tracks. If anyone's got any ideas of how to get them onto a base I am all ears!

Also up is an ancient (2009ish) WIP Obliterator, from the AOBR set and greenstuff. He will soon be continued on.

Thank you for scouting this thread and have a grand time!

Cheers Shrapnel, I am glad it is liked!

Here is a wee update, more WIP shots to come later today.

I present a lightly converted and sparsely based Daemon Prince, yet nameless, but if anyone's got a good title for him(it), I would gladly hear it!

Alright, here is a continuation of the WIP Obliterator and another one of his heathen heretek ilk. They may need more Dakka, however... . I will be playing them in a 1850 point game tonight and test how much dakka three of them really bring to the proverbial table.

Also decided I needed more fire power for the forces of the renegades, so I built some Rapier Laser Destroyer platforms from spare lascannons and sprue parts. Worked out alright I think!

As always, any comments and criticismic remarks are very welcome!

Ahoy! Been a while!

Cheers evildrcheese! Those rapier platforms and obliterators are now fully painted and based; pictures to follow shortly!
Now for a necessary evil part of The Great Plan.... the Daemon Prince and the renegade marines have left us on the great eBay journey... they have died too many times upon the fields of the Dreiachter system's planets and could not be re-animated by the dark apothecarians any more... in their place more underhive scum and rank-broken IG men have joined the growing ranks of the (so far) rather leaderless warband... as well as some of these angry guys:

Taken at night with a tabletop lamp and flash...yes, my photography attempts mirror the WIP state of the models.

These Khorne Berzerkers are a mingling of ex-World Eaters and members of the Crimson Brotherhood, seperated by their former warbands through the tumults of war and now flocking under the banner of the (extremely WIP, nigh nonexistant yet) Warlord who is going to ride that metal juggernaut. More to come soon!

Alrighty, a little update on the Obliterators finally finished and assembled in their murkensome trio:

Also a WIP shot of some Khorne-dedicated traitorous Astartes. Though they appear mostly Khorne Berzerker in origin they shall be run as normal CSM on the tabletop to allow for a meltagun per squad and since they will be in a World Eaters detachment they shall get pretty much a Khorne Berzerker profile minus one weapon skill.... still not sure on what to call the Khorne based warband... I have abandoned the Word Bearers idea of the force as after much deliberation and delving into the fluff I cannot support their blind zeal and backstabbing nature... rather, this warband will be a piratous, Khorne alligned one which shall be fighting with human allies, renegade guardsmen, gangers, cast out members of Hive city societies, prison inmates, that kinda group of fun gentlemen!

Still will need a insignia for the Khorne pirates... I think they shall be named The Crimson Brotherhood... but a logo is so far hidden from my idea-sphere... if anyone has an idea, please do let me know!

Happy wargaming as always!

Here is a WIP chaos spawn... it may have tentacles. I am not so sure about the tentacle colour, however... it may need more of a contrast to the rest of the body.. hmm.

Alright! The spawn was finished. Blue, slimy tentacles were the answer to contrast. This gibbery guy will serve as part of the Juggerlord's hunt pack until I get some chaotified LOTR Worgen built and painted up for him instead, afterward he shall represent all those who roll 21's and 22's on the Boon table....
