I really like the look of the striking scorpion models, although they are a bit expensive finecrap.

Why haven't I seen anyone bringing Striking scorpions? Stealth shrouded and a 3+ armour is tough, and infiltrate allows them to be put into a good position for them to mulch shooty infantry squads.

The exarchs are costly but also amazing in a challenge, 6 S6 AP2 attacks on the charge against marines is awesome.

Why aren't they taken? They seem like good fun and good at their role.

They aren't good enough at anything useful.

Sure, they aren't a dumpster fire like Banshees, but they still aren't good at anything.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Yes, "Dumpster fire," with battle focus, fleet, and no overwatch. Hey over there, Khorne bezerkers would like a word with you.

What on Terra are you on about? Battle Focus benefits shooting units, which Banshees are not, and fleet + no overwatch only benefit units that are alive to charge, which Banshees will not be since they either need to footslog or be in their non-Assault transport. In either case, they will be dead prior to being able to charge.
But indeed they are "slightly" better than Berserkers, I guess making them "landfill infernos"

On topic, Scorpions are actually fantastic....in Kill Team.

scorpions are great... they just are harder to use and more easily avoided than other things in the codex. they have a nice save, but are still only T3 so they fall like straw to bolter fire. 17 points buys me a scorpion or it buys me an elder bike, for the cost of a squad (4 points cheaper for the bikes) I can have 3 objective secured scatter laser bikes keeping out of LOS and throwing out 12 str 6 shots per turn.

I personally love Striking Scorpions. i have 10 of eac hof the three versions that arent finecrap and I never understood people who liked Banshees more from as far back as i can remember.

The aspect Host makes them extremely efficient at their job. i think putting them in Raiders or picking them up WITH Raiders is an excellent way to go by the way.

The volume of attacks is excellent and they are essentially much better than Assault Marines. You can't really argue with the utility. I think people recognize that there are some pretty big targets in 40K these days and some of the excellent assault units are actually quite powerless to stop them. That has affected their usage. CorpsethiefClaws, Ignores Cover Riptide Wings, Magnus, WraithKnights and buzzgobs Stompa just to name a few all intimidate one into considering other elites as more able to handle such threats. I mean it is a bit difficult to look at 5 WraithGuard with a Webway portal and ask "that or Scorpions?", know what i mean? The grenade nerf did NOT help matters.

I am a big fan though as evidenced by my collection of them and would recommend them as excellent toolsd against more conventional enemy targets. they make a bloody mess of a lot of more mundane units.

Scorpions are definitely a good unit, and much better than the other close combat units in the Eldar codex as Banshees, Storm Guardians and Wraithblades have no realistic delivery system. It's just that there are quite a few better options in the codex so outside of friendly games you wont see them getting used.

They rarely perform well for me in the sense of killing things - my opponents tend to focus down encroaching melee units first anyway. And with T3 they can be whittled down with pretty much anything like lasguns, bolters in spite of their good saves. Which means they aren't attracting the serious firepower from most opponents and are also of little value as a bullet sink. I tend to go for Shining Spears nowdays for an interesting melee unit as they perform most roles better and are a bit more flexible being jetbikes. Chuck in a telepathy Farseer to make them pretty tough.

Regarding the exarch - yes the claw is great and he can pump out a lot of attacks with it in a challenge - but he ends up costing 60 ish points I think so he kinda should be pretty decent.

100% this... love the models, I have 4 10 man squads with 6 exarchs between them, fun to paint, mine mix of finecrap and metal but mostly metal. and with DE allies they can be super fun though I rarely field DE allies due to small games that I play (750-1250 is my club norm) if I were playing at 1850 or higher though more often I would likely field a unit of them each game.

well with the new Formation they can all go into one single Formation, Scorpions, Raiders and all. Aeldari Formation is pretty cool. Helps assault units get a lot of mileage.

I apologize as I forgot to specify that I am bringing them as Ynari, if that makes them more or less useful (more I assume)
