I'm not saying they're cheesey filth, far from it - I think they have the most balanced codex bar none. I usually manage to scrape a win against them but they're always ultra low scoring matches, so low scoring yhey might as well be losses.
My average win against Necrons scores about the same score as my average loss.
Usually due to me not managing to shunt their Obj Sec warriors off objectives or eliminate their characters, I scrape by on Maelstrom, nabbing stuff like Linebreaker and denying the Necrons the same.

Anybody got tips on how to score higher against something so tough?

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

One dirty trick is consider something can Hit and Run, like White Scar Bikers, tie up their Warriors or Destroyers in assault, which stops them tomove onto objectives, HnR in the end of his assault phase last turn and turbo boost to your objectives. Just remember 1. Stay away from Paetorians, Lychguards and Scarabs large enough in numbers; and 2. Just make sure you haven't made the Lady Luck and Dice God unhappy , or you will roll 1s and 2s in your armor saves, followed by rolling 5 or 6 in your HnR check or the morale check IN YOUR OWN ASSAULT PHASE . These kind of dice rolling had costed me many games in the past.

Hit and Run has merit, maybe I should ally some Scars in with my Wolves...
