Have been away for a long time and dug out my Salamanders, no idea what to run anymore, I have the following models:

Converted Vulkhan He'Stan pic: http://imgur.com/XKLPqmp
Converted Captain / Chapter master / (Librarian?) with combi Flamer pic: http://imgur.com/yOLQp0c
Chaplin with jump pack
5 terminators with Thunder hammer / shield
5 terminators with 3 x combi bolter 1 x heavy flamer, veteran with power axe and shield
30 x marines with melta, flamer and missile launcher, veteran with power fist
5 x devastators with 4x missile launchers
5 x devastators with 4x grav amp - Currently on sprue as I bought these as bitz.
5 x assault marines - 1x plasma pistol, veteran with power axe + shield
Dreadnaught with assault cannon + powerfist w/storm bolter
Ironclad Dreadnaught - Still on sprue, picked this up with the centurions
Stormtalon with launcher / assault cannon
Sternguard x 10 with 1 x multi melta, veteran with power sword and 5x combi-melta
Drop pod x 3
Centurions x3 - Still on sprue, but will go for shooty ones (Possibly grav amps?)

Any advice? Is drop pod spam still worth it? I used to run the combi-melta squad in a pod and drop them on any threats for mastercrafted goodness. Should I invest in a crap tonne more melta guns / Multi meltas for the tac squads? Is there anything i should not use, and anything that I should buy asap?

Made this rough list:

Salamanders

Vulkan He’Stan - 190

Chaplain - 105
Jump pack

Tactical Squad 1 - 175
Marines x9 Veteran x1
Melta gun
Missile Launcher

Tactical Squad 2 - 155
Marines x9 Veteran x1
Flamer

Centurion Devastator Squad (3) - 240pts
1 Centurion Sergeant: Grav-cannon and grav-amp,Hurricane bolter
2 Centurion: Grav-cannon and grav-amp,Hurricane bolter

Sternguard Squad - 325
Sternguard x 9 Veteran x 1
Combi-Melta x 5
MultiMelta
Power-Sword
Dedicated Drop pod

Dreadnaught - 155
Assault cannon
Drop Pod
Extra Armour

Terminator squad - 190
5 terminators with 3 x combi bolter 1 x heavy flamer, veteran with power axe and Storm Shield

Assault squad - 125
Marines x 5
Veteran with Power axe / Storm shield
Jump pack x5
Plasma Pistol

StormTalon gunship - 130
Typhoon Missile launcher

Think that's right at around 1790points, which leaves me some points to spare for 1850 games, not sure what to spend this on, I could buy a cheap captain instead, and work in the missile launcher devastators, or another stormtalon / 3x whirlwind?

Take the heavy weapons off the tact squads and put them into a devastator squad...
Assault sergeants can't get storm shields... AMD they need flamers... They're salamanders...
I know you're limited on models but I never liked terminator's... Maybe run a lower point game until you acquire the models... That's how I started...
Maybe look at using iron hands or ultra marine tactics with the options you have...

Looks like you could make a Flameblade strike force, run a battle Demi Co with a 1st Company Force

Thanks for the advice, so would it be best to run devs with grav amps, or missile launchers? Im thinking of dropping the tac squads down to 5 man with meltas, then using the extra points from that and the termis to add in another flyer or my centurions in a drop pod.

Should I drop the chaplain and the assault squad and go for something else? I dont mind picking up more stuff if it's going to perform better.

This definitely feels more like Iron Hands or Ultras than Salamanders.

If you really want to run as Salies start building towards what as a Chapter they do best, flamers. TL flamers are no joke and will often catch opponents off-guard if they have never played against it. An assault squad with 2 flamers and a combi-flamer will usually wipe out a 5 man SM squad. Pods are great to deploy your flamers to get maximum kills. Also run a few meltas to deal with the pesky armour that you will still run into.

HW Centurions are definitely good, I run the Assault variety and they typically exact a lot of pain and blood from what ever they assault.

Demi company builds (Flame blade) or Galdius formations are quite good for Salamanders. Just remember flamers, some melta, don't forget your characters all get free MC weapons.

Should I dump the termis, assault squad and chaplain and then invest the points else where? Im thinking of picking up a barebones inquisitor in power armour for the sternguard squad, few extra cheap wounds, and then having a squad of 3 acolytes to sneak objectives, 12 points for a scoring unit is so funny!

Looking more into the squads, are 10 men even worth it? It's 5 extra models for the same price but without a veteran, I might roll with 5 man squads then use my devs and cents for the heavy weapons.

Are multi-melta land speeders worth it?

Okay, so been playing around with the list again and now have the following:

Salamanders with inquisition

Salamanders

Vulkan He’Stan - 190

Tactical Squad 1 - 80
Marines x4 Veteran x1
Melta gun

Tactical Squad 2 - 80
Marines x4 Veteran x1
Flamer

Tactical Squad 3 - 80
Marines x 4 Veteran x 1
Melta gun

Centurion Devastator Squad (3) - 275pts
1 Centurion Sergeant: Grav-cannon and grav-amp, Hurricane bolter
2 Centurion: Grav-cannon and grav-amp, Hurricane bolter
Drop pod

Sternguard Squad - 232
Sternguard x 5 Veteran x 1
Combi-Melta x 5
Power weapon
Dedicated Drop pod

Dreadnaught - 120
Assault cannon
Extra Armour

Ironclad Dreadnaught 190
hunter-killer missiles x 2
Hurricane bolter
Melta-gun
Drop Pod

StormTalon gunship - 130
Typhoon Missile launcher

Devastator squad - 130
Missile launcher x 4
veteran

Inquisition - 231
ORDO XENOS INQUISITOR - 77
Servo-Skull x 3
Power Armour
psychotroke grenades
Power Weapon
Combi-Melta

Followers - 79
Acolylte x 6
Boltgun x 3
Plasma gun x 3
Carapace armour x 3
Mystic 10

Chimera - 75
2 x heavy bolter
Psybolt ammunition
Hunter-killer missile
Dozer Blade

Really like the idea of having an inquisitor ally with a Chimera, I plan to use the servo-skulls to assist in my drop pod units with the Mystic in the squad allowing one of them to not scatter if I can get the Chimera into a decent position. The inquisitor is going to go with the sternguard for some cheap wound soaking and psychotroke grenades for when they assault out the pod (if they live that long..)

I think the missile devs and the ironclad in the pod will really help me with anti-tank, and adding a drop pod to my cents should allow them to drop next to a tank / MEQ unit and cause havoc.

This comes to 1738 points which leaves me 112. Im considering either picking up another tac squad with a missile launcher, a squad of scouts with a beacon or taking the Acolyte squad out of the Chimera to slog them on foot and then putting in a base inquisitor with 3 plasma cannon servitors and a couple of acolytes with plasma guns (5 plasma weapons firing out the ports with the +1 STR heavy bolters)

Any advise?
