Personally its going to be the fluff pertianing the IG and Imperial Beaurcarcy. There's so much, based off all my favorite historical empires (Soviet Union, British Empire, and the Roman Empire). The merge between some WWI, WWII, soviet tactics, roman beaurcracy. I love history, and this just takes all of my favorite parts(granted they aren't the prettiest time periods, but thats not the point). Plus I looekd atg a Ig image and was liek ok thats cool, then noticed in the background therewere milliosnof men, and I loved it 9would take me a few months to notice the warlord titan in the upper right hand corner). My least has to be the cost of the bloody models. Bloody feth 30-35 USD for a squad of guardsman. Its probably cheaper for the imperium to make a real squad of IG troops.

"Enemies of the Imperium, hear me. You have come here to die. The Immortal Emperor is with us and we are invincible. His soldiers will strike you down. His war machines will crush you under their treads. His mighty guns will bring the very sky crashing down upon you. You cannot win. The Emperor has given us His greatest weapon to wield. So make yourselves ready. We are the First Kronus Regiment, and today is our Victory Day. " - Governor-Militant Lukas Alexander, Commander 1st Kronus Regiment

Favourite: The fact that I can find a game of 40k in pretty much any GW on the planet, if I bring my stuff. Also that it's really easy to make every game entertaining: bring Orks or all the plasma you can carry.

Least Favourite: the One-dimensionality of the writing in recent editions. Gone is most of the humor - "congratulations, you've incinerated a guardsman", and all that. Too many factions stick so closely to one or a set of tropes and it makes the entire game universe appear low quality Made in China Grey. GW seem to be good at writing "characters", but aren't so good at writing "personalities". It's the depth that's missing to me, and I hope I see it come back from the ashes in later editions.

To any GW or FW writers out there, all I'm asking for is to bring back the sarcastic humor of 5th edition and prior, even a little. We understand that it's supposed to be a galaxy sized Stalingrad out there, but I want to read about those who sunbath during the apocalypse, punt grots like rugby balls, and laugh at the commissar who's plasma pistol overloaded during summary execution.

Least favourite: not the price, but the insane price discrepancy between Australia and most of the rest of the world. I would be perfectly happy paying English/USA prices.

Favourite: The rule "Counts as". It encourages kit bashing and conversions. It's really incredible what some people have come up with and my favorite models are ones I made or modified.

Least favourite: The actual rules. The game could be WAY better. It's baffling how bad some of it is.

After a bit of thinking I agree 100%.
I was going to go with the models as my favorite. However as cool as the models are, the lore is what really brings me back to the models every time. People don't go buy a replica collectors edition lord of the rings sword because its a cool sword. They get it because its a Lotr sword. A carnifex looks cool, but the lore makes it cool.

For what I dislike, I was going to say the people, however I considered that the bloated rules are what I dislike about the people. How the people try their damned hardest to exploit every little potential error. If the rules were less bloated, less exploit and "well it doesn't say I can't so I can". Which would create a more positive experience. I dislike going into the shop and wondering if my only option for a game will be 3 wraithknights, or some mix and match special rule death star.

favorite: the hobbycraft, being able to convert an army to be unique is among the best feeling I've experienced.

least: the rules, after playing games like marvel miniatures and other skirmish-level games I can say that 40k has a hard time holding my interest anymore. very bland. Sometimes a game is over after 1 players first shooting phase. doing alternating turns would help a lot

Absolute favorite: the hobby.

Other favorites: the setting/story/theme, grimdark, finding a good community of friendly gamers to enjoy this hobby with.

Least favorite: power creep gamers. Really hate the competitive nature the game has turned to. It used to be strictly about fun and getting together with friends to battle your toy soldiers against in an awesome setting, now it seems too competitive in the same vein as competitive Magic:the gathering is in. Basically "if you don't play the top tier army, you're not going to have a fun time..." which really irks me.

Add another favorite for the models, particularly marines and to an extent IG (mostly because they have the largest set of 3rd party bits so you can make them look exactly like you want them too).

Least favorite...probably how the wargear/upgrade system works for marines. I'm used to playing brikwars, where the rule for such was "buy anything for anyone, as long as you have the points". Getting used to 40k's system of "this army has that and this army has this, and never the twain shall meet, and also you can take them on this guy, this guy, and that guy, and only this many of them" is driving me crazy. It's really only bad with marines, where I see something really, really cool (Deathwatch infernus bolters and frag cannons, or the GKs getting stormbolters on everyone. I really wish I could use those on my tactical squads, that would rock) that I can't ever use the way I'd want to.

Favourite thing: The universe

Least favourite thing: Games Workshop, and how they make the game.

Highlights of 40k: versatility, depth, breadth, badass models, endless source of humour

Side note: The Eldar have not been fully explored as a cultural or psychological phenomenon, and I am quite absorbed with figuring out how such an alien species would work. Humans are obvious, Orks are hooligans with genetically-programmed behaviour, Necrons are The Singularity/Egyptians, and Tyranids are just a swarm of insects with caveats and gimmicks.

Eldar are a fundamentally different thing in subtle ways. I'm currently studying sociology and psychology, and the more I look into these, the more difficult it is to piece together exactly how Eldar culture works.

Best thing: It's the best grimdark of grimdark universes. Gothic/Tim Burton adpations of things are too 'try-hard' and pretencious, whereas 40K is effortlessly grim.

Worst thing: Bloated and dumbed-down rules.
