It would make for a better thread if the OP could elaborate a little bit.

thank you.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Commander Farsight. He has a sword. He's a badass. He's a crazy old man. Winning.

Nemesor Zahndrekh. He's a crazy old robot man who likes to invite enemy generals to tea and crumpets.

That sort of kindness is so refreshing in this setting.

I'm a big fan of Commander Farsight. Old beyond his time, grumpy as hell, willing to adapt to the universe he finds himself in (He knows better than to rely on bringing guns to a knife fight) but still an amazing commander and still loyal to the Tau Empire (even if that loyalty doesn't extend all the way to the Ethereals' version of the Greater Good).

Ciaphas Cain, maybe? Overall 40k has grabbed me more for its setting and faction lore than its individual characters.

A new one, but I am really lovin' Yvraine's character right now.

If not her than definitely Yriel. I am not the hugest fan of the false kin, but I really love Yriel's twilight aesthetic.

Lady Malys is legit too.

Toss up between Ghazzy and Creed. Both of them are geniuses when it comes to mustering and deploying billions of troops at a time unlike a mere 1000.

Lukas Strifeson.
The Strifeson has had a stellar military career, single-habdedly put down an Ork WAAAAAAARGH, put Word Bearers on ice and only has a single failed mission to his name.
Yet his own chapter dispises him.
He pisses in the ale of some of the most violent, unstable tempered characters in the 40k universe.
He traps imperial officials in breeding pens with horny(in looks, personality and in mating season) animals.
He sleeps around like a boss - it's actually unknown if he did that before or after becoming an Astartes, might have been both.
Had his secondary heart removed as a trophy before getting kicked out an air-lock.
Survived.
Had a Stasis bomb wired in its place so whoever kills Lukas becomes part of a monument to Lukas' epicness.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

Hard debate between Yriel and Asurmen..
I suppose I'll go with the Phoenix Lord because he is the most common HQ choice in the game. Lord wise I find him fascinating and much wiser than his peers tend to be. He's a fantastic fighter capable of killing greater daemons and he founded the path of the warrior. Nothing to dislike in my mind.

Old school Ollanius Pius. The man almost single-handedly made me love the Guard. Others would be Honsou, as an exceptionally entertaining villain, and Ciaphas Cain.

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary.

No Cypher yet?

I must say that Asdrubael Vect's my favourite though. Mostly for this quote on the Ynnari:

"What fool would plan to defeat their enemies by dying forever themselves?"

Also the black hole in a box thing. And the fact he's sweet to Lelith.

Vect. Romantic sadistic badass since c.M18.

Garro, runner-up points to Tarvitz. The little folks who stand up to their giant scary bosses when the poo hits the fan, and who are willing to take the hard way when presented with a dilemma. The folks who defy the Great Monolithic Legion Hive Mind to demonstrate that, while Space Marines may be giant and run on strange thought processes, they're still human and still capable of emotion, doubt, pride, and heroism by choice rather than by programming.

Which Emperor's Champion? It's a title (originally bestowed on Sigismund, traditionally carried by one Black Templar, but in practice carried by one per BT Crusade Fleet), Lexicanum lists twelve. Most of which seem to be dead. The most recent to figure into the fluff are Sigismund (first High Marshal of the Black Templars, survived the Heresy but possibly killed by Abaddon during the First Black Crusade) and Garrein (killed commanding a rearguard action during the Fall of Cadia campaign), either one could be a good choice.
