Good evening dakka, I wanted to debate the fact that each thread's RSS subscription link points to a file containing all the posts in this thread, since its creation.
While it can be interesting to feature all of them if one wants to archive an entire thread in his reader, it also generates a lot of useless traffic for users who just want to get the latest posts. For example, refreshing "Gitsplitta's Unified Painting Theory" blog will require 15M of RSS data to be downloaded and processed.
While I reckon even the ~300 dakkadakka urls in my rss would still represent peanuts compared to the daily traffic dakka must encounter because of all these high res images, It can sometimes be a burden for a low power laptop or smartphone, or when using cellular data.
For comparison, I think RSS feeds from reddit only return the 50 last posts, and the ones from youtube only the 15 last posts.
Nothing blocking of course, I can certainly use dakkadakka as is.
Just though interesting to bring up the question and would love to hear your thoughts.
