i once heard someone say the Custodes changed their armor color for mourning for the emperor and as a punishment for failing to defend him?

is this accurate fluff, i dont' remember this ever being mentioned

It was Rogue Trader fluff, and since their upcoming release and art from GS3 shows them in Gold, I dont think it applies anymore. Much Like how Ollanius was changed and the Ultramarine Chief Librarian is no longer a Half-Eldar.

I saw some recent artwork showing some of them in a partial black paint scheme.

That was one of the special "Sects" during the Heresy on a particular assignment, not a recolor due to mourning the Emperor and lamenting their failure.

I think it was just the red trim. The red you see on custodians in 30k is black in 40k

Would make sense, then again red, black and gold are the color of the Imperium.

Whoa whoa whoa, a half-eldar space marine? wtf? Looks, my fluff for my IG regiment makes them super liberal compared to the IoM at large, but; that is still crossing the line. The very idea is heretical. How did even survive long enough to walk? Much less join a SM chapter. GW has changed over the years.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

That was from when the game was very very... different. There were half-breeds because it was more of a classical "fantasy in-spess". Space Marines were also originally convicts forcibly augmented and used as shock troops.

At that time, the Ultramarine homeworld was a desert planet and the chapter had to scavenge most of their equipment because they didn't have good access to supplies. They were basically a destitute chapter of genetically altered bums.

There was also an Inquisitor named Obi-wan Sherlock Clouseau...

Twas a silly time.

Salient point: He wasn't an actual Space Marine, he was an astropath on secondment, (the Master of Sanctity at the time was also seconded from the Ministorum) since the Adeptus Astra Telepathica is an order of damned mutants anyway one presumes they weren't overly bothered by a little more genetic deviancy. A lot of confusion comes from the rank he held: The whole reason the Librarius was so named in the first place was because it was responsible for communications: Librarian receives a psychic signal and *writes it down* before passing it on to the recipient, these messages and their replies are archived ergo Library. It's rather common sense therefor that Astropaths on loan from the Adeptus Astra Telepathica are an integral part of this department.

Heresy!

But, that brings up an interesting question...how much of a stickler are the members of this forum for Edition Rectitude? Do you mind if someone shows up with black Custodes, or some old fluff? Do you draw the line at old rules and models and points values? Or, are you a "counts as" type of gamer?

Alternately, does anyone just draw a line and go "Rogue Trader is for me" or "4E and no further" with regard to all the different editions and options therein?

I would find it silly to force any fluff on anyone, current or not. Pick your headcannon and stick with it all you want. Just be prepared to deal with some degree of rejection, I suppose.

They stooped wearing amour, except for their helmets, and dressed black clothing in order to mourn the death of the emperor, not sure if its not cannon anymore, they still have their armours just chose not to wear them regulary out of respect, when Goge Vandire goffed up they put their armours back on and fought their way to his chambers.
