So I love the idea of skaven, they are the right amount of silly and they just seem fun. Im currently playing games at 1000 points and Im pretty new having played a handful of games so far. I'm a long time 40k player looking to escape the utter nonsense that has fallen over the game.

Of the last 3 games i've played I have been absolutely destroyed! Very one sided, and for one of the guys it was his first game. So far i've gone up against a pure pink horror tzeentch list and a Ghoul army with Aberrant King + Ghouls x 30, Horrors x6, Flayer x3, and a Varghulf. I understand how the Tzeentch got me because of the ranged attacks tearing me down and the guy was concentrating on my heroes, but I cannot figure out how to really work against the Flesh Eater Court. The units are pretty hard to kill and they constantly regain wounds and that cursed book really hurts my clanrats!

Im playing mostly with stuff out of the Spire of Dawn box + more clanrats. Average list is 3 x30 or 2x40 clanrats, warpfire/ratling/poisonwind teams in combination of 2 total, 2 rat ogres, Warlord, and Engineer. Im also running the crown as my atefact and im splitting it between the warlord as general and the engineer to spread the love. Thankfully im having some stormvermin and 1 warplighting cannon coming in the mail so that may help, plus i have a a start collecting Pestilens box I just received but will take a bit while I magnetize the bell/furnace and cannon/claw

What would you guys do? (and please don't say spam Stormfiends!)

PLaying only with Spire of Dawn might be difficult.

Stormvermins and Warplightning cannon are good choices. Then I would go with Screaming Bell rather than Plague Furnace. Bell can give nice boost for the units and his spell is excellent against slower units.

Plague monks are fun (extra attack when they charge and rerolls) but tricky - this is a great glass cannon without save, so good positioning and winning initiative is crucial.

Jezzails are good option - they shooting as hell.

And Doomwheel. Any Skaven should have Doomwheel. Random but fun and fluffy.

Skaven are fast and fragile. If enemy can't shoot - wait for him and shoot him as much as you can. He has shooting army? Run as fast as you can towards him.

And use generic general ability to avoid running your units from low Bravery.

Not easy race to play, but so much fun

You could add in Sayl the Faithless and fling a unit of clanrats into the enemy each turn. Should act as nice speed bumps while the rest of the army try and do their thing!

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Im feeling bravery, I lost 14 rats to battleshock last game against ghouls. Apparently I make the worst rolls and I even planned for having 2 inspirations that round until my warlord was stomped by a ghoul king ><.

I am definitely going to magentize the bell/furnace, it seems like a worthy challenge!

In old warscrolls on GW page there is a Chieftain with battlestandard.
He has nice skill: Sacred Banner of the Horned Rat: In your hero phase you can declare that this model will plant his battle standard and call upon the curse of the Horned Rat. If you do, you may not move this model until your next hero phase, but in the battleshock phase, Skaven units from your army that are within 13" do not need to take battleshock tests. In addition, you can re-roll hit rolls of 1 for all Skaven units in your army that are within 13" of a planted Banner of the Horned Rat.

I think, if you have swarm of clanrats you could set up your warlord as chieftain. He will be more useful with this skill.
