Back in the good ole' days of the Horus Heresy, every legion had their own flagship, Horus had the Vengeful Spirit, the Lion had the Invincible Reason, Alpharius and/or Omegon had the Alpha and/or the Beta etc.

But what about the Emperor? Back when He was still a part of the Great Crusade, did he have his own personal flagship like the Primarchs did or did he just mooch a ride off the Primarch he was crusading with Horus?

Nope, it was Dorn's. He actually offered it to E-daddy as a gift but He declined.

There's mention of the Emperor's immense golden warship being present at the Triumph of Ullanor

Just seems. There fighting desperate battle in jersey and things are bad.

The emperor has what sounds like a super battleship and its not deployed to bolster the defence or is it held in reserve in sol system?

There's also thr older imperial force one.
Gloriana. I mean that would be hell of a boost forbone of the legions defending terra surely.

It's weird we've heard so little about it in both 30k and 40k. You'd think the Emperor's personal flagship would be the most sacred of relics if it still existed in 40k and you'd think such a powerful ship would be doing at least [i]something/[i] during the heresy.

I believe the Phalanx is the largest ship in the imperium.
After that the Furious Abyss was said to be the largest ship every built by the IoM, and to have been larger than anything except the Phalanx.
The Gloriana class battle barges were otherwise the largest ships built by the IoM, and each one was unique. There were at least 20 of them built. Big E probably had his own with a little extra bling.

Short of the warp capable battle stations. Yes that's accurate. Not phalanx big but big ernough.
There's was a gloriana for each legion and I'm sure the Big E would not let his sons have them and himself not.

Only close the largest forge ships and ark mechanicus.
But there probbly only large battle ships not the super battleships listed above.

It could be that Phalanx is the largest in the Imperium today, and the Emperor's was bigger. This would be backed by the fact Dorn offered Phalanx to the Emperor who declined. After all, your son buying you a Mercedes is an amazing gesture, but when you're rocking up in a Veyron its just not that impressive.

It could also be that His ship predates the Imperium (DAoT) and so that is also true.

It could also be that He had a super mega battleship prior to finding the Primarchs and when he returned to Terra He had it retired or remade into a dozen other ships. Or it could've been destroyed at the Siege of Terra. If I were Horus, I'd make the Emperor's ship a priority target. Not only might He be on it, but the destruction of said ship would have a crippling effect on morale for the defenders, plus its combat capabilities make it a HVT.

It is also possible he didnt have any flagship, that he just traveled with whatever space marine legion he was commnading. Most of the times we see big E during the great crusade, he is surrounded by space marines, not an army of custodes. During most of the great crusade, some or most of the primarchs were not present, so big E could easily command a legion or three. The living emperor was not known for extreme grandier, and the Gloriana were plenty grand.

I don't think he woud have done that because the crew and Astartes on said ship would spend all the time he's on the ship kneeling or with their forehead on the floor.

The emperor walked among men in the year 30,000. At that point he was not a god and he discourged worship of himself as a god. There was no bowing. The word bearers created Monarcia to venerate the emperor and they were punished for it.

I'll point to the same moment as my evidence. When he appeared before the XVII and Lorgar, all, including Lorgar, felt compelled to kneel before the Emperor. Not just out of their beliefs but an actual compulsion. He was venerated as a god because he feels like a god, he made them feel as if they were in the presence of a god with his power.

Also well.

If the big E was with a multi legion group. Thr prestige said one he chose gets is higher, and they may seem to be seen as a command legion above others.

Bad for unity, adds unessary tension.

His own ship negates that, gives him independence of legion fleet, upmost trust of a crew with sole not mixed loyalty.
Guaranteed systems etc, and also better comms security if he had information and reports he might not hosts to know.

For various reasons personal flagship works.

Plus he can go wherever without having to think of legions ships. He has own.

You raise a good point. Mixed loyalty between the Emperor and the Primarchs was what led to the Heresy, and more specifically, the purging of loyalist elements on Isstvaan III

On the other hand, everyone knows Horus was the favourite, no one even attempted to deny or hide the fact, it was common knowledge. Plus, the Emperor's Children were granted the sole honour of wearing His symbol, the Aquila, that no other Legion was permitted. Lorgar was widely known to resemble the Emperor the most. Dorn was given the honour of building his fortress and being his Praetorian. Favouritism wasn't something the Emperor really concerned himself with, I feel.
