If I collect Adeptus Custodes and paint all the red stuff black instead, is that logical for the current setting?

I assume the Adeptus Custodes look exactly the same today, as they did 10,000 years ago, is that correct as well?
Also, does anyone know if any information has been giving regarding their Grav Vehicles, are they all mothballed now or still in use? The Adeptus Custodes boxed set has a metal box and a land-raider, I really don't know what GW is trying to do, is that box set for both time periods or what?

Thanks.

box set comes with rules for 40k, so its a 40k set and probably indicates the direction of fluff in 8th edition.

I strongly suspect that is the Custodians sell well some of thier resin goodies will make thier way into plastic. I still suspect Custodian terminators will be plastic.

As for coloration changing head crest, fabric and jewel colors between units is a good way to differentiate.

The notes accompanying the Custodes concept art in Horus Heresy: Collected Visions state that after the death of the Emperor, the Custodes replaced their red with black (and abandoned their armour).

Obviously they reverted to red at some point (and put their armour back on - possibly when a giant Ork attack moon showed up at Terra?).

Horus Heresy VII: Inferno features a variant of the Custodes standard colour scheme in the Warders of the Vaults of Rython (black armour), so clearly variant colour schemes weren't unheard of.

You could say that your Custodes still maintain their black mourning plumes or something.

Sorry I don't understand you, you said obviously, so has there been recent material that actually shows them in armour with the red colours post-heresy? If that's the case.. well that's enough justification for wearing red again.
The Ork attack moon, that was the war of the beast right?

Hmmm, so I guess Custodes really are a 30k/40k force for collectors to use in whatever setting.

If you know about the vehicles please let me know.

Collected Visions is outdated. There's no evidence in any recent lore that they got rid of their armor, and plenty of evidence that they didn't in The Bears Arises and Rise of the Primarch.

Yes. It's also logical if you paint it silver, or blue, or pink, or whatever. They're Adeptus Custodes. They can wear whatever color they want.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

... All of the models and artwork around the current Custodes release(s) and Rise of the Primarch depict them with red plumes/cloaks etc. in M42 ...

Note that the 3rd ed. Rulebook depicted Custodes in armour, so it seems unlikely that the note in Collected Visions was supposed to be read with an additional 'and they never ever put it back on. Ever.' (Also note that both of these come from John Blanche, so he was presumably aware of what he was doing!)

In all instances of written fiction after the Heresy, starting from TBA, Custodes have never been seen without their armor, even while patrolling Palace/guarding the Throne in TBA. I'm sure they took off their armor once in a while for servicing but that would be it, not for any perceived mourning. Simple case of what might have been the case not being so any more - retcon land, as it is.

whether fluff wise they would change their colors or not I am certainly painting mine a blue-green transition with gold and rose gold being present but not majority just like my normal marines but maybe 20-30% more bling to distinguish them. I love the models btu the all gold is a bit mush imo

But obviously they're going to wear Gold. Gold is the best color

If the Orks and the Salamanders wore gold they'd probably win more. The Ultramarines just have gold trim and they win all the time

Thanks everyone.

So anyone can paint up custodes in their official colours as that matches both 30k and 40k periods. The no armour morning period was written out, if they did wear black for whatever period of time, they were still seen wearing red when deployed.

I did some reading and it seems their current vehicle is just the landraider.

Well that covers it. Thank you again everyone.

Horus heresy vii shows an alternate black colours scheme for both custodians and SoS. It looks better than the gold imo

Its important to notw that their vehicle is the land raider only until the range becomes popular (as if it already isnt) and GW see $$$ in selling us grav vehicles.

I for one welcome our new (old) Custodian grav tank using overlords.

Well the lack of Grav makes sense with the technology being lost during the Horus Heresy

(just forget that Landspeeders are a thing)

Indeed gold is the color of winning! Silver is merely second place and all the others don't matter.

The Warders of the Vaults of Rython were a special sub-force of the Custodian Guard during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. Notable for their black-colored armour, the Warders were a sequestered and shadowy sub-division of the Custodes which were normally deployed deep below the Imperial Palace on Terra, likely near the Golden Throne.

Go figure, the eight foot tall dude in shiny red, black and bronze is the sneaky type.
Colour scheme like that I'd expect him to be the "Black Knight" type - Swaggers into the arena, glares about and stands over people, then proceeds to get his butt handed to him by some nobody hero.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

It's exceptionally easy to justify any sub-sect of the Custodes...do what you want.

Which is what makes them so cool in regards to making your army stand out.

Want Custodes painted purple? Sure thing! That was a sect known for protecting the High Lords of Terra.

Well, it makes them basically the same as every other faction in that regard...
