Subject: MISSION: THE RELIC - Who truly owns the relic?

Had the following situation arise in yesterday's game.
Khorne Daemonkin vs Gladius Marines
My daemonkin were smashing marines left and right, but while we indulged in blood for the blood god the loyalist dogs of the emperor moved in contact with The Relic late turn 4 with a unit of space marine bikes. However I had a unit of Objective Secured cultists hiding within 3" of the objective behind a wall (to avoid coming out in the open and being shot like my previous unit that got within 3" of it and was quickly dispatched off the battlefield).
So now we have a situation where the Marine player has 'seized' the relic and is allowed to move with it by coming in base to base contact with it with his bikers. Yet I claim that even though he controls the relic for moving purposes, I am the one actually claiming it because I am within 3" and have objective secured on cultists.
The game was winding down to the last turns and this became a point of contention (first time for us) we looked up the mission rules and it seems to support my understanding of it, but we aren't 100% sure on this. What say the rest of you? Who truly gets the VP for claiming the Relic in such a situation?
Alternatively if my unit did not have objective secured but was still within 3" of the relic, does it count as being contested?

I think relic rules tell you to reach BtB before claim ownership, and then it's granted to specific models within that unit.
IMHO i think obj secured have no relevance with the handling the relic ones

thats was 6ed. In 7ed it's just an objective that also can be picked up and moved by a unit

I think its pretty clear. You actually have the Relic, but he can move the relic around. So he needs to move it away from your Ob-Sec troops before he can actually truly control it.
I agree its funky. I doubt that mission was truly thought through how it worked with ObSec.

From 'Controlling Obective Markers':
"You control an Objective Marker if there is at least one model from one of your scoring units (see below), and no models from enemy scoring units, within 3" of it."
From The Relic mission's Primary Objective:
"At the end of the game, the Objective Marker is worth 3 Victory Points to the player that controls it."
Nothing in 'Seizing the Relic' suggests having seized it means you necessarily control it, so in this case an Objective Secured unit being within 3" would have the seizing model giving up control of the relic.

Thanks for the input. I see we weren't the only ones confused by the way the relic works.
