I would like to give AoS a chance, and I like the old nurglyfied forrest / corrupted tree spirits feel.
Is this still a thing in the AoS fluff, and would it be possible to field other than just fielding sylvaneth + nurgle + beastmen and ignoring the whole order vs chaos fction stuff?

If you want to play narrative play and open play you can, it's perfectly okay. Now, if you want to do matched play you're forced to stick to one alliance (unless you agree with your opponent by rennouncing to alleigance bonuses). A work-around could be using tree-revenants' dreadwood wargrove, and model the units as nurgle-ified while keeping with the idea of fell spirits. It could be an idea: use ironbark wargroves if you want to use "nurgle" (dwarfs modelled after nurgle units) or beastmen. Just an idea. Narrative players won't give you a trouble, matched ones will require a bit of converting and extra work.

Don't worry on how i convert it for they will be converted ; ) Thats thw whole reason why I would perhaps start this project, to build some nice corrupted trees.
I Just don't know anything at all about the AoS fluff, is this corrupted tree spirits thing still a thing in AoS?

Kind of. Spite revenants are spirits that have been driven insane by their bitter hatred and there's some especulation that this insanity, that twists them beyond believe and makes them almost entirely different to their other kin, may be caused by the chaos gods or at least heavily influenced by (but almost assuredly involved).

You could do it in aesthetic. Make all the trees pussfilled and nurglefied. Use Blightkings with Sylvaneth bits, or Kurnoths with Nurlge additions.

As for rules, not really. the armies are almost opposites in the fluff, and the rules sort of reflect that. Aside from where Ghyran was almost completely rotted and spirits/treekin reflecting this. I could definitely see in the fluff some Elder treekin becoming stand-ins for Greater deamons of Nurgle.
There's always coming up with your own 'Mini-battletome' of course.

It's fully within the rules for me to look up your Facebook page, find out your dear Mother Gladys is single, take her on a lovely date, and tell you all the details of our hot, sweaty, animal sex during your psychic phase.
I mean, fifty bucks is on the line.
There's no rule that says I can't.
Hive Fleet Hercual - 6760pts
Hazaak Dynasty - 3400 pts
Seraphon - 4600pts

I would recommend running a full Sylvaneth army, as Nurgle-corrupted Sylvaneth do exist in the fluff (mentioned in one of the early campaign books). The Dreadwood Wargrove is an obvious choice but Kragan's idea of using Ironwood is a good one; you could convert tree revenants using Plaguebearer parts to get a very good result.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.
