With Gathering Storm RoP giving us Grandmaster Voldus, I was wondering if anyone else wants a new Grandmaster model in plastic. Voldus is OK for conversions, but how he's assembled really limits your options. I was envisioning something similar to the SM or DW comannder kit. Multi-part plastic with multiple options for melee, ranged weapons, and other unique accessories like the ever-present daemon heads.

I'm gonna say no.

Also I'm gonna say this probably should have been in 40k General Discussion.

Alas the plastic SM commander is product of an older age when GW believed in generic character models. Now they aren't releasing as generic character models so odds of getting generic grand master kit is preeeeetty damn slim.

The issue with GK is that all of their HQs can be built from either the GKT kit or the PAGK kit, except for the Techmarine no one uses. Draigo just needs a bitz shield, and you can even make him from a GKT kit. Voldus can be made from the GKT kit. GKs are effectively three model kits when you add in the NDK, as every useful unit wears one of three suits of armor and has the exact same weapons and upgrade options, you can even use an NDK tilt shield for Draigo.

While I love not having to spend dime on GK models since 5e, GW pretty much F'd themselves with GK by not supporting the line with unique kits beyond the core three.

As Jeff above me says, GK are a 3 kit army, as all of their HQs wear TDA bar 2 wear the exact same armour and wield the exact same weapons as the general footsoldiers. This perfectly fits the fluff as each GK has the highest quality gear, and its the Knight inside that makes the difference, but in terms of modelling, a single box of GKT makes all the necessary HQs: A Libby, a Captain, a GM, Dragio with a SS added, and Stern.

The only remaining HQs are the Brotherhood Champion (best made from bits or a conversion, I personally used The Emperor's Champion) and Techmarines who have a model already though in Finecast.

Its great to have unique single-pose hero, but when every model is supposed to look as good as a hero its just irritating.

A really great idea would be for GW to make a "Paladins" box which comes with 3 super-ornate and decorative TDA models, which can either make 3 Paladins or HQ models, along with Paladin style helmets, extra heavy weapons, a different banner representing the Relic banner only Paladins can take, a few add-on bits to make them into a Librarian or GM, and sell it at a Premium because its an HQ trio box.

GKs need some functional rules more than anything. The regular Terminator kit can make a good HQ with lots of customization options instead of being limited to a monopose character kit that cost over half of what a box of 5 TEQ models cost.
