Fluff question: do Nyss get fluff in their belly buttons? Ah...no...Dame Autocorrect.

Are Nyss a different offshoot to the elves of Ios? I am curious as to whether or not we might see a non-blighted Warcaster in Retribution of Scyrah someday.

We have seen spoilers of Nyss units coming to Retribution later in the year.

I know that the Nyss in Legion have an Anthac in order to become warlocks....do Nyss have the talent to be Warcaster?

Nyss are an offshoot of regular elves. In the fluff a few thousand years ago, after the Elven gods had left ios but before the rivening, the followers of the eleven god of winter - Nyssor - left their city of darsael following the words of a prophet called aeric - his visions from his god promised them a new life in a new place that was the epitome of endless winter. Once there as the generations passed and presumably the blessings of their god strengthened, the Nyss became something a bit different to regular elves.

While nyss have 'the gift' and can use magic, So far no nyss has been shown to have the warcaster ability. Whether that is due to the feral nature of their existence up to now is a point up for discussion but also of note is there have been no nyss warlocks either, without outside (i.e. Everblight) interference.

Minor edits due to autocorrect.

Apologies.

And no worries - generally speaking, the eleven lore that pp have written is epic, and extremely interesting and quite thoughtful.

Look into the rpg material (iron kingdoms unbound) as well as the mk2 forces of war: retribution book if you are any way at all interestedly. There are some fantastic wee tidbits.

Did you know, for example, during the warlord era, there was a Nyss/human alliance that brought down a dragon?
Did you know, for example, that eleven warjacks (ok, myrmidon) technology was based on human technology? (Don't tell the retribu...gah!)
Did you know, for example, that there is more to the missing elven gods than most would wish known? (But don't look at thamar! She's not suspicious at all!).

Their lore really is a hidden gem.

I think too many people give gw a free pass on 'outstandingly lore' and simply assume it's impossible for anyone else do provide decent lore for their games. Privateer press have been writing for fifteen years and their ip has a huge amount of grit, depth and character.

There is a lot there, and a lot worth getting excited about, whether it's the setting, the history of the setting, or the evolving story.

Even the writing has evolved. For the better. One of the earliest pieces had Haley killing deneghra by chopping her in half with her spear, using her legs (also how Denny levelled up to denny2 if you are interested...) compare that to SeaCat' recent 'blood of kings' novel and you will see How both the story has evolved, as has the skill of the writers.

Oh, and by the way:

Privateer press novels. Go and enjoy!

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

Its likely that Nyss could potentially be Warcasters, given they are a subspecies of Iosan, however their tiny population size and very different way of life makes that unlikely.

There are only around 20,000 or so Nyss in total. The vast majority of whom are enthralled to Everblight. Warcasters are very rare. 1 in a million, quite literally. Even if Nyss have the possibility of being warcasters, the chances are basically non-existent in a practical sense. Their population is simply too small, and their society has only recently been forced to exist alongside humans, and jacks as a result. Its possible that as the years go by, assuming the Nyss don't go extinct, that they will discover warcaster potential. But at this moment in the fluff, it doesn't currently exist.

The Nyss species and culture is literally on the brink of extinction. Even if something is technically possible, reality will likely not have it happen simply because the population is so small.
