So I was reading up on this guy and he seams like he could cause some havoc if used correctly. The way I understand his rules are, set him up within the enemies army and just keep him more then 3" away from enemy heroes so he isn't "revealed". Then when you decide to "reveal' him he acts as a normal unit and the enemy can target, etc. Then if wanted to can use the targets weapon and profile instead of his staff per combat round.

Could this be an answer to a late arriving Celestant Prime with built up attacks on his hammer? Just let the Changeling linger till Prime arrives then kite him until my combat phase, charge the Prime then use his own hammer with built up attacks against him? Basically he'd only be there for that purpose but obviously can buff for all the other rounds he doesn't fight in the meantime.

I tried searching the forums but couldn't find anything along these lines. Thanks in advance for any info or ideas how to deal with a late arriving Prime as Chaos. I've also thought of summoning in a Bloodthirster in late in game but with casting value of 10 that might not be as reliable.

You haven't found much on the changeling because there is not an obvious use for him in a competitive environment.

He's pretty lackluster. I'd love to see how someone uses him successfully though.

The changeling gets used a lot on the UK scene because it is so good in 3 places of power. It can take an objective and is untargetable until an enemy hero gets within 3".

In terms of making a unit smack itself in the face, Choas players already have access to Wrathmongers which do the job better.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

If you rolled well on Destiny Dice and there's a powerful hero on the board, he's pretty good.

He should be the last one to deploy and if you go first, you can attempt to blast someone with a Tzeentch spell, charge it, then use Destiny dice to cause as much damage as possible.

Works well against characters like Alarielle or Durthu. And using Destiny Dice to cast Hand of Dust on Nagash is hilarious if it works.

I'm not sure about him myself, with some very specific exceptions, I'd say he generally isn't worth the points. However, I did think about using him as part of the Changehost. If he's within 27 in of the LoC, he could be swapped with someone much more...suited for the task of teleporting into your opponents backline in just the right spot. And you could do this first or second turn depending on deployment. Pretty niche, but can be useful if you plant him wisely.

Yeah the few bits and article segments about him mostly mention more of a novelty unit then anything and not really practical or useful in serious game play. That being said, it's just a group of friends in my current meta so I may try it sometime just for the hell of it.

Thanks for the heads up on the Wrathmongers Bottle, I have kind of overlooked then in the past but might have to try a unit of them as well and see if I can use them on that late round Prime appearance my buddy is dying to try. He tried last game but waited too long and my minions got most of his army down before he showed up. Me targeting the Prime with Be'Lakor's "The Dark Master" and popping it on him as soon as he arrived didn't help him either. ... but yes, would be fun to show up and DPS him down too when he appears. Especially with his own imbued weapon!!

So, those Wrathmingers?? Worked like a charm!! Was able to lure his Celestant Prime into range with a pack of dogs. Got the charge on him. He nuked 2 Mongers... then I nuked him! The Prime took 5 hits at -3 rend , 3 dmg each. Bye bye! The look on my friends face was priceless!!

Really was hilarious. He then immediately moved everything away from the remaining Wrathmongers (his Celestant on dracoth was within 4"). Unfortunately he now knows about that ability and then shot the rest with Judicators. Which he said he'll prob do if I filed them again. I said it won't matter when I field two units of them and a Changeling as well. hahaha!

To my Tzeentch daemons the Changeling is invaluable.
He's my best way to deal with artillery/shooters and big powerful models and adds to the flexibility my army relies on.
Archaon moving 6" a turn is much more managable and there is the deterrent of using the enemy's attack.

Artillery/objective you can't get to? Have the Changeling deal with it. Summon a herald (those can put out some damage) and use it's tome to bring in something bigger to have a decent little force in your opponet's back line.
