I've just got a stormtalon/stormhawk kit with the intention of using a stormtalon gunship in a few casual games friendly tournaments but i can't bring myself to bring that flying anvil as an actual aircraft.

Looking at the kit i'm sure i can make a mutant of the two flyers that's recognisable as a stormtalon but could possibly fly.

As long as i don't take liberties with weapon locations and the like would people be cool with not using the exact stormtalon-gunship?

Isn't the Stormhawk th predecessor to the Thunderhawk and quite big?
I'm not sure how you would combine the two but that isn't my call.

General rule for proxies (milage varies)
If it's roughly the correct size/dimensions, you're not taking liberties with weapon placements and arcs, and it's clear what the weapons are no reasonable person should take issue.
Aways notify your opponent however. ''Hey this thing's a Stormtalon. Weapons as is with X,Y and Z...'' or similar.
Rule of cool has a big part in it as well. If it looks like you've just glued the guns on the front to get a better arc or an extra inch or two people will be a lot less happy than if it's a conversion that looks badarse.

Kiro, you're thinking of the Stormbird. The Stormhawk is the alternate build of the Stormtalon kit:

They're built off the same hull, so I can't see a problem in using it as a 'talon.

It looks more like it's designed for controlled falling than flying... or a submarine craft.

huh... I always thought that was a Forge World model. Cool I guess.
But good Emperor it's ugly.
If ever I want a stormhawk/talon I've always thought I'd just use the Dark Angels one. That actually looks sexy.

The best Stormtalon conversions/proxies I've seen have extended the rear hull and added blades to turn it into a helicopter. It looks rather less flying-brick-like that way.

You could try nabbing Dark Talon/Nephilim parts to give it actual wings, I suppose, but you might run into confusion wherein people think it's an actual Dark Talon/Nephilim.

Aye, storm talons are ridiculous, but make nice helicopters. I even saw one where they did huge holes in the wings and added a rotor to each side sort of like one of the little agents of shield marvel designs. but other than the IG most of the Imperium of man flyers do not look like they could possibly fly.

The only ones that do that I can think of are stormbirds and xiphons.

So, did anybody also look at the PDF that can be downloaded?

With stats like accelleration, braking, toughness, structure?
Found here: https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/PDF/StormcloudAttack/40k-rules-stormhawk-interceptor-en.pdf

Isn't Stormcloud Attack a separate 'minigame' if you will, similar to Betrayal at Calth or Burning of Prospero sets.

Don't know. Never saw these before.
Perhaps somebody who does know Stormcloud Attack will be able to verify?

I have a storm talon, and I agree that it is ugly as sin. To make mine look better I just gave it a massive weight loss on the front. The side weapons pods were replaced by assault cannons off the Land Speeder and the chin-turret thing replaced by a Sentinel Missile launcher. It really streamlines the whole thing and makes it look a lot more likely to fly.
